Ulfhedinn
Just finished two MotW and I think they look so good I’m going to do a couple more. I was told that the Rat Ogre arms were too big for the Space Wolf body but I thought they would work if I cut them and filed down an area to fit inside a shoulder pad…they worked better than expected :D Now before anyone gets judgmental…I painted 1000’s of points of various armies when I played 2nd edition in college and I know I am not a good painter. I’ve been getting all my Space Wolf Army painted by commission and I plan to send these models off as well. Yes, I know some of you will cringe but I enjoy putting the models together and magnetizing them…I just want to look at them and be inspired. Critiques are welcome before I send them off for painting. http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m612/Ulfhedinn_40K/DSCN0931.jpg http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m612/Ulfhedinn_40K/DSCN0938.jpg http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m612/Ulfhedinn_40K/DSCN0918.jpg http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m612/Ulfhedinn_40K/DSCN0917.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218137-my-motw-conversions-wip/ Share on other sites
Max_Dammit
A bit over the top for my taste, and the 4 fingers is a definite mutation :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218137-my-motw-conversions-wip/#findComment-2601379 Share on other sites
Growler67
Don't really see the point of the Bolter unless he's being used as a resupply mule as well. Other than that it looks like a pretty good conversion. Night Runner
A bit over the top for my taste, and the 4 fingers is a definite mutation :) I have to agree with Max, they are rather over-proportioned for my tastes, although if you're looking for that Slaine berserker kinda look, I think it works. fivepointedstar
Its a great start to a MofW model. Back in the day i used Rackham wulven models for my guys. so your not to far off. But if you have strong GS-fu you might wanna add a digit to the hands so the inquisition backs off. nice mini's by the way Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218137-my-motw-conversions-wip/#findComment-2601675 Share on other sites

Other than that it looks like a pretty good conversion. MotW does not remove a Grey Hunter's bolter and I still want the option to shoot without my opponent asking where my bolter went  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218137-my-motw-conversions-wip/#findComment-2601708 Share on other sites
Darkseer
Not my cuppa tea. I think the Inquisition would have something to say about that mutation! TiguriusX
I'm not a hobby modelist so I shouldn't be one to talk. The creativity you used to come up with it is fantastic. That being said...you obviously want the honest opinion of your wolf brothers so here you go I think the arms are fine but those hands need work. He reminds me too much of Blood Bowl. Skaven + Big Hands mutation http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jsU1yWSbDOA/Sb1X-6-Kv3I/AAAAAAAAAmE/cV8YWFuZl80/s400/big_hand.jpg I'm curious how it would look if the hands were reduced to the first digit and reshaped with GS? Besides that I have no other ideas how to change hand size If they make plastic mandrakes I want to try converting one to a Wulfen. The poses and mutating hand seem perfect http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1460485a_99110112060_DEMandrakes3_445x319.jpg Replace the CCW with a gun and paint fur....I think it is do-able Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218137-my-motw-conversions-wip/#findComment-2601971 Share on other sites
Ulfhedinn
I really appreciate all of the candid constructive criticism (special thanks to the effort TiguriusX put into his suggestions). I see four general themes when looking at what you all wrote: 1) Not appealing to reviewer’s taste – I like it and realize many may not agree 2) Arms are too large – once again I like the arms 3) Hands are too large – I didn’t really think about this but I do agree they are large; however the camera angle makes them look larger 4) That darn missing finger – this bugs me also and I really wish I was an artistic person with strong GS-fu; I’m debating if I can make a good looking weapon hand replacement as TiguriusX suggests *One other idea I had was to add dewclaws like a dog. This would not be perfect but it would be a lot easier than making an extra finger and it would not make the hand bigger than it already is. So as you can see I’ve narrowed the field of what I am capable/willing to change…please give me feedback on this. Do you think I should replace the hand with a smaller weapon hand; or add a dewclaw; or something else; or accept inquisition wrath with some sort of back-story**? **Possible back-story: When Ragnar and the 13th Company stopped the sorcerer Madox from finishing the ritual to cause all Space Wolves to succumb to the curse of the Wulfen the damage was still reversible. However some Space Wolves that have the MotW do retain an additional scar in from that ritual... tetradactyl Wulfen transformations. Although many in the Inquisition would have these tetradactyl MotW exterminated as mutants of Chaos…Logan has noted that these tetradactyl marked brethren have fought valiantly and non have succumb to Chaos. Logan is also aware that this defect can affect unit cohesion and some commanders are not comfortable going into battle with possibly tainted Wolves. This sentiment has led Logan to decree that all tetradactyl Wulfen are to be pulled from their units and assigned to a single commander, Ulfhedinn. Logan selected Ulfhedinn to accept these tetradactyl marked brethren in his company because of their already high density of this trait and the semi-acceptance among the non-affected brothers of Ulfhedinn’s company. However, Ulfhedinn’s company is monitored more closely than any of the other Space Wolf companies and they have been subject to occasional Inquisition attack. Do you like my back-story? IMO the story will look a lot better than any inartistic attempt on my part to fix the finger issue. Please feel free to recommend additions/changes to my story. Brother Tuditanus
To be honest, I always find it hard to like a model when you have to come up with a backstory that really does push the limits. Think.. the Wulfen and Space Wolves already push the =][= buttons.... Keeping guys like this around, obvious mutants beyond even the Mark, connected to a Chaos ritual as part of it... And I forsee some severe headaches that are really to large to be feasible for a player to render in his own fluff. But that's me, I prefer to work within niches in the fluff and not carve out my own. Otherwise.... It's only just too big... It could work, I think, if the legs/feet were more warped looking, or the heads not helmeted and more feral, but with *just* those arms... It draws attention to them more, and emphasizes the differences, and makes a moderate to minimal issue HUGE. Schertenleib
yes the Rat Ogre hands look big. I used Genestealer hands for mine. The important thing to remember at the end of the day is " It's your Army. Do you like it?"
