Does anyone still use Njal Stormcaller?

When the current dex came out i bought a whole bunch of stuff without really reading the dex very thorughly. One of those things was Njal Stormcaller (TDA). I used him in a couple of games till i got bored with him and annoyed by his points cost coupled with his fragility. When i pay 270 points for a model i at least expect 3 wounds. So my question is does anyone still effectivley use this guy because i really like the model and i'm trying to motivate myself to actualy paint him.

P.S. I have a 15 terminator wolfwing list aswell as the standard grey hunters in rhinos one, which would he suit best?

I use him in 2250+ points games.

He has great synergy with a Logan's Heroes army I've found. He's not a beast in HTH due to only 2 wounds and no EW, but as a supporting character he is amazing.

Think of him as a watch tower who can smite anything on the board (Lightning), protect an objective (Storm Caller/Tempest's Wrath/Hurricane) and so on.

The lord of tempests effects can be handy although I've never had them do anythign amazing for me, but they keep the opponent wary...

As support he is quite good, but I mostly use him if I have the extra points to spend. I like to put him a long fang squad to protect an objective or put in a small wolf guard squad armed with combi melt a or plasma. But he's not a character that is always usefull.

I used him twice so far and both time I forgot about his special ability because I went second and there was no point in the first turn.

Once I drop podded him with some long range terminators. I dropped him too close to the enemy with not enough support, but he fought valiantly and single-handedly outfought about 6 harlequins that charged him, but then died a horrible death.

The second time I footslogged him with the some short range terminators and he did actually quite well. I played Blood Angels and he had to take some fire and was assaulted by some assault marines and a unit of terminators. It left him with only the heavy flamer terminator, but as I said, they did quite well.

I am aware I should have used the termies the other way around, but in the firs game Ragnar dropped with my short range termies to wreath some havoc in the enemies lines.

Since I don't really play competitively, I like to change my list a lot. So I go through themes over several weeks, that I slightly change, until I get bored and then I use another theme. Njal will certainly be used again next year in the same way as above, but also maybe in PA with some GH in a Rhino.

I run him without the terminator armor in a unit of Grey Hunters in rhino and love him!

I got in a long extended game at the end where he dished out 17 wounds over 3 turns with the Storm effect. He has slaughtered his way through Guard, Eldar of both flavors, and Orks. I love him for what he can do!

I have been playing a lot of 2000point games lately. In most of these games he has been the only HQ I have taken.

In my 2K list with only him leading I use:

Njal Stormcaller: Runic Terminator Armour

Wolf Guard: Power Weapon, Storm Shield, Terminator Armour

It works very well and you can drop him in the first wave. It's actually very versatile and I still prefer drop pods over rhinos.

The terminator unit usually protects him just out of reach while the 3 armed to the teeth grey hunter packs with wolf guard are right

in the opponent's face. The army is actually extremely well at adapting to different enemy deployments and I find Njal is my best

way to use rune priest abilities. The 2 powers plus lord of tempests AND the 3+ dispell work wonders. Also, the 4+ invul has actually

saved me more than a few times from perils wounds.

Unless I'm taking landraider(s) I always prefer to get in my enemies face with firepower and get him to come out and charge me

once I've picked at him enough.

I just find Njal to work very well for me. Even when he doesn't do anything very well in a game, I find the presence of him annoys my opponents

for the potential damage he can cause. Even with either deploying him right away or drop podding turn one, I've only lost him in 1 game.

I'm not kidding. Even when your opponent wants to take him out first, put things in the way or in position to counter attack. He's 245 to 270pts for

a model that is very weak against wounds.... keep him alive.
