Kingin
Hey all I was wondering yesterday, its been thousands of years since the fall, I know its a big galaxy, but how many are there? Is there a lot left? few left? and also do they get more or when one dies thats it? just some thoughts I know the last question is properly a no they don't get more, cause then they be CHaos Marines. But if their is a network of fallen they should be able to get more. I'm just trying to figure out, for some fluff for my army's captain. thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218693-how-many-fallen-left/ Share on other sites
Wayward
After the Heresy and the destruction of Caliban, three successors chapters were founded, so the surviving legio was roughly 4000 brothers. IIRC from the HH books, there were roughly half legio stationed on Caliban, so, at least, we're talking about 4000 Marines. How much of these survived the destruction of Caliban, I cant tell. But there shouldnt be more than 4000 fallens out there, if my calculations are correct. Anyway, the Fallen were scattered trhough space and TIME, so, no matter the number, there may be fallen everywhere, anytime :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218693-how-many-fallen-left/#findComment-2607440 Share on other sites
Brother Styphus
Just flipped through the prologue of Fallen Angels, and the initial DA count on Caliban was more than five hundred. From the time between being sent home and the end of that book, they had 50 years to recruit more marines, with a process that was streamlined so well they cut the training and gene-transplant time down. Whatever the number is, they haven't lost that many of the years up to the current 40k time period. The greatest number to captured fallen so far is 12 according to a codex blurb. BrotherHostower
The number is less than 150 left (something like 143), it was a codex blurb (IIRC), might have been the 2nd edition Angels of Death codex had it... could have been in the Deathwing short stories book too, my memory's shot lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218693-how-many-fallen-left/#findComment-2607646 Share on other sites

DAG42
But remember Cypher and some of the Fallen have stolen gene seed from those outposts the DA keep. It was in Angels of Darkness I believe. I think your referring to the bit about black pearls being awarded to chaplains that are able to break a fallen and have them "confess" prior to being put to death. The fallen are so stubborn however the greatest number of pearls ever awarded was 10 and that was to a long since dead IC Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218693-how-many-fallen-left/#findComment-2607709 Share on other sites
LardO'Blood
Angels of Darkness says that there were 136 fallen. I am pretty sure that excludes Luther and Astelan (The Fallen Dark Angel that is one of the centerpieces of the book). Frater Uriah
The worst part of the quest to eradicate the Fallen is that no one knows how many are left. I think that the 136 that LardO'Blood is talking about are the signatories who signed the document that established their sedition from the Dark Angels Legion on Caliban during the Fall. Those 136-or-so were officers of the Legion, Masters, Librarians, etc., and these are the named ones that the Dark Angels are primarily focussed on. You could concieve that, given the nature of the signatories, whole Chapters of Fallen Dark Angels exist, somewhere... at least, one could imagine this would be one worst of the fears of the Unforgiven. The 12 that Brother Styphus mentioned are the total number made to repent their sins by Interrogator-Chaplain Molochia, to date the most successful of the Dark Angels' Interrogator-Chaplains (even venerable old Asmodai has only two black pears on his Rosarius). Others have repented their sins as well, and those who are captured and do not repent are apparently imprisoned deep in the bowels of the Rock for eternity, so we don't even know how many have been captured, let alone killed. It does seem accurate that the Fallen perpetuate themselves by stealing Loyalist Dark Angel geneseed, as we saw in Angels of Darkness. Insult to injury, but it also means that the number of Fallen Dark Angels would not necessarily diminish or even remain static: the quest to redeem the Fallen is a quest with no end. Anyway, the Fallen were scattered trhough space and TIME, so, no matter the number, there may be fallen everywhere, anytime ;) I believe that you must calculate a little higher. It seems that the Dark Angel Legion consists of more than 23000 Space Marines, since every Chapter contains about 1000 Marines and Astelan talks from his "Mirror-Chapter" the 23rd under Commander Mentheus in Angels of Darkness. And there may have been many more, because nothing proves that the 23rd is the one with the highest number of all Chapters within the Legion. Just my 2 cents. But whatever the calculations may discover: How many Fallen are left? Too many. Thats the right answer! Brother dean
How many Fallen are left? Too many. He speaks the truth... The number of unaccounted for members of the Dark Angels is somewhere in the Thousands between the confusion over loyalties in the first place, the storming of the planet and the subsequent Warp Storm sucking traitor and Loyalists both away.... Loyalists at this point are guilty by association as well... How many chapters dropped on the planet? How well were the defences constructed? How many were actually dead when the warp storm rolled around? Remember we had an entire Assault CHAPTER in Terminator armor who never decamped their ship due to being late. HsojVvad
Don't forget a few thousand were sent to the future as well. So the year 50 000, there is Fallen that we in the 40 000 don't even know about. Also you would have some that were in the year 20 000 or even before that, say 2011. They would be dead by now. It would be interesting if DA did time traveling to find those in the future and past. Octavulg
Assume a 200 year career for a Chaplain, on average. Assume they capture four Fallen each, on average. It has been almost exactly 10,000 years since the Hunt began, so about 50 cycles of Chaplains have moved through the DA. There are probably no more than 5 Interrogator Chaplains at any one time. So you have fifty cycles at four Fallen each with five ICs per cycle... So maybe a thousand Fallen have been captured? And I could easily see that number being lower. Assuming the DA and the Fallen took roughly equal casualties in the battle for Caliban, that would leave the Fallen with about two to four thousand members still at large. Of course, casualties may well have been higher. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218693-how-many-fallen-left/#findComment-2631365 Share on other sites
Firepower
Something I've never understood about this part of DA fluff... Practically every time you read about the destruction of Caliban and the scattering of the Fallen, it mentions the way the Warp bends space and time. Now, the idea that the Warp is not limited by the constraint of time makes perfect sense, but what I don't get is why the Fallen only go forward in time. Wouldn't the best place to hide the Fallen have been before anyone was even looking for them? HsojVvad
It all depends on how far back in time? Too far back and they are dead from old age, be it 100 or 500 years. (Yeah I know 500 is pushing it.) So unless they have followers that keep up with ther tradition, something like a Sith Lord and his Apprentice, no use looking for them in the past. Even if they do live to an old age, if they are in the past, then they can be caught in 40 001. (I forget the current year is in 40K) So the best place to hide a Fallen is in the future, since nobody can hunt them in 40 0001 if they are hiding in 50 001. Then again, that is 10 000 years for the DA to hone their skill. Then again, not much seems have changed in 10 000 years from 30 000 to 40 000, so I guess it would be quite easy to hide in 50 0001. Now how much damage can a Fallen do 10 000 years ago? How about being warped to 2011? How can they plant the seeds of doubt that would effect the DA in 40 001? The DA in the past could tell anyone about the Shame and secret the DA will have in the future. Now will anyone believe them? That is the question. Or, the Fallen Dark Angel spirited back to 2011, or some other point in the past, could be the carrier of the gene-culture that leads the Emperor to the creation of the Primarchs, and the Astartes themselves, or at least I Legion. Barakiel
A big problem seems to be Fallen Angels who die accidently without prove. For example a Fallen Angel who drops out of the warp and into a volcano or into the stomach of a giant predator. There will be no trace, no armour, no body. How can we Dark Angels know, that he isn´t still a thread for our security and our honor? So our task is endless... ENDLESS! That leaves me sleepless all night....
