Neth_Oni
With the arrival of the 2nd-6th mk power armour sets from forgeworld I got really interested in making a pre-heresy themed army and have now decided to go for Thousand sons. My first attempt at painting one came out to be really bad however and had me more or less throw the idea away. After some time I decided to try again but was once again not pleased (although I think it was a lot better than the first one). Now, after quite some time, again I decided to try and I think I pretty much got it this time around and I'll try got at least 1000pts painted before summer. The first attempt: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/DSC00068.jpg The second attempt: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/DSC00070.jpg The third attempt and another one in the same painting scheme: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/DSC00096.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/DSC00097.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218608-pre-heresy-thousand-sons-blog/ Share on other sites

MagicMan
Those look awesome. Are you gonna ''Egypt-ify'' them? Or just leave them as is? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218608-pre-heresy-thousand-sons-blog/#findComment-2606584 Share on other sites
Neth_Oni
Thanks guys ;) I'm only going to "egyptify" them a little, using the scimitars from the tomb kings from fantasy for my power sword and such but not much more. Here's a wip pic of my Librarian Dreadnought and how I'm going to represent the force weapon on him. It's not finnished yet, I'll get some decoration of some sort around the base of the sword and there's still much to do when it comes to the painting of it, but I think you'll see were its heading at least ^^ http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/DSC00098.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218608-pre-heresy-thousand-sons-blog/#findComment-2606599 Share on other sites

Cyrox
I think the red is spot on, the look great Add some Jade green bits on there too, that would be awesome Nice work Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218608-pre-heresy-thousand-sons-blog/#findComment-2607151 Share on other sites
Durfast Spiritwolf
Very nice - you might want to check out maxmini as they do a helmet that is ideal for pre-heresy TS Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218608-pre-heresy-thousand-sons-blog/#findComment-2607169 Share on other sites
Neth_Oni
Thanks :) I've seen the heads from maxmini but I love the mk3 ones so I'll stick with them. And I'll be painting plasma coils and power cables a glowing, bright green but I can't really find any suitable gem-like areas on them that I can paint jade green. I'm thinking of using green stuff to create som gems on them though Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218608-pre-heresy-thousand-sons-blog/#findComment-2607403 Share on other sites
Xavier Targhost
Sweet and looking great there mate ;) Though id suggest that you have one of them Uchabti greater weapons on the dreadnought :) for the more "right" Thousand sons fealing :) maby use them on futur therminators too? Cheers on a good work! Love the one above the Sgt.. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218608-pre-heresy-thousand-sons-blog/#findComment-2607455 Share on other sites
Neth_Oni
Have been rather busy painting, for once, and have now "finnished" another 3 marines. So here's a group pic, also showing you the legion- and squadmarkings: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/DSC00100.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218608-pre-heresy-thousand-sons-blog/#findComment-2608114 Share on other sites
Marshal Traben
MaxMini's just released a Khopesh weapon set. They would add more to the Egyptian feel of your Thousand Sons. kapturowski
The squad looks very nice. I like the red/gold. I think you could add something to the Dread where the Power Sword is connected to the arm, I think it locks a bit "tacked" on atm. Perhaps some powercables or something similar? DarKHaZZ13
for the dread I woulda used the GK dreads force weapon arm tbh Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218608-pre-heresy-thousand-sons-blog/#findComment-2608481 Share on other sites
Neth_Oni
I know the force weapon solution is not the best, but I'm working on improving it at least a little. But what's the grey knight dred force weapon? Never seen or herd of before, any links or pics? I'm now more or less done with my first librarian (or sorcerer). It's got an hand flamer, just because it was cool and I wanted to try and make one. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/DSC00101.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218608-pre-heresy-thousand-sons-blog/#findComment-2608767 Share on other sites
Marshall_Brant
Nice. May I suggest using the DA Vet robe leg/torsos for your sorcerers'? IIRC the sons' Sorcerers' wore robes, so ya. Maybe throw in the rubric marine parts as well. Overall quite an awesome look you got going. But what's the grey knight dred force weapon? Never seen or herd of before, any links or pics? :) Its on the Forgeworld site. So far your stuff looks good! Only thing to me that is an issue, and it could just be my eyes or a camera tricking me, is that the armor seems more.... uh... Magenta then red. In any case, I am enjoying this so far <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218608-pre-heresy-thousand-sons-blog/#findComment-2608925 Share on other sites
Neth_Oni
No, it's definitly red. However, all web browsers, operating systems and so on handles colors differently and some colors just isn't so-called "safe" colors and can be seen as quite another color with some browsers. Neth_Oni
I finally got my hands on the color I was missing (scorpion green) to finnish the infantry. Instead of re-taking pics of them all I'll just show what I did on one of them, though it's the same with the rest as well as the sergeant's plasma pistol: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/DSC00104.jpg And now my librarian dread is almost finnished, what's left to truly focusing on with him is making the base more interesting: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/DSC00103.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218608-pre-heresy-thousand-sons-blog/#findComment-2614983 Share on other sites

Neth_Oni
yeh, I saw them. Now I'm just waiting for the local store to be able to order them. :D If they are nice I'll probably exchange all the regular swords for those Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218608-pre-heresy-thousand-sons-blog/#findComment-2617109 Share on other sites
Neth_Oni
It so happens now that my economy is a bit uncertain for the coming months so I'm not going to buy any more models for this army until I know I can afford it, however I do have enough mk3 marines for a full second squad, a dreadnought and one drop pod so I still have stuff to paint  And speaking of full squads, I'm now almost done with the first squad. What remains to be done is some weathering, source lighting and the stripes on the chain-bayonettes and once that is done I can consider my first squad ready for battle ^_^ A pic of the 5 new additions to the army: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kin29rob/DSC00106.jpg c&c welcome, as always :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218608-pre-heresy-thousand-sons-blog/#findComment-2622828 Share on other sites

Neth_Oni
thanks :) If I'm not too slow with the document I'm working on for the school I'll probably be able to finnish the second dread (wich unfortunatly is a mk5 or something like that so it's too new for heresy but that'll have to do for now) and a drop pod before next week.
