Hi Folks,

Here's my last miniature for 2010 - a web exclusive Space Marine when you bought online during a certain period. It's not a bad looking figure but it seems a little 'Disco Fever' to me. Of course, I thought that this chap would look best as a Ultramarine Veteran and here's my attempt!

It's not bad considering that I haven't picked up a brush in the past two months and it's given me the drive to get stuck in with my pile of miniatures!

Anyhow, enough of me rambling - what do you think?

I'm glad that you like!

After some feedback on another forum I've decided to change the red trim on the 'disco' marine to white so that it fits in with the fluff. Thankfully the backpack came off easily enough and I re-did the trim. Hopefully this means the miniature will fit in better when I have some more 1st company veterans completed. Here's a quick few shots to show my last two miniatures.

I always had the impression that he was directing Devastator fire rather than doin' the saturday night fever

Isn't it the same thing?

I hear the words... "ah, ah, ah, ah.. Staying alive! Staying alive!" through the vox-network as he dances through incoming fire...

which is ironic, because if he was directing plasma cannon and rocket launcher attacks, nothing would live (hopefully)

maybe he was chanting "ha, ha, ha, ha, you all gonna die, you all gonna die"

I've always hated the face on the 'charging Thunder hammer' guy. It's like he's an Astartes Python trying to swallow a heretic whole. However, in this context, it's brilliant. Swap heads with the two of them, put a disco ball as suggested where the Aquila was, and paint him as a White Scar, and you have Brother Sergeant Tony Manero

I've been in and out of this thread more than once now, and I'm not sure why I haven't left a comment yet. The model looks great, and that nostalgic RT-era sorta feel is present in the checkered pattern on his knee pad. Changing the color of the trim was a good move, as he looks more 1st Company than 3rd.

Only thing that's bugging me is that he's got the Chapter symbol on both of his shoulder pads.

x2. He should have designated veteran heraldry on his right pad instead.

And the paint seems to be chipping off of the bolter strap. Also, a blue wreath around his helm could be a nice little detail marking his veteran status in the Chapter and I'm more than confident that you can pull that off. Either way, the painting is top-notch and a model to be proud of. :)

Cheers for the comments. The right shoulderpad did need some heraldry but after a couple of attempts I went with the 'U' as the paint on the pad was starting to get a bit shoddy. I'll give the wreath a go (better practise a few times first!) as it'll be a nice touch. I see what you mean about the strap - I'm not a fan of varnishing my minatures so I'll touch up the damage later on.

Hi Folks,

I'm continuing my Ultramarines with the following Sternguard. I'm aiming to get the squad of five completed by the end of the month.

I've experimenting with my painting to start to move away from the edge highlighting on the armour towards a more blended (and hopefully) more realistic approach. I've also added a few chips to the armour and blended the white helmet so that there's a more graduated tone.

I'll upload a couple more shots tomorrow when it's daylight.

Cheers for the comment. The bolter is bent too and even a little adjustment was starting to damage the detail on the metal - that's why I've left it. Maybe this chap is such a good marksmen that he can wipe out scores of xenos even with a bent bolter! ;o)

Hi Folks,

Juet to get back on thread, here's my second Sternguard Veteran. I'm quite pleased with this one especially with the beaky helmet - the shading looks about right. The miniature's left-hand shoulder pad was a pain in the arse as I couldn't blend the white as well, but it was a learning experience. I've also continued with the chips to the armour.

Edit: I've seen that I need to add colour to the 'belt'. I'll get that sorted over the day or two.

What do you reckon? More to follow at the weekend. :P
