Hazelnut
Hi all, My son got Canis Wolfborn, 4 fenrisian wolves and a thunderwolf (mythicast) for christmas. Thing is I have no idea how they should be painted. Can anyone offer any guidance or links to tutorials etc? I found a thread by Max_Damnit, but it kept saying to overbrush and I don't know how to do that. Wondering if there were any others I've missed? Thanks. Twipp
I have used this Youtube tutorial Im a quite green player myself but i am pretty sure that overbrushing means you paint the model and make sure that the paint dont go inside a small cracks or holes. Bulweih
GW has this nice painting basics book, that really helps in the beginning and is worth having to check back on later dates, you should consider this investment brother ! For Starters, here's my approach to a Canis to Wolflord conversion for the painting challenge earlier this year: I wanted to make the wolf look more like a blackmane than the husky like interpretation of the 'eavy metal team, which is on the cover of the canis box. Overbrushing is similar to drybrushing. OB: You wet your brush a little and take some paint on it. You now gently move the brush over a napkin or the like, to the point when there's only so much halfdried paint on the brush. Now brush over the elevated parts o the modell. This is used to lighten up the fur I guess... You usually do this with a lighter/brighter colour than the basecolour. For Drybrushing you best use an old brush, dip into the paint without wetting the brush before, scrub the brush over a napkin or towel so that only little dry paint remains on the brush, then brush over the model. This gives a sandy/dusty finish. Hope this helps, get the book, they can explain better and provide pics and step by step tuts. The Son of Russ
I painted my thunderwolf (canis model) black, with dark grey highlights for a drybrush. I did this to make Fangir stand out, him being black is a stark contrast to the winter snowland, which makes him easily identifiable by prey, but this also represents fangir's ferocity, speed and cunning as a hunter to inspire fear into enemies due to his easily identifiable frame. His skin is a blueish/greyish, a note to his coat. Thunderwolves, i would paint white, a creamy base for the fur and a dusty white for the drybrush highlight, skin would be greyish/whitish, make sure there is a contrast to fur and pelt. This goes for fenrisian wolves aswell. Did you use wargs as the fenrisian wolves? they make brilliant fenrisian wolves. Nice canis btw Bulweih! Hazelnut
Thank you all for the replies, the youtube link was especially helpful. The four fenrisian wolves are now done, and some of the wolf furs on the GH's are now black/grey/white rather than the old brown style we were using. Looks great! All we have to do now is figure out how to fit them into a 600 point army without it becoming weak... I'm thinking either Iron Wolf on Thunderwolf with 4 Cyber-wolves, or a WLBL on TW (or Canis if he insists) aswell as a Lone Wolf in TDA both with 2 Fenrisian wolves. Whatever the DP with the 5 WG termis will have to go.
