Doghouse

Congrats mate, another Doghouse classic!!! Used to come home from work, put the PC on & have a look on Skysports but lately all I seem to do is get in, put the PC on & long on tho the B&C to check out Doghouse's thread lol  . Would love to see some Night Lords in the mix as it was your original Night Lord that got me hooked into TS modelling. You still got him knocking around btw??? The one with the left hand pointing & he had no helm on? He was/is still probably my fav you have done. (ok afn boy rant now over :) ) Edited by Dorns padawan

Thanks mate! :)

I guess I better keep the updates coming then... :D

Yeah I still have him. Ultimately my goal with that guy is to turn him into a colonel straken proxy and have him lead an army of traitor guard, probably my favourite mini that I've made to date and my first proper attempt at truescale.

Not too sure what sort of look to go with for him just yet though, it's either going to be minor nurgle corruption or full on old school death guard.

Got a bit more done on the WE while the land raider dries, basically just starting to weather him up a little bit.

Soooo can't wait to see this LR you been on about. Must have been the best part of a month ago or more when you first mentioned you were working on a TS LR!

Something of a little quibble actually for once :( . Not sure if it is my eye sight, but there is something about the boots that don't look right? They almost look...a little too thick? Anywys, who am I to quibble with you mate?!

Very nice paint job & I really dig the weathering.

Love the shade you have on the skin, that is one thing that I hate painting is skin, that is why all my models are helmeted :)

Yeah the land raider is quite an undertaking but it should be worth the wait. It should be good but I want to do the Mk IIB FW style pre-heresy land raider so am just figuring out the size.

To be fair the boots are a little thick because I rushed them (was painting before the GS had dried :D ) but I can live with it, once he's on the base it hopefully won't be as obvious with any luck.

Skin is tricky but I don't really do anything flash with mine, it's just practice. I either start off with tanned flesh then go over this with a fifty fifty mix of tanned flesh and dwarf flesh followed by a fifty fifty mix of dwarf flesh and elf flesh then shade with ogryn flesh wash or cut to the chase as I did with this guy and started off with Tallarn Flesh, fifty fifty mix of tallarn flesh and elf flesh then washed with Ogryn flesh. When that was dry I went over it again with the tallarn/elf flesh mix on the raised areas, then lightened the cheek bones, chin and top of the head with the same mix but with more elf flesh mixed in. I then used Ogryn flesh wash to shade the face again to create shade.

Dug this old picture out as this guy I made with the axe years ago is the inspiration for this new guy. Guess it's a before and after the heresy thing. :D

Looking good, looking good. What's not to like?

'Not too sure what sort of look to go with for him just yet though, it's either going to be minor nurgle corruption or full on old school death guard.'

I guess I'm voting for discreet corrupition, just enough to show wich way he's going. I think the transformation is the most interresting.

Maximum toughness, with a little dirt the corners? I mean, he's gotta have to look dead hard, ain't he?

I feel that a full out old school aproach in this case, would seperate him too much from the look of the rest of the 'team'. The HH artwork have few good pics in it of pretty tough looking DG's.

I'll be watching this...

Cheers guys! B)

Ferrus Manus: I hope not, I've only got untill the second week of september to get the team finished! :D

I should have the Imperial Fist and the Apothecary finished over the next few days but chaos is definitely the way forward for me! An entire army of these guys in big units would be cool! I fancy sculpting a few things like daemons to back them up as well.

Sgt. Wolf: Yeah that's my thinking as well. I can't go too over board or he'll look out of place. I have started him and am going for a corrupted Mk II/III sort of look and he will be in original legion colours to fit the theme I have going.

Here is the WE mounted on a 30mm base. I'm going for a trenchy feel for the base so will be adding barbed wire and stuff as I ultimately want to recreate my old trench board for this army.

Cheers mate. ;)

It'll be slow going on the bases till I can get some more next week with any luck but to me the image of guard holed up in trenches is one that has stuck with me for years since my old gaming days. Hopefully they should look pretty cool.

With the change of plan comes a change of direction for the dreadnought. I'm only going to focus on the chaos stuff in terms of an army for now rather than initially expanding the DW guys (might make an army of them later) I need to get them some loot to eat up some points.

It seems unlikely, but not entirely impossible, this stage that these guys are not going to have access to all the gear that they had in the heresy so the dreadnought is probably going to be something that they have captured then tortured the pilot untill he's gone a little wacko.

I quite fancy painting this up in yellow so may turn it into a corrupted Imperial Fists dred, not sure yet though but leaning towards one of the major first founding chapters that was present at the siege of terra.

I've also started on the DG but rather than go fully corrupted am going to go for a corrupted and dilapidated suit of Mk II/III armour. I could go full on plague marine but he'd probably just infect the others.

Here's the first part of the trench board for these guys. I'm keeping it fairly simple to begin with with a simple straight section using a four by twelve by twelve inches foam board section.

The reasoning behind this is that rather than building up I'm going to be digging down and by doing so I can make them double sided. So the beauty of this is that I can have a trench section on one side and say a bombed out basement of a building or river on the other. The trick is to match up tiles so that the trench section entrances line up and I can go to town on the other side. I've got a stack of twenty four of these along with a horde of supplies that I have been gathering over the last year or so, so I should have enough for a 6' x 4' board.

Here's the first section under way. I've basically cut a section of the tile down the middle and have begun adding the planking for the flooring, this one is simple like I say but there will be others with communications bunkers, zig zag sections, etc.

For the other side I'm carving out the basement of a bombed out building so that I can either leave it as a large hole or place a ruined building over the top.

As you can see here I've made it deep enough so that you can't see over the sides and wide enough to fit one 40mm base or two 25mm bases. To see over the top I'll be adding a firing step that will bring the LOS of the model over the top. The sides will be paneled which is also where I can add lots of little details like sand bags, firing slots, etc.

Here's a shot of the thickness so that you can see how much space I have on the otherside. The trick is to avoid touching the corners of the block so that when you flip it over it'll remain level, but apart from these parts you can add fox holes, craters, streams, rivers, the works. Basically it's a simple way of adding an extra sense of dimension to your gaming surface. To protect and strengthen the sides I'll be going around the edges with black duct tape.

Bit more on the first trench board. I'm currently heavily scoring the surface and roughing it up, the beauty of foam board being that you can shape it with a little pressure. Once I go over the surface with fine grade railway ballast it'll fine in all the rough areas and give it a more natural look.

The large shell hole can either be left as a sort of fox hole for minis to take cover in or most likely what I'll do is half fill it with water effects.

Yeah you could say that mate, won't be my guys doing the hiding though! ;)

Here's another quick update as I'm beginning shape the surface and I've added a forward observation hole that some guardsmen have converted out of a blast hole. I've cut a lip into the front side of the trench wall where I'll be sculpting the sand bags and have done the same on the front of the observation post.

Hopefully this board will serve as the display base for the army as a whole.

As always sir, your grennstuff skills make me envious. I really wish I had your skills. For some reason I always loved the DG - their story and their fall. Marooned in the warp and having their prayers answered by father nurgle himself. It also seems like a very popular theme for entries of golden deamon, because there are soo many modeling-posibilities involved in making a good-looking DG-model. Man am I ranting.

Nice work - as always. I'm watching this space with interest. Gotta see that LR that everyone is talking about, AND how that DG turns out.
