Parts for marine missile launchers

Hi all. I am not sure if this is the right post chain to ask this (but did not want to start a new topic for just this) Anyway what is the best way to get much Marine rocket launchers? Buying the Devastator squad only gives you one.

Could you somehow build yourself those launchers, for example by using the Hunter-killer vehicle missile launcher?

You can, and some people do. Me I take a much simpler approach- I ask people for their missile launchers.

 

Theres alot of bits in a single devastator pack, and theres tons on the new SW and TDA boxes. I recently got 4 missile launchers in exchange for two plasma cannons and a pair of multi-meltas, wich gives me 8. I traded for 2 of the others in a similar fashion.

 

Alot of C:SM and C:BA players favor plasma cannons in their tacticals, or want the PA multi-melta option. The MM in particular is of less use for most SW players, so why not make a deal?

I've been in the same boat as you and here is what I've done: take HK and attach them to SM back packs, Ive also bough IG Heavy weapon teams and used the MLs and LC they give you.

The Bitz stores online are good but pricey.

The better way to me is to buy the 3XHeavy weapons teams from the IG. That gives you 3x ML, LC, and Auto cannon, plus a lot of nice extras! Ive made Long Fangs and Razorbacks that way.

I've got my eye on the Forgeworld Badab War special weapons packs.

You get 2 missile launchers, 2 flamers and 2 melta guns.

 

£9 per pack.

 

You can flog the flamers and melta guns on eBay (in batches) for £2 per melta gun and £1 per flamer.

That means each missile launcher only cost you £1.50

I just bought some green stuff so i am going to try to model some unique looking launchers first, using Hunter-Seeker pieces.

Do a search for the the Assault on Black Reach missile launcher figure.

 

Sure, he's a snap-tight fig, but you can bitz trade for him and he probably won't be that expensive on bits sites. And he is using the Devastator model missile launcher... ;)

I used IG MLs but I made them into tri-shot, shoulder-mounted launchers for two of my Long Fangs (who were cut off from supply lines and had to raid the locale pdf armory) with a couple lascannon targeters (which I had laying around). yes it used up alot of bits but I just don't think those IG MLs look good on a marine because they are far too small/skinny , three however look great. :teehee: (I'd post a few pics if I had any clue how to go about it, damn my incompetence)

I got the Fw pack of missiles and other heresy era weapons. All things considered it was better value than getting the msls from the warstore. One pack of Long fangs have normal sm msls(well one has hunter killer) and the other pack has the 5 fw heresy era missles.

Having a few Missile Launchers is fine, but spamming them throughout is boring anyway. Just get yourself two plastic Devastator Packs, so you'll have some Lascannons, Plasma Cannon, Heavy Bolters, and a couple Missile Launchers, too. You'll also get Multi-meltas that aren't as useful, but you can trade them for Missile Launchers to get a few more.

I tend to run 1 pack with 2 MLs and 2 LCs... but sometimes I like to switch it up a bit, or am playing a particularly large game- so I have 8 MLs in total, 4 LCs, and 4 PCs- gives one some options.

 

And of course since deathwatch came out everyones been wanting my heavy bolters....

 

But personally I think MLs are just about perfect. Wanna kill troops? Were good. Wanna kill tanks? We can hurt anything in the game. Monstrous creatures? Yep, its rare that theyll have better than a 3+.....

 

If I need melta or plasma my GHs can provide.

I have 10 and I don't think it is boring. Opinion and personal tastes.

 

I had only 9 of them and it is supprizing how little they managed to do.

Missile launchers, Auto cannons and Las cannons are for AV 10-12 stuff. Basically transports. If you target those transports, you 'should' be getting a good run from them.

 

AV 13-14 really needs MELTA attention and/or manoeuvring to get it done.

Sometimes s10 combat attacks, a lá DCCW or TWC power fists, because they are plentiful, will make it happen against LRs and Monoliths

 

You *can* take out AV 13-14 with MLs & LCs but it becomes fairly unlikely and should not be your first choice in tackling them.

 

Preds, Battlewagons and even Leman Russ can all be outmanoeuvred for side shots [rear if you have outwitted your foe with extra cunning] that make it much more likely. Anything with rear AV 10-11 is definitely assaultable even with krak grenades [due to volume of attacks] or s8 power fists.

 

The ML can then insta-kill t4 multi-wounders [Nobz, Tyranid Warriors, etc] and frag larger squads [little ones reduce the killiness]

The Auto Cannon can be used on small squads [due to not being a blast shot]

The LC does the same insta-kills as the ML but is also tasty against those pesky sv2+ things that practically laugh off krak missiles. That means MegaNobz, Broadsides, Sang guard and Tyrannofex.

 

Hopefully that will help your target priority. As a Templar player, I'd give your right arm to have even BA Devs in my list spamming MLs, let alone the saga worthy Fangs.

missiles are decent long range weapons at 48, and can harm vehicles or troops, sure they cant reliably hurt armour 13-14 vehicles, but thats what all your melta is for isn't it? enough missiles will glance a leman russ or landraider, but its a poor use of fire power.

 

A few of my missile launchers are the vehicle mounted ones, stuck on some arms, not perfect but will do in a pinch :D

I was in the process of interacting with a trader on eBay when my brother gave me some fifteen missile launchers, thereby ending my need want.

 

I thought I may as well share him with my hairy brothers :(
