I've finally decided to paint my Caestus in Green. Easier, better look in a dark colour and more logical : it is unlikely that such vehicle is specifically affiliated to a company

Awesome force you have here borther. Simple as it is, your advice on painting the robes higlights AFTER the armour is priceless. Its just one of those obvious things you pass by... Looking foward to see the Caestus finished, Im planning on scratching one for myself and will go with a green/bone scheme, mostly green.

thanks for the input guys

I couldn't resist adding more TH/SS to my force and also CML...

I've continued converting the SH marines into DW ones...

Here's the last one...

Are you doing the entire Ceastus green?

I liked the scheme you showed earlier, so I hope I misunderstood you.

Also I feel suchs a semi unique transport could be devoted to the inner circle, kind of like the company mercedes for the higherups..

Made sense to me at least.

Also I demand MORE WIP pictures, and army pictures of the whole billion point army!!

Actually I tend tothink that such vehicles are under the chapter's general command rather than a specific company and then are dispatched to the units that need it... so they should bear the chapter colour and not a specific company colour..

So yes it will be entire green with little touches of bone to break the "all-green" aspect

Well I have one at least...

Let me explain the story of this guy.

I was finishing my MkIIb LR and wanted to re-count the army list due to some changes (replacement of 3 tornados by the caestus, replacement of 3 AC by CML etc...). That's the moment I chose to notice a typo in the RAS value making them 100pts more expensive than they should and since I removed 3 Tornado it leavesa gap of 700pts... I you add the economy I've made by replacing the tornados (50pts) and the ACs (30pts), it leaves me with a 9500pts list rather than 10000.

Ok I have to find 500pts then

Luckily with all the Hammers/CML I have added, some already painted models were supposed to finally stay in the box... By reorganizing my DW squads I could reform a 5th squad but I missed only one termi with Chainfist... That's why I've made this one.

That's still 250pts done...

For the further (and last) 250pts I think I'll go with a prometheus LR (with all the HB goodness). I already have the resin kit so it will be done quite fast, particulary since I've discovered this beautiful Army painter Angels Green... The result is amazing, I'll post a comparison pic soon...

Anyway I need to go back to work, things seem to have evolved in a way that force me to accelerate my painting rythm ! :P

Well I'll post the pic of the entire army once done, not before... so be patient.

I think I've passed the 8000pts step since I now just have 8 LoD marines, 10 devastator marines, 1 crusader, 1 caestus, 6 termis and 3 or 4 vets... Of course you'll have to add the Prometheus LR now...

Just a pic to compare the look of Army Painter's Angels Green

Left : Airbrushed DA green

Right : Angels Green from Army painter

Similar isn't it? I now know how to spare more times with my company marines ;)

I've finished the MkIIb, not totally satisfied of the result but I think it's enough for now, I still can add some modifications later (note that the SB turret is still in-the-way-to-be-painted but is not necessary for the GD

For the depth of the bone : I've actually tried to use inks on terlis and it indeed give a nmore brown effect that adds depth to the colour... Problem is : I don't manage to handle ink properly when in comes to paint rapidly a group of models. And it's'even worse with vehicles and large flat zones...

So I've given up inks or paint wash

i do it almost in a production line technique purely because inks take so long to dry

i do my deathwing as follows:

spray black

base coat bubonic brown

flesh wash all over

redo bubonic brown leaving recesses

bleached bone

bleached bone/white highlights

i always leave about 1mm line between colours

I agree - the IIb looks fantastic! If you do decide to go back and add shading - try the GW washes and essentially 'brown line' the recesses. Should add definition between panels. Then simply highlight a few areas with white/bleached bone to give a little more contrast and it's done! Looks good as is though and certainly good enough for your game.

Yup that's actually what I plan to do for my 2 bone Land Raiders.

So I've worked on my 4th LR and today I do the green highlights + work on the tech and the lights to finish it.

However I've taken a pic so that you can see it BEFORE the highlights :

Green is definitly easier to work ;)

Lookin good avoghai! the crusader looks great pre-highlighting and the bone IIB looks great too, if you're worried about it being too clean or too beige maybe just add some coloured (red i suppose) markings or panels to break it up? I also find a good few rounds of drybrushing bestial brown and a final brush of bleached bone makes for some quick and effective muddy track weathering...

keep em coming!

Very nice work Avoghai, yo are turning out land raiders faster than I could turn out terminatot marines. The paint wok is very precise. It looks really great.

SG

Well a green LR is always easier to do than a squad of 5 bone termis... Particulary with this Army painter's fantastic Angels green.

Just a quick update to sho the LR once finished + 2 termis I've finished in a row

Tonight I work on the metals and the chapter insigns on the caestus, I'll try to post a WIP tomorrow

Hi guys, as promised, a first WIP pic of the Caestus.

The central part is mostly done : need to make the 2nd degree of hilights + add some details like squadron marking to break the all-green aspect.

This evening I'll do the wings.. hopefully :)

Another quick WIP of the Caestus. It's mostly done now. It misses the scorpion green touch and some details here and there. I've made A bone stripe as I planned and I'm quite satisfied of the final look. I'll surely paint the Missile Launchers in metal + badab black wash.

Some excellent work here, really crisp and clean finishes. The Army Painter sprays seem to give a good even coat. I'll probably invest in some of them then, to save loads of time so thanks for the tip.

I'd love to get a Caestus, but the only thing putting me off is the fact you can't put two squads of Terminators in it (unless the printed rules say otherwise) and just putting one squad with two characters, leaving three empty spaces, kinda defeats the object of taking it IMO. What are you planning to run yours with?
