Death Sentinels - Black Legion WIP

Pegasus

Recommended Posts

Greetings brethren, daemons, spawn and the lackeys of the false emperor. This army was started several eons ago, back in Codex 3 of the Chaos Space Marines. With the new codex out, I found that I was able to build a list that didn't deviate too much from the original list and, even better, meant I wouldn't have to buy much more to complete the army.

Note: this army is meant for gaming, not winning a Golden Demon, hence I'm going for simplicity and using metallic paints for golds, silvers, etc.

There is fluff for this particular army, the main gist being that the original leader was highly regarded by Abaddon in the aftermath of the Horus Heresy until was framed by Fabius Bile. Now on the run from both the Black Legion and other traitor legions, as well as the Imperium and various xenos war hordes, they survive in the same style as the Red Corsairs, as pirates and mercenaries. Unlike the Corsairs, however, the Death Sentinels have never forgotten their origins and continue to fight for the same goals as they always have: the death of the Imperium and the false emperor.

There will be some changes to what you see in these pics, plus I'll be asking for C&C on painting as well as your opinions on what I should do with various things. More on that later. On to the pics!

Maximus, the leader of the Death Sentinels. He carries a daemon weapon and is clad in terminator armour. In his left hand, he'll be holding chains, upon which he will have the skulls and helms of enemies he's slain impaled on hooks. Basically: he's bad-arse. ;)

The Predator "Chompy" and the Rhino that will carry Squad I "Slicus n Dicus"

The stripes on the rear panels will be redone 'properly'.

Oblits, still WIP. The left one is still too pink, obviously the right one is still too black and the middle one is in need of a few touch ups.

One of the Aspiring Champions. This one's my favourite because of his pose, being much more dynamic than the usual GW poses.

Still missing his power fist, obviously.

C&C is not only welcomed, but wanted! Let me know what needs fixing, what looks great, what you want to see more of! Also, keep in mind, many of these paint jobs are several years old and will likely be redone, or at least improved.

Many thanks in advance. Death to the false emperor!!

Cheers,

John

Seems like the Chaos Lord's black is really really shiny. Is that still primer, or is that the black you're going with? It kind of contrasts with the matte black of the tanks and other troops.

I like your conversion work though, daemon-weapon looks coooool!

Love the rhino and predator, when the stripes are straghtened up a bit they'll look sweet. In my opinion I think you should go with the black and red theme for the whole army, simple but effective. You'll have em painted in no time

Thanks for the replies, brethren!

@Captain Mick: thanks, yes there's lots to do. These photos show the army as it is right now, and I'll be concentrating a lot on individual minis from here on in, to not spread myself too thin. I've got about 2 1/2 squads of regular marines, plus 4 termies in various states of build/paint, but will most likely be restarting painting on them.

@phairsto: thanks :P Both swords come from the Chaos Knights box. The black is just Chaos Black, for the cloak and such. His armour is Tamiya X-1, which is gloss black. The lord, all the terminators and maybe the aspiring champions will have gloss black armour to show their experience and martial prowess, the rest will be clad in flat black.

@tyrannosaurus: thanks mate :) I've done modelling in 1/35 of various tanks and such before, so vehicles are kind of my 'specialty' you might say. I'm planning to have most of the army follow a black/red theme with either silver or gold highlights, depending on rank. The troops will have one red pauldron, which will be part of the army's fluff.

@chaplain belisarius: thanks for your comments :)

Question for you brethren: I'm considering changing the daemon weapon blade so that it's forked at both ends. This would require a slight rebuilding, mostly wire and some greenstuff work. Would it be worth it? Would it work? I went for that sword on there now because of the 'face' that you can see on it.

Also: what in your opinion should be done with the lord's cloak? I don't want a huge expanse of black nothingness, so considering a chaos star? Or maybe something similar? Or completely different? Your opinions?

Hopefully, I'll get some work done and an update done before returning to work this coming tuesday ^_^

Cheers,

John

Update! <_<

Squad 1 is coming along, just need to get down to GW and buy another box of marines to get their bolter pistol arms (and also get some silver paint).

Rhino and Predator have had their trophy racks mostly finished, plus a few other bits and bobs painted.

Some work has been done on the 2 'less finished' oblits, I'm trialling a system where I build up the flesh tones from browns to skin/flesh, with plenty of washes. Really just winging it and seeing what works.

I'll get some pics of them soon.

Thanks for viewing!

C&C appreciated as always!

Cheers,

John
