ringlancer
Hi folks, newbie to the board, old time 40k player (rather, fluff reader and collector...I haven't actually played since second edition!) Getting back into playing after a long absence, and I am in the process of creating a space marine force (among others). I don't like to do things straight out of the box, so I want to create my own chapter. Some thoughts that will guide what I do.... I already have about 100 marine figures, and it breaks down to about six tac squads, two assault squads and two devastator squads. I also have a five man scout squad and a five man terminator squad. i have three rhinos, one land raider crusader, the AoBR Dreadnought, an attack bike with a multi-melta and a currently unarmed landspeeder I need to refurbish. I am fond of Medieval Europe and chivalric culture. I have some Bretonnian Knight models and bitz I would like to incorperate, but it is not mandatory. (Would love to use mounted space marine knights on horses/mechanical horses instead of bikes) While I don't want to run a straight Imperial/Crimson Fists or Black Templar army, I am kind of drawn to the Dornian line. I like the idea of crusades, or a squire/young knight going out on errantry, trying to prove himself...it would be good to incorporate something like that into the fluff of the chapter. I am not looking for my chapter to claim to be the be all and end all of all space marines...I hate when people claim their fluff is fluffier than official fluff. I am aesthetically drawn to melta weapons and medieval weapons...swords, maces, lances etc. I like sergeants to have power fists...tactically maybe a hold over from my rogue trader days, I dunno. Just like it. I also like the look of beakie marines. I like chaplains, not into librarians. I hate vampires and werewolves of any stripe. Even ones in power armor. I like fanatacism in my marines. How do I post the picture I made on the marine painter to show my colors? Any thoughts or criticisms that you have so far would be appreciated. Thank you! soddinnutter
If you like fanaticism and holy wars and warrior preachers and knightly orders then And this is just an idea mind you so feel free to throw it out the nearest air-lock... Space Marines that believe in the Emperor as an actual god. Space Marines whose chapter cult has been brought into line with that of the mainstream Imperial Cult of the Emperor Deified. Like the Adeptus Astartes version of the Adepta Sororitas, with whom they mag go to war alongside. A fleet based chapter of the Children of Dorn who took one look at the Black Templar chapter and screamed "YOUR NOT INSANE ENOUGH!" The sort of Dornian chapter that got invited to the Feast of Blades once and was promptly banned and never invited ever again, ever. For any reason. They could recruit from the Ophillia System and surrounding protectorate. If they predate the Age of Aposty they may have been involved with the Fraternis Templars. ringlancer
I do like the look of the Redemptionists from Necromunda and the cool figures from the witchhunters stuff... But I don't want my look to be quite so gritty. My figures are going to be clean...no mud or battle damage, and that fits into the fluff of maintaining armor like a knight would, not going into battle shabby. Hmmm. Thank you for your suggestions. Keep them coming. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218518-avenging-fists/#findComment-2605741 Share on other sites

Brother Claudius
Nice color scheme. What about a fist clutching a sword or mace? I would stay away from the Emperor's Fists -- sounds too similar to Imperial Fists. Just an opinion. ringlancer
I'm thinking that as far as historical foes, this chapter usually fights orks, eldar, renegade guard or marines/chaos, and recently tyranids. As far as age of the chapter, I'm thinking something "middle-aged"...not oldest, but not wet behind the ears either. Chapter origin, I'm thinking of a medieval world, maybe with feral orks. Orks with tech come and up the ante. Native humans fight best as they can but are next to helpless against ork "advanced" tech. When all seems lost, marines of fist heritage come to aid of planet. Impressed by the resistance and warrior culture of native population, a new chapter is formed. However, rescuing fist chapter are seen as prophets of the God Emperor and new chapter worships Emperor with religious zeal. I am also open to the threat being from Chaos rather than orks. Thoughts? soddinnutter
If you like the style of the Redemptionists of Necromunda then go for masses of Flame, Melta and Plasma based weapons. Easily do able with a bit of green stuff for material and a couple of stripped wires for sculpting tools. Because Kill It With Fire is the most emphatic way to Unwant something. A clenched fist on a fiery background? Name = Legio Divinus An explanation for their sheer brain bending fanaticism and devotion to the Imperial Cult could be that their chapter was one of the first, if not the first, to side with Sebastian Thor when he organised a crusade to kill Vandire and reconsecrate Terra. They may never have gotten over this event and just keep on going like Inquisitor Thor was still giving them orders. ringlancer
Sleeping on it, I don't want them associated withthe Sisters or the Eccleisiarchy. They are Space Marines. They exsist to kill. They take out their rightuos fury on those who would taint the realm of the most Holy Emperor, the god that breathes and walks. I'm thinking that Grindelor was a world that had been seperated from the Imperium for a long, long period of time, where tech was completely lost and life resorted to a medieval exsistance. Memories of the Emperor lingered, however, but became twisted and morphed. The Second Coming was awaited with religious fervor. A warrior culture had developed as kingdom fought kingdom. These petty squabbles vanished with the rise of a common foe, the orks. The orks gave no concern to kingdom or clan and assaulted all equally. The kings of Grindelor united forces to fight the greenskins on all fronts. This was a common theme for centuries as war wracked Grindelor, with both humans and orks getting tougher and stronger fighting a worthy foe. The situation changed when the White Fangz Snakebites arrived on the Rok, Da Foot of Gork , which had been mostly destroyed in space by an Imperial Fleet. The Rok was mostly nonfunctional when it fell into the gravitational pull of Grindelor. When the Rok crashed into the planet's surface, almost all of the orks aboard died, but a handful lived, including a Snakebite mekboy. The Snakebites liked the feral ork kulture they found, and after defeating the local warlord, the remaining Snakebites took control. The handful of Snakebites with their few shootas started to turn the tide against the humans. The lone mekbow was working furiously to create weapons as best he could from the indigenous materials and scrap from the rok, his genetic coding giving him innate knowledge for this. Even in the face of an adversary with superior weaponry, the humans of Grindelor fought on with fervor and superior tactics. One of the kings, Bertrand of Arden, even obtained one of the precious ork shootas and a powered choppa chainsword for himself, although they were used only in the most dire of circumstances because the humans lacked the ability to replicate the ammunition or fuel. Despite these advances, the population of Grindelor was doomed...something was stirring amongst the orks, and it was like a beacon calling more orks to Grindelor. Warboss Gruk Snaggob of the White Fangz arrived with his retinue and a small warband. This small force devastated the southern Kingdom of Caladria. Gruk crushed the king in his mighty power klaw and set up residence in the king's castle, enslaving the local population and plundering the countryside. Gruk was establishing a strong foothold to use as a base of operations for the continued conquest of Grindelor. Still the humans of Grindelor resisted. Many were those that died, but even the peasants of Grindelor would rather resist and die than serve the greenskins. However, the outcomes on the battlefield turned ever more in the direction of the orks. King Bertrand of Arden, he who had obtained the ork wargear, was defending his castle from attack. His personal retinue had suffered great casualties, his shoota had run out of ammunition and he was hip deep in greenskin corpses as he wielded the choppa with desperate fury. The ground shuddered and a huge hole tore through the castle wall, as a lumbering creature came into view. The mek had finally created a Deff Dread from the wreckage of the Rok. Filled with despair at the sight of the metal monstrosity, the King cried to the heavens for aid and rescue. As if in answer to the anguished prayer, two drop pods from the Imperial Fists landed in the courtyard of King Bertrand's castle. NightrawenII
[rant] *I know I'm going to get flak for this, but it has to be said and done.* Now, look man. This is not blog, when you post everything you have on the mind. You have already three triple-posts(or rather one triple- and two quad-posts), where you could just edit one of the previous posts. The EDIT button is here for reason. [/rant] Next, the best way how to make a Index Astartes is to write a simple outline with *important* points in each section. If you don't know what sections I'm talking about, then these are: Origins Homeworld Belief Organisation Combat Doctrine Battle Cry These more or less define the nature of your chapter. For more info look here or here. What you have here right now is rather lenghty story, with low to zero relevance to you Chapter. soddinnutter
NightrawenII has just given us all a lovely example of what happens when you wake up a Dreadnaught from its slumber. Now you know why Bjorn the Fellhanded spends so much time in hibernation. Origin story looking good so far.
