Cheers guys! :HQ:

Brother Melice: Don't worry mate, I'm not abandoning the DW. ;)

I'm not really into the competition painting side of things which is why I never enter things like armies on parade or the golden demons. :)

PLASTICHEAD: Yeah nurgle in general is one of the ones that comes up quite a bit with GD winners and I think you're right about the sheer number of colours and things that makes them stand apart from the others. I'm still putting the hull and track sections together at the moment on the LR but once it's done I'll stick up some pictures. ;)

Retrograde: Certainly mate, I start off with Astronomican Grey foundation for the base coat then go over this with a fifty fifty mix of astronomican and skull white, then repeat but adding more white to the mix. You need to water the layers down for the best result leaving the previous coat visable in the recesses. Then you use regular skull white for highlighting. The key is to create a slight off white so that the skull white highlights give the impression of it being pure white.

Love the look of the DG Doghouse, another cracking way to showcase your GS skills. The game board looks awesome! Can see it has that whole battlefield feel about it. You certainly know how to drum up interest in a thread!

Thanks mate! :D

I am a bit a of fanatically scenery builder but lack of space at the moment has meant that I haven't built any in ages and had to get rid of the bits that I did have. :HQ:

The beauty of blocks is that it's easy to store and with a group of people I know hopefully getting a club together up at winchester in the nearish future they should see some action.

What I want to do is a WWII style european village on one side and the trench network on the other. The idea being that my chaos horde are attacking an Imperial world and are doing battle with the entrenched PDF forces.

Sounds like a pretty dam good idea Doghouse, simple yet very effective!

Regarding your DG, how many layers do you use when building up the chest? I am guessing that you add layers or do you simply 'press in'? By that I mean around the neck for example, that piece of armour (the collar) was it a thin sausage shape that you put on & smooth out or is it 'de-pressed' if you get my meaning??

The torso was one large piece that I stretched across the chest and shaped to fit, I'm getting into the habit of shaping single pieces rather than adding layers but in this case the collar was an after thought where I added a sausage of GS and then flattened and shaped it.

Bit of an update

Got a bit more done on the trench section and a bit more done on the DG. I've added a fire step that will hold a 25mm based model allowing him to see over the top and still leaving room for 40mm bases in the trench. I've also updated the observation post turning it fully into part of the trench.

You have to be carefully when making trenches in 40k games mainly because there is nothing duller than marching towards a gun line that is in cover blasting away at your troops. So to make it a little tougher for the defenders I've only made room for six models on the firing step and if they want the remainder of the squad to fire they need to be tightly grouped in the observation post. With the defenders having the main advantage rather than muck about with each side having different points values I'm tailoring the trenches to make it a little tougher on them.

Bit more done on the DG. Still have to do a bit of cleaning up and a little more detailing along with the pack and finishing the feet.

To create a contrast between the white of the WE and hopefully add a little to warmer rotting side of nurgle I'm going to undercoat this guy with a tin of bleached bone spray that I have then rust and weather the heck out of him.

I have been absent for a while due to work, but i am pleased to see more work from you Doghouse. I have to admit that i find the Death Guard slightly lacking in quality compared to the other models, no offence, but i am sure when he is finished he will blend in with the rest of the squad perfectly. :)

Cheers guys! :)

Dinks: Yeah to be honest you are right there mate. I sliced my left thumb pretty deeply whilst cutting something the other day and had to do him one handed which was a bit daft really as I should have waited but was on a roll. I think I can rescue him though.

Oh that sounds nasty, i have done that countless times, i hope the thumb gets better soon! I am looking forward to the rescue attempt!

Thanks mate. It's a pain in the backside when you do something like that isn't it! :D

Basecoated the dreadnought but as I'm completely out of black spray I went to the back up plan and sprayed him with some old bleached bone spray I had. The results weren't great but I quite fancy a bit of a challenge and it's been years since painted over a lighter undercoat.

At the moment I'm blocking out all the colours and will begin to even out the basecoat. As it's going to be a former Imperial Fists dreadnought that they have captured during the Scouring I'm going to be painting it up in loyalist colours first then weathering the heck out of it.

The helmets on the top will be in the colours of the loyalists that defended terra during the siege so probably a white scar and a blood angel.

I'll be honest. I love your work usually but there is just something about the Dreadnought that doesn't agree with me.

In either case I love the rest of your work and want you to keep going, even with the dreadnought because who knows... when it'd finished I'll probably like it too!

Though I wish I had more patience... then I'd do my own true scale stuff.

EDIT:

This was originally in regards to the first painted photo of the Dreadnought. I does look better now that it has a bit more work done. With the true scale World Eater next to him, did you do anything to buff him up or is he fresh out of the box sized?

Really like your DG Doghouse, coming along real nice now :) , that dread looks so bad ass, I like how the size is against the TS WE. I always imagined from he art work that dreads were actually quite huge in a way. Love the trench system & how it is coming along!!! Gonna be quite a piece.

Slyen: Yeah it does still need quite a bit of work but it's getting there slowly, hopefully it'll look the part when finished. :)

Dorns padawan: Weirdly enough I think the dreadnought may be a tiny fraction on the small side. ;) Yeah dreads are awesome and huge walking tanks which doesn't come across that well with the plastic kit. When I put a normal one next to this guy he looks like he's bought his kid to work with him! ;)

Yeah hopefully the board will look great. I figured rather than just make some models I might as go the whole hog and make a world for them to invade! :D

I'm calling it Heldengrad and will be theming it so that it resembles a sort of 1940s european sort of setting, it'll be an Imperial recruiting world for the Imperial Guard.

Nephren-ka: I didn't know that the dornian Imperial Fists were Khorne worshipers, that's a cool coincidence. :D

I was going to just paint it in traitor colours but the idea of it being more like a walking defaced tomb to wind up the loyalists seemed like a very chaos like approach. I want it to look as Imperial as possible and rely on stuff like the rune graffiti and trophies to show that it's chaos. That and I enjoy painting yellow! :D

Not had much time to do much today other than work on the dred a little more but have begun encasing the MDF mock up of the land raider in plasticard as I want the plastic one to eventually become the DW's ride.

Using the plasticard as the base I'll then get to converting it to resemble a mk IIB land raider.

Managed to pick up some Raptors today at GW so have taken the jump pack off the Apostle and replaced it with the more ornate looking raptor pack. Never really been a fan of the raptor models themselves but the packs are really nice.

Also did a bit more on the dreadnought.

The raptor jump pack suits that guy much better IMO. I was going to convert one by sawing it in half down the centre and spacing the jets further away from each other, like the loyalist version. Mine are metal though so that can wait a while.

That raider is going to own them all  I look forward to your progress on that

That sounds like a good idea mate, it'll certainly bring them in line with the pre-heresy look.

Yeah the raider should be quite a beast eventually. :)

Got a the lord based now and once it's dry l'll begin the painting. Then it's just a matter of cleaning up the paint work and on to the first raptor.
