It's Expansion Time in the League!

Recommended Posts

Well it's that time of the month, time to add another 300 points for our expansion league, or in my case 340 and I am stuck.

I know that I want to include Wolf Guard in the Hunters and Claws, expand the Fangs to 6, but where I am getting tripped up is do I want to go for a semi expensive scout unit, one that has worked wonders in past editions, or do I want to go for a Land Speeder Tempest with MM and a Razorback for the Fangs?

This is where I am stuck at the moment...not to mention that if I do go for the Speeder I loose a Wolf Guard and have to drop them too, or keep them as a separate unit which isn't a good idea. I could always stick with 5 Fangs and throw the 3rd Guard in the Fangs to bump up their numbers.

I hate having to decide.

I would say it comes down to personal preference.

My Long Fangs never leave the Fang without a Razorback. I cant count the times this has helped me a lot, especially in Dawn of War games.

On the other side, Land Speeder Tempest can be extremely useful. I personally don't like them, but a Blood Angels player here uses one to great effect.

Being able to move 12" and fire 2 missiles or to move 24" to get into a better position can be very valuable.

What would you equip your Razorback with?

I use TL-las cannons if I want some more long-range fire power, a heavy bolter to be cheap or assault cannon for short-range fire power to hunt MCs, tough infantry and light vehicles.

My list is as follows

Njal Stormsson The Stormcaller

Hiemdal Grim Eyes Wolf Priest with Wolf Tooth Necklace

8 Blood Claws with a Flamer and Power Fist in a Rhino

8 Grey Hunters with a Melta Gun and Power Fist in a Rhino

5 Long Fangs with 3 Missile Launchers and a Lascannon

One thing to remember is that when you loose games you get an extra 20 points per loss so I am sitting at 1180 at the moment. I may even go up to 1200 points before the next round.

I want to add Pack Leaders with decent weaponry to be able to allow the PF to do some clean up work but this is what I am looking at expanding to

Njal

Hiemdal

Wolf Guard Pack

Blood Claws Leader Bolt Pistol and Frost Axe

Grey Hunters Leader Twin Wolf Claws

Long Fangs TDA with Cyclone

8 Blood Claws with Flamer and Power Fist in Rhino

8 Grey Hunters with Melta Gun and Power Fist in Rhino

Typhoon Land Speeder with Multi Melta

6 Long Fangs with 2 Lascannons and 3 Missile Launchers

I think it feels a little top heavy, like I am missing out on troop choices, But that is going to be my next expansion I am trying to save up for a Land Raider Crusader with a compliment of Blood Claws with Hiemdal and then add in another unit of Claws with Lukas the Trickster. Hey I am just having fun adding in stuff that looks cool. I know that if I wanted to be competitive I wouldn't have any Claws, only Hunters and I would be packing 2 Rune Priests, but that doesn't quite FEEL right to me.

I love Scouts. Small tankhunting squads, large melee squads, sniper squads (I actually don't really use these, but some people 'round these parts swear by them), they do it all. Their extra access to Power Weapons and their ability to be wherever you need them to be makes them an invaluable part of every list I run.

AHHH!! Well I have 1180 points to play with, finalized that with a draw today... also finalized my next list with a Land Speeder....when did they start costing 30 bucks for that little plastic? I remember when they were 40 bucks and you could knock out somebody's front teeth with one... but plastic really?

And there lies my debate Stormshrug. I know that there is starting to be an abundance of units that prefer to hide in the back and wait for their opportunity, which the Wolf Scouts depriving them of life deprive them of the opportunity as well...I guess that I will have to wait on them while I do some playing around.

It's not clear from your list, but how many Wolf Guards are you planning to get? If it is only the 3 you listed, you can't have a heavy weapon with them (only one heavy for 5 WG). If you are planning for 5, where are the two remaining ones going?

What happened to the ruling that said you rounded up? I was under the understanding that if you have less than five you can still purchase your weapon, it was once that you reached more than five you needed to bump up to 10

The wording in the codex is:

For every five models in the squad, one WG model in TDA may choose one of the following:

It is generally accepted that this means you need 5 models for a heavy weapon and you are not allowed to round up

I wish it was different, too. I'm usually using two packs of 4 WG terminators with a heavy weapon each. Which means I have to buy and detach a WG each.
