death given form
Looking really good as usual, Doghouse, although something seems to be a bit off with the right forearm. Doghouse
Thanks mate! :) I see what you mean, I think it's the angle of the photo with the purity seal covering the top of the arm. I might have to move the seal up a bit. With the first squad underway I'm starting to think a little more about the actual army list itself. I am aiming for a warband rather than trying to reproduce part of a legion so that I can mix as many different types of marines that I want that have all banded together under Kron's banner. Apostle Arkan Kron Chaos Lord with Jump Pack, Crozius (Power Weapon), Combi-bolter. Kron (formerly Kron the World Burner) is a seriously old character of mine that was originally a chaos renegade before becoming a second edition Word Bearer then finally settled on being a renegade marine captain as can be seen here: http://i52.tinypic.com/33wmc94.jpg In his latest incarnation he's now returned to the WBs and has gained himself a jump pack. As I can't give any chosen jump packs he'll be leading a Raptor squad mainly because they can keep up with him but also because back in the days before the Heresy jump pack troops were seen as the elites and I can't see him hanging around with anyone beneath his station as a former jump pack marine. The Judicium This is Kron's personal guard, former members of a Word Bearer elite jump pack company and lead by a Night Lord Champion that Kron beat in personal combat and now acts as his enforcer. The squad is five models strong and is lead by an aspiring champion with lightening claws, one marine with a melta-gun and one with a plasma gun. I'm also giving the squad an Icon of Chaos Glory so that they can call in back up in the form of a squad of lesser daemons. The Summoned This is a squad of seven lesser daemons that are bound to Kron's will as part of a dark pact. These guys are basically back up for the Raptors and a reason to paint the seven Bloodletter models I bought ages ago. The Dioceses of the Faithful This is the main unit of the army making up the bulk of Kron's followers. Lead by a former member of the World Eaters with a power weapon this is a big unit and will certainly draw a lot of fire, to bolster their morale a little they will also have an Icon of Chaos Glory. I'm not going to stick a heavy weapon in this squad purely because I feel that it will be a waste, I will be chucking a flamer in the squad though. Venerable Brother Werner Werner is the poor unfortunate soul that the warband captured during the days of the Heresy and basically tortured untill he went completely insane. While I miss the days of being able to make dreadnoughts possessed to negate their rather unfortunate habit of shooting up the wrong side I've never really had a problem with it in the past and on several occasions made it through the whole game without it losing control. To be safe though I tend to whack these guys on a flank to minimise damage to my own troops and armour. Werner has extra armour, twin linked lascannons and a heavy flamer. Cursus Ecclesiasticus This brute is the Land Raider of the army and will be a recreation of my old model as seen here: http://i56.tinypic.com/rscztt.jpg http://i53.tinypic.com/x2jxqo.jpg http://i51.tinypic.com/23m603m.jpg http://i55.tinypic.com/nbx5w6.jpg This will have have extra armour, dirge casters and a havoc launcher. Although I intend to cover it in spikes again I'm looking at making the new one into a MkII B. This gives me a total of 1106pts so far leaving me just under 400pts to play around with. I need to get another squad of chaos marines in there just yet and may add a defiler to bolster the fire power a little more if there is enough points. Doghouse
Looking really good as usual, Doghouse, although something seems to be a bit off with the right forearm. Perhaps it is slightly too slim? Just figured out what it is that's doing it. Where the fore arm is modeled on the Mk IV sleeve the purity seal makes it look thinner than it really is. Cheers for that mate, never really noticed untill you rightly pointed it out and can go back and alter it now. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/217959-summoners-truescale-death-watch-marines/page/13/#findComment-2834754 Share on other sites
death given form
Sure thing, I just noticed something about it just seemed... wonky, heh. I'm looking forward to seeing the new Kron model; it's always nice to see old characters (especially those with a rich background like this one) getting revamped and brought back to speed. Doghouse
Thanks mate. :) Here's the next guy. I want to do this one as a Mk IV armoured marine and will ultimately be from the Emperor's Children, I've decided to go the swordsman route and have his bolter stowed on his back or mag-locked to this armour somewhere. http://i53.tinypic.com/n71m3l.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/217959-summoners-truescale-death-watch-marines/page/13/#findComment-2834904 Share on other sites
Doghouse
Got a bit more done on the Emperor's Children marine today and hopefully aim to start painting him this evening with any luck. Still need to do the lower legs, clean up a few areas and add the pack and bolter but it shouldn't take long. I've also started the first lesser daemon to go with the raptors. I'm using the 30mm base to get a uniform look to the army rather than try to squeeze out any gaming advantage, I'll only be playing friendlies anyway so it's not really an issue. http://i54.tinypic.com/2rotlro.jpg http://i53.tinypic.com/n52bko.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/217959-summoners-truescale-death-watch-marines/page/13/#findComment-2835346 Share on other sites
Doghouse
Playing around with where to put the bolter and have decided what would be cool would be to make this guy a former recon marine. I've chopped the jets off a jump pack and am now cleaning it up and adding the comms gear. This guy would have served in the ECs as a recon marine during and before the heresy, having avoided the whole slannesh thing he now follows Kron. http://i55.tinypic.com/8wz4ed.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/217959-summoners-truescale-death-watch-marines/page/13/#findComment-2835448 Share on other sites
Doghouse
Bit of an update. Nearly finished the EC now and am just doing the final clean up before I can start painting him. I've also begun the production line, most of which are using Mk IV and MK IV lids. Having seen the Mk V helmets in person I may have to get some Mk V marines at some point as they are seriously nice models. http://i55.tinypic.com/1z1cxut.jpg http://i52.tinypic.com/2lt66fb.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/217959-summoners-truescale-death-watch-marines/page/13/#findComment-2837059 Share on other sites
Dorns Padawan
Tip top stuff Doghouse, they are really coming along sweetly - never cease to amaze me how quick you are with getting these guys all greenstuffed up & then painted! How are you finding the shoulder joints now with the small circular plate you are using? Your comms marine looks rad, like the look with the vox unit on him, not seen that done before - nice little touch! Doghouse
Thank mate. :o The back pack is something that is taken from the HH artwork books, there are a number of pictures of these Recon marines and I thought it'd be a nice touch to include one in the army. There isn't a lot on them in terms of background material but they do seem to be a sort of forerunner to the scouts of today, although scouts have been mentioned in the heresy books so this may well be a specialist role. The idea I'm currently playing around is an old concept I had with one of the previous incarnations of Kron where he was using a corrupted version of the Imperial Tarot to collect warriors based on the characters of the major arcana of the deck. One of the characters I want to bring back for example is the dark champion, a former black templar marine that is captured by the dark eldar but manages to escape. When he returns to the site where his brother's were killed he finds their bodies rotted and their geneseed unharvested and after spending years in the gladiatorial pits of the DE it drives him a little insane so he takes the armour of the fallen Emperor's Champion and goes on a bit of a rampage against the Imperium. The shoulder joints work well for spacing and attaching the arms without pinning, it makes it easier to get them all the same size as well. Dinks
I would assume that a recon marine with that sort of comms gear would be there to boost signal, from what we have read in fluff and novels, comms built into the astartes suits can be a bit sketchy over distance. The space marines could use that sort of comms pack to help coordinate large scale battles or get better reception when contacting the fleet. Doghouse
Yeah it'd be something along those lines I'd imagine. He'll be the eyes and ears of the force, creeping around behind enemy lines and keeping Kron informed of the enemies battle field transmissions. Doghouse
Quick update. Got the first five guys basecoated now and well under way. I want to get these finished over the next few days so that I can crack on with the other five. I've drybrushed the bases quickly to make them stand out a little better for the pictures but made two mistakes with the new guys. First off I glued the heavy bolter guy to his painted base then realised I hadn't sprayed him first and secondly used the wrong thickness of plasticard for the apothecary's feet so his feet are a little thicker. Neither are a real issue though. http://i51.tinypic.com/awwayb.jpg http://i51.tinypic.com/2exr428.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/217959-summoners-truescale-death-watch-marines/page/13/#findComment-2838664 Share on other sites

Lord Melvin
You have kindled a new modeling interest in me Doghouse. I think I'll true scale my new DIY chapter once I get the models for them. Doghouse
Excellent stuff! Always great to see someone else taking the plunge into the world of truescale marines. ^_^ Bikes would be really cool as it's not something that you see getting the truescale treatment. As they split down the middle you could widen them a little bit quite easily and then it'd be a matter of lengthening them and maybe adding a little height. Marine bikes are pretty much tanks on two wheels rather than what you'd expect from a conventional bike so you can really go to town on them. Look forward to seeing what you come up with mate. ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/217959-summoners-truescale-death-watch-marines/page/13/#findComment-2839219 Share on other sites

Bava
Oh my...this is how miniatures should look like, they're capturing the spirit of 40k perfectly. Needless to say your truescale-fu is amazing.
