Doghouse
Cheers guys! ;) Grotsmasha: Ok mate, DA it is then. ;) Machinepriest: I will be getting back to my IHs as I want to add one of the new dreads to them. These guys are only a quick truescale fix for now. mikhail: Thanks mate, I may well sell the armatures at some point but for now I'm keeping my options open and keeping them under wraps. ;) Keep your eyes on my Ammobunker threads though as I'll probably start a log with the ten or so none 40k models that I've sculpted so far. Doghouse
Will do mate. ;) Right bit of an update. Just to flesh out the back ground on these guys a little more I'm working in some of the old DW background fluff to explain why it is that they are on the planet investigating the tomb ship. http://i52.tinypic.com/mjbhcp.jpg Got a little more done on Sergeant Vale but for the time being am focusing on getting the rest of the squad built. Brother-Sergeant Lucien Vale http://i52.tinypic.com/o7232a.jpg Next up is the first of the three death watch marines that I am focusing on because they will need the most work put into them because of their fairly distinct chapter backgrounds. Brother Heinrich Richter Richter is from the Black Templars so I am using the GK legs as the basis to give him more of an ornate feel. I will be adding tabbard to the armour and various other little bits. http://i54.tinypic.com/1s1etx.jpg Brother Harkon Wulfenson Wulfenson is so named because it is often joked among the members of his Space Wolves company that he is the illegitimate son of a Wulfen and a witch hag due to his almost complete lack of manners, personal hygiene and his furious temper. This guy will be having various wolf pelts and totems added to his armour so that he stands apart from the rest. http://i55.tinypic.com/2dtovh5.jpg Brother Leodrann Leodrann is from the Salamanders and will be the flamer guy for the unit. I'll be adding some mandrake mantles to the model along with a few other parts. http://i55.tinypic.com/678nko.jpg Lastly there is the group shot of the work so far. http://i55.tinypic.com/1em49x.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/217959-summoners-truescale-death-watch-marines/page/4/#findComment-2816986 Share on other sites
Brother Melice
Damn you Doghouse!!! I seriously hate you for your superb and magnificent GS work and as it would seem an infinite source of ideas for your miniatures! Horse-play aside... you keep amazing everyone here on the forums further! Brilliant work! Ironwrought Huw
I really should stop reading your threads. Everytime I do, I see something you've done and think "that's brilliant, I want to try that!" And then find out I can't do it ;) . Your kill team is looking great so far, the sergeant looks suitably big and imposing. Brilliant work, as always! Doghouse
Thanks mate. One more quick update. Just have to do some minor clean up work and finish the boots before the templar is ready for painting. I decided to add a chainsword to the model to make him a little more templar like. Got a little more done on the Space Wolves guy as well, all the bolter guys will be using the phobos pattern bolters as seen here as they are a little bigger than the plastics. http://i52.tinypic.com/n5poja.jpg http://i56.tinypic.com/8web7d.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/217959-summoners-truescale-death-watch-marines/page/4/#findComment-2817221 Share on other sites
Paradill
I hate you..... Seriously good stuff mate. I particularly like Richter, the pose makes him look like he's itching for a new target. Just how a marine should be. I applaud your supreme true-scale skill and salute your devotion to the hobby. Bravo sir! Frosthamn
Yay orange marines! Simple but awesome. The DW Sergeant looks awesome. ephrael
The Black Templar looks much better with the chainsword and the Wolf is coming along nicely. I happen to have a variety of extra Space Wolf, Grey Knight and standard terminator bits that are yours if you want them. I even have the Red Scorpion Terminator pads from Culln if you want them. Drop me a PM if you need anything. I don't want anything in return. I would actually feel honored if I could contribute to your project in any way. Dorns Padawan
Doghouse what more can I say that has not already been said? My fav so far is defo the BT!!!!!! Have now read all the thread pages on the Ammo Bunker & dang, you guys have some serious talent!!!! Your DW guys wil be a superb addition! Question - I have noticed a couple of brothers on the forum using corks to support the mini's when you first construct the for ease of painting. Are you simply drilling a very small hole in the base of the feet & sticking them mini's on to copper wire in the cork or do you glue them on & then when finished use the pins to pin them to their bases? Right, it is now 08:30 & I have gotta get down the road pronto to be in department for 08:50! Look forward to updates as usual! Doghouse
Thanks guys, greatly appreciated! :) Dorns padawan: The cork thing is mostly to make the sculpting easier but does also making the painting easier as well. Normally I stick the models to the tops of paint pots using blue tac but with these guys I drilled a hole into the bottom of the feet then inserted the wire before sticking them into a couple of modified corks. It was done mostly because I haven't got the bases yet rather than anything arty-pharty. mikhail: If you have any spare parts that you want to contribute I'll send you my postal address via pm mate. ;) Strike Captain Lysimachus: Yeah I'm going to try and work some cc bits into the model somewhere once I get to adding the pelts and stuff. Pulse
I may get hold of some the new contemptor dreadnoughts if the army expands as they are the perfect size for truescale armies and it'd save me time having to scratch build my own. Brother Melice
Doghouse!!! They are coming along superbly!!! But please, finish all the greens first, take multiple photos, front, side, back, so we can see how and what you are doing.... and only then send them to the paint adepts. As we follow your thread, we learn, so help us learn, more PICS!!! Doghouse
Thanks guys. :) It'll depend on actually how big the models are but from what I can tell although not really truescale they do look quite large which should be enough to give the impression that they are the right size. That's the thing about dreadnoughts, they are absolutely massive machines. If it doesn't look right then I'll just use them for the Iron Hands. Ninja'd ;) I'll see what I can do mate. I've run out of black spray paint at the moment and it'll probably be a couple of weeks before I can afford any more anyway. I may knock together a 360 degree reveal video for them if I get the chance. In the meantime I will do my best to get multiple angle shots up for you. ;) Edited July 13, 2011 by Doghouse Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/217959-summoners-truescale-death-watch-marines/page/4/#findComment-2817666 Share on other sites
Doghouse
Right, just to set the scene a little more here's a bit more of the back story for the squad. This basically sets the tone and character of the squad members a little better. The last mile of dark and twisting corridors to the landing pad had taken their toll on the marines as they fought a retreat to the extraction point. Brother Cassius had been lost, the muzzle flash of his bolter and roar of defiance silenced by the sheer weight of numbers of the cultists that clawed at his armour with bleeding fingers as they attempted to tear their way through his armour with their bare hands. Richter and Geki Two Blades stood side by side, the whirl of the Templars chainsword interrupted only by the bolter fire of his brother Space Wolf. The two marines cut down wave after wave of cultists with ease as they charged to their deaths at the hands of the stalwart giants. The bond of brotherhood was strong between the two, despite their cultural differences they had spent hours together in the practice cages honing their skills to the point where they fought as one. "Any time now brother!" Geki laughed to the Salamander knelt on the other side of the open doors as he worked with the controls. "And there was me thinking that you were enjoying the practice brother." Leodrann smiled without looking up as he focused on getting the controls to work again. The rest of the squad had taken up a defensive position at the far end of the corridor by the next set of doors. Inquistor Reynaard had been fading out of unconciousness for several minutes as Brother Gideon tended to his injuries. "I say we stand and fight!" Harkon snorted gruffly as he thumbed the chainblade of his beloved bolter into life "Freya longs for the taste of xeno blood" he smiled wickedly, his huge canine teeth giving him an almost daemonic appearance in the poor light of the corridor. "How far to the lander Demetri?" Brother-Sergeant Vale barked. There were those amongst the squad that had joked that Vale missed his calling as a Chaplain but none would dare say it to his face. His faith in the Emperor and his men had bonded the otherwise rag tag band of brothers into a coherant fighting force playing to their strengths so they fought as one. Whilst there were those that had found his worship of the Emperor at little distasteful at first none doubted his ability as a marine and they would follow him into the Eye of Terror without a moments hesitation. "Another mile Brother-Sergeant" the Imperial Fist replied "it's one long stretch from here, no corners, no intersections, at this rate I doubt we'll make it before they overrun us." The two genestealers burst through the doorway brushing Geri and Richter aside as they screeched with alien fury. Leodrann rolled onto his back thrusting his foot into the chest the attacking creature and pushed it away with inhuman strength as he drew his bolt pistol firing almost point blank into it's face. It's head exploded in a bloom of bone fragments and purple icor showering his face plate and obscuring his vision. Blindly his swung his arm out firing at the second but it was too quick dodging the explosive charges with ease as it bounded from surface to surface up the length of the corridor. The rest of the squad opened fire as one but were unble to make their mark as it darted with terrifying speed towards Deiter gouging huge chunks of ceramite from his armour as it pounced. Harkon roared as he ran to the aid of his brother, the creature parrying his chainblade knocking him aside as he crashed into two of his brothers. Brother-Sergeant Vale unsheathed his powersword and flicked the rune of activation bathing the corridor with the pale blue light of his weapon. The Genestealer raised his claw to deal Deiter the killing blow only to have the limb sliced clean from it's body. The hymm of battle sprung forth from the lips of the sergeant, channeling his faith into a single moment of his retribution. The genestealer was fast, it's claws leathal but it was no match for the righteous fury of Vale. The creature rained blows down upon the sergeant knocking his sword from his hand, Brother Cravek stepped forward to intervene but Harkon held him back knowing this fight could only end one way. Stripped of his sword every part of the sergeant's armour now became a weapon as he fought his fists, elbows and knees expertly diverting the strength of attackers rabid assault and launched blugeoning counter attacks. In frustration the wounded genestealer lunged forward, Vale twisted catching it in a head lock in mid flight as he forced his fingers into the creatures mouth. He barely felt the sharp pin pricks of the xeno's teeth penetrating the gauntlets of his armour as he wrenched it's mouth wider before tearing it's head in two with a sickening crunch. Harkon let out a short snort of a laugh as he helped Deiter to his feet. "What's the status of the door Leodrann?" Vale shouted as he retreived his sword. "Done Brother-Sergeant!" The Salamander replied as he wrenched his helmet free. Geki and Richter continued to fight the remaining cultists ignorant of the events behind them, they seemed to be trying to out do each other. In the distant darkness of the corridor Geki could make out the forms of genestealers massing for the attack as their foul human kin threw themselves at the marines with no concern for their own safety. Nobles, dock hands, servants, all traces of status and rank meaninglessly mingling amongst the horde of fanatics. All were equal in their impending death. At the back Geki could make out the stealers forming around a single humanoid figure who's eyes glowed with a nimbus of energy that seemed to stare into his very soul. He glanced to his brother, lost in the fury of battle, then back to the Magus. "I'm sorry little brother..." he said with great remorse for his actions as he turned on his heel and with all his remaining strength pushed the Templar throught the open door. "Leodrann, do your duty brother seal the door!" Leodrann paused for the briefest moments as he looked directly into the face of his brother, a single second of recognition before he turned to look at Richter sprawled out on the floor. "Die well Brother!" He whispered as he acknowledged the actions of the old wolf and sealed the door. Consumed with utter grief Richter let loose an uncharacteristic howl of anguish as Geki disappeared from view. He scrambled to his feet clawing at the seem of the door like a feral animal. The roar of laughter, curses and bolter fire ringing in his ears from the other side. He turned to Leodrann clasping at his armour, lost in the moment of desperation. "Please Brother, open the door!" He pleaded in vain. Leodrann put his arm on the Templar's shoulder, taken aback slightly by his loss of control. "We must go Heinrich...do not let his sacrifice be in vain..." He said solomnly. Richter turned to the rest of the squad, their heads hung low as Gideon knelt to scoop up the injured Inquisitor in arms and his thoughts returned to his duty. With a blood curdling howl of rage and frustration he slammed his fist into the wall. The moment passed he knelt as he swore an oath of vengance, he would return to this place, his fury would go unquenched untill everything in the city lay dead at his feet. Doghouse
Bit more done on Harkon. I've begun to file down the detail on the standard GK shoulder pad that bears the chapter icon as it's perfect for making mk IV or VII pads once you get rid of the writing. Still building up the armour before I start adding the SW details. http://i56.tinypic.com/aykiuu.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/217959-summoners-truescale-death-watch-marines/page/4/#findComment-2817794 Share on other sites

Doghouse
Cheers guys! :D I think the thing with true scaling for me isn't just about making bigger marines but more about passing on the techniques to others and having people have a go at them themselves. I've seen some amazing sculpts over the years but I don't really think to myself "I'm going to have a go at that!" afterwards where as with conversions I think to myself "wow that's really cool, I'm going to try that!" Seeing other people making their own versions is very cool and is what I enjoy about it most. :( To be honest I could probably sculpt the legs from scratch quite easily but then you get to the stage where from there you might as well sculpt the rest of the model and be done with it. I could probably cast the parts and make an entire army over night but it sort of defeats the object in my mind and I'd much rather do it this way and learn as I go along. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/217959-summoners-truescale-death-watch-marines/page/4/#findComment-2817934 Share on other sites
