Drop Pod Terminator squad with 2 Heavy Weapons

Recommended Posts

Because of the Wolf Guard Pack Leader rule, it is possible to get a 10 man WG squad down to 5. Lead a few packs of Grey Hunters, "lead" aka become the human shield for a couple of Long Fangs squads, and you are down to 5 remaining Wolf Guard, who could all be dressed up in Terminator armor, with two of them carrying heavy weapons. Which means us Space Wolves can drop pod termies in with two Heavy Flamers, or two Assault Cannons or what have you.

Does anyone do this, and what ar eyou thoughts on this strategy?

Yeah, I'm currently running this, in the pod is a lord with runic armour TH/SS, 4 terminator WG, 1 TH/SS, 1 Ass Cannon/PFist, 1 Ass Cannon/wolf claw, 1 combi melta/wolf claw and 1 WG in power armour with combi melta/wolfclaw (obviously there are 5 other WG in the list).

The reason i decided to go for two was just so i could get a decent bit of fire power out of a relatively small squad, i've only played a few games with it so far, it seems to be working out fine at the minute. i also drop another pod along side them with a rune priest and tooled up grey hunter squad.

main problem with this, is that you need to have either 5 other squads to attach your wg too, or you have to take some in power armour so you can fit the 2 heavy weapons in the pod after attaching at least 2 wg to other squads. and I run pure terminators so I dont have any wg in power armour, and I dont have any squads to attach wg too.

I am toying with the idea of running mixed armour squads, so 10wg, with 2 in terminator armour equipped with cyclones, but I'm focusing on getting my terminators sorted and fine tuned first...

I run 5 Terminators in a Drop Pod with two Power Fists, a Storm Shield and two Cyclone Launchers as part of a Drop Pod army. I use them in conjunction with two squads of Long Fangs and a Living Lightning Rune Priest to dissuade my opponent from reserving his list (If he reserves, I drop the Terminators in a defensive position to support the already-deployed Long Fangs and the first few units to arrive piecemeal receive a welcome of 14 Krak Missles).

If my opponent deploys normally, I don't drop my Terminators on turn 1; I use three squads of Grey Hunters in Drop Pods for their "in-your-face-melta" style! The Terminators usually drop later to support whichever Grey Hunter pack needs it most.

Because I use the Terminators as a longer-ranged unit, I force my opponent to choose between the Grey Hunters who can score but have little range, or the non-scoring Terminators who are content to stand-off at a distance and throw Krak Missiles and Storm Bolter rounds at infantry or light vehicles.

Though I find the unit to be effective, I should point out that I'm somewhat in love with Terminators!
