Simo429
If you are putting 5 wolf guard in a drop pod you really need to put some combi meltas in there and blow up what ever is big and scary. Wysten
2 battleforces are a great start to any space wolf army. Grey Mage once gave me the excellent advice of 1 grey hunters squad per 500 points and I stick with that up to 2000 points. Try and concentrate on getting bodies on the board and not going for the shiny special characters, Grey Hunters are the best troop choice in the game in my opinion. So my 2 squads of 9 GH loaded to the teeth and droppod plus a fully decked out RP and WGBL plus Bjorn clone(unnamed[still :) ]) is to much glass? Yes, a fully decked out squad costs considerably more then a tactical squad, thats not talking about the Rune Priest (who, typically, gains very little. Runic Armour or Two powers is understandable, but taking all that? A Rune Priest does not get any better at combat or his job for all those upgrades) and the battleguard (Is he doing what another full squad can't be doing? With all those upgrades, could you not afford a entire squad that is likely to offer more firepower on landing?) Or two dreads compared to one Bjoan? Marines are elite armies in definition that they are generalist, they do everything well, but you don't need to do their job for them by making your army tiny without reason to. You shoot them and kill a few, they shoot back and kill half of your army because most of those upgrades do nothing outside of the assualt phase. Second pod comes in and rinse and repeat. By spending so much on glass, when it comes to the table top, you have done half of their job for them. It will shatter under the weight of a turns fire. Boys before toys. Captain Juan Juarez
This must be the point where I pop up with my Space Wolves slogan of: Grey Hunters, the Real Man's Tactical SquadTM I often sub-consciously echo Grey Mage's policy of 1 per 500 because pound for pound there are none better; never let anyone tell you the loss of a Heavy Weapon is world ending.. 'cause it ain't. Stock up and kick some *insert colloquial reference to the arse*. rayshimi
so its best that i buy the battleforce and convert all troops to grey hunters and then buy a tactical squad for the weapons then wolfsize them up to grey hunters also.. that would give me 30 units of grey hunters Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218115-newbie-needs-advice-on-spacewolves/page/2/#findComment-2604232 Share on other sites
postal105
30 units of grey hunters is just a few to many i personally run 3 to 4 units of 10 grey hunters normally having a rhino/razorback and 2 packs of blood 10 claws and then build my force around that i find it to be a good solid core army and the pack numbers very depending size of the game. any thing that i add after that is all used to support the grey's as the advance or as the hold objectives so they can counter charge those silly enough to charge them.
