Capt. Kenaz
I am currently working on a wolf wing type army for fun; I love building termies! I plan on having of course, Grimnar, a rune priest and maybe a wolf priest, but what is your favorite, or most successful loadout for a WG terminator squad? With 9 slots or so, I can have a few with cyclone, assualt cannons, and hvy. flamers, but what do the rest of your non-special weapon termies carry? Starkhan Fellblade
I am currently working on a wolf wing type army for fun; I love building termies! With 9 slots or so, I can have a few with cyclone, assualt cannons, and hvy. flamers, but what do the rest of your non-special weapon termies carry? Generally you will want 1 storm shield per squad to guard against las cannons and railguns. For the rest of them take some wolf claws, chainfists, and frost weapons and maybe even a thunder hammer. Also give combi weapons whenever possible they help a lot.Use combi-meltas or plasmas. As for the wolf priest and rune priests spread them around the wolf priests buff thier squad and the rune priests are good with ether offensive or defensive powers. Hope i could help Starkhan Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218201-wolf-guard-teminator-pack/#findComment-2602206 Share on other sites
S. Bloodhowl
Just now I run a squad with: -1 thunder hammer and storm shield, -1 chainfist and storm bolter, -1 duel wolf claws, -1 wolf claw and storm shield, -1 power fist and assault cannon. I deploy them with my Wolf Lord (except the assault cannon who joins some grey hunters) and drop pod them in. They work well against most things too. By the way, you can only have 6 units of Wolf Guard in a Logan Wing army: Logan makes them count as troops, hence they are no longer elites. I think it says something like that in the FAQ. Wolf Guard Nostromo
My current favourite packs of 5 are: 3 x Combi melta/wolf claw 2 x Storm bolter/powerfist (Deployed by pod to take on enemy armour/support) ...and... 2 x storm bolter/wolf claw 2 x storm bolter/powerfist 1 x Assault cannon/power weapon Great at 24" range and able to mix it up close and personal without getting too expensive. Key is not to make them too expensive - I must admit I barely ever use storm shields with them at all any more (which is sad as it leaves alot gathering dust on the shelf) as the pay-off just never seems worth it mainly because it clearly wastes their valuable 5++ save. This relies on keeping them cheap however, or you are just leaving major investments exposed. Nos. Freman Bloodglaive
10 men, two cyclone launchers and wolf claw, one storm bolter and power fist, one storm bolter and chain fist, five storm bolter and wolf claw, one storm bolter and power weapon. 450 points. For extreme cheapness. Cyclone, power fist, four with power weapon and storm bolter. 205 points. nurglez
i usually run 2 of mine at about 230 points or so. cyclonestorm shield (replaces the power weapon:D) combi melta power wep powerfist storm bolter wolf claw storm bolter then 1 squad with 2 combi melta wolf claws, combi plasma powerfist, stormshield with storm bolter and cyclone and 1 more squad like the cheaper ones but with an ass cannon instead and an extra combi melta (which logan or a rune priest generally hide in). I have 2 drop pods and 1 more being assembled. I'd like to put more combi weapons/claws in the squads, spread them around a bit, but dont have the points at the mo, once I put together the 3rd pod I will have to change my army slightly (losing a lone wolf)and it will gain a few more toys then :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218201-wolf-guard-teminator-pack/#findComment-2602490 Share on other sites
Valerian
I've made my WGTDA pack (only 1, since it's a non-Loganwing army) like this: 1x Heavy Flamer and Chain Fist 1x Combi-Plasma and Power Weapon 1x Combi-Plasma and Wolf Claw 1x Storm Shield and Wolf Claw 1x Cyclone Missile Launcher, Storm Bolter and Chain Fist Here is the theory: The CML model will be used as a Wolf Guard Leader for another Pack, so he isn't really a part of the equation. The CML is magnetized, so if I don't have a full unit of 10 Wolf Guard models (allowing the 2 Terminator Heavy Weapons) I can just keep it off. The remaining 4 Wolf Guard in TDA are the packmates for my Wolf Lord, Ragnar Blackmane, and will deploy with him in a standard Land Raider Phobos. Upon deployment, between the Heavy Flamer template, 4x Plasma Shots, and Ragnar's Bolt Pistol, I can do pretty good damage to about any enemy unit, including other Terminators, prior to the Charge. Ragnar gets 6-8 Frostblade attacks at Strength 6 and at Initiative 6, followed by the 6-10x Strength 5 Wolf Claw and 3-5x Strength 5 Power Weapon Attacks at Initiative 5. If any of the enemy are left alive at this point, then the guy with the Power Weapon is my "Redshirt" and as the cheapest model he will get assigned the first hits that still allow an Armor Save. The Guy with the Wolf Claw is next in line, as the second cheapest model. Any return hits that ignore Armor Saves get allocated to the model with the Storm Shield and Wolf Claw, who has the best chance of surviving and preventing the loss of one of the other TDA models. It he dies, however, he still isn't overly expensive, and won't be too much of a problem. Lastly, the model with the Heavy Flamer and Chain Fist gets to attack at Initiative 1, with 3-5x Strength 9 Attacks to clean up any remaining models that weren't killed at the earlier Initiative steps. If I feel like Deep Striking the unit with a Drop Pod, instead of using the Land Raider I can do that too, but risk the very likely possibility of getting Charged, instead of getting to Charge when and where I want. I can also leave Ragnar out, and use these guys to accompany a Wolf Priest, or add the CML, Storm Bolter, Chain Fist model back in and just use them as a pack of 5 with no IC. There is a lot of versatility and flexibility in this build. They are fairly expensive, but they can do a lot of damage, all on their own.
