Gerwulf
I'm trying to to finally paint up my BFG fleet that I had lying around for about 10 years now. I have one Battle Barge, two old fashioned Strike Cruisers and one of the new (Grey Knights) Strike Cruisers that I want to convert. I also got some of the new Forgeworld destroyers. I'm playing Ragnar's Great company for my W40k army and I want to use the same markings for my fleet. I'm sure the SWs don't have 12 Battle Barges at their disposal. Even more since one battle barge can fit three (normal) SM companies. And then there are the Strike Cruisers which can carry a whole company. The question is now, does Ragnar has his own Battle Barge? If so, what markings should I put on the Strike Cruisers? First, I was thinking of putting Ragnar's wolfshead on all the ships. But now I more thinking that I will put the wolfshead on the battlebarge and no specific company markings on the strike cruisers. What would you guys do? Edit: Well, considering that according to the SM codex the Ultramarines have 3 Battle Barges, 8 Strike Cruisers and 12 Rapid Strike Vessels... I'm probably better off with a fleet of mixed Great companies. Captain Juan Juarez
Ragnar is one of the high profile Wolf Lords so I'd say he'd have a Battlebarge, if any of the Wolf Lords bar Grimnar did. Don't forget that the Space Wolves don't follow the Codex, so them having four or five Battlebarge-type ships isn't out of the realms of possibility; remember, they've had frictions with the Navy about keeping and using recaptured Navy ships. Thunderhawk3015
You could probably use a mix of Navy and Marine ships, the Fist of Russ for example was an Imperial Cruiser and if I remember correctly Logan's flagship is an Imperial Battle Ship. Gerwulf
The thing is, I already own a battle barge, three strike cruisers and 12 SM rapid strike vessels from forge world and I really like the look of the Space Marine ships, that's why I don't want to add any imperial navy ships. I think I will just end up painting Ragnar's Great Company symbol on the battle barge and leave the strike cruisers either with no markings, or use the markings of other, less high profile wolf lords. Demonslayer
'Battle Fleet Gothic' thats still around. I think I saw a fleet for Ragnar's great Company a long while ago and all the ships (I have no idea what type they were) had his markings on them. I was thinking of doing something like this but it wouldn't go with my fluff (or wallet) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218761-battle-fleet-gothic-ragnars-fleet/#findComment-2609299 Share on other sites
Gerwulf
Could be because they used Ragnar's symbol for the Space Wolves as a whole back then Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218761-battle-fleet-gothic-ragnars-fleet/#findComment-2609572 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
*cough* check the librarium *cough*. Each of the 13 great companies has its own battle barge or strike cruiser. The flagship of the SW fleet is an Emperor Class Battleship, under the command of Logan Grimnar. Warp Rift 13 has some very interesting information on the variations that the SW fleet has over the norm- including the assault strike cruiser *a good use for your GK strike cruiser* and battle barge variants. Nadir
Whole SW fleet is under the command of the Great Wolf. Only flagship should have Ragnar personal markings, and the rest of the fleet Great Wolf symbol of stalking wolf. If i were you I would chose Strike Cruiser for Ragnar, because of his speed and manuverability. Especially, that BB are not so good in overall as SC. From the other side Ragnar, Grimnar and Krakendoom should have their own precious Battle Barges. To be fair, I don't think the space wolves would be overly concerned on appearances, whats a ugly ship when you can just use it to carry supplys or packs as much firepower as one of their ships? Over time they will probably modify it to their preferances, but otherwise I imagine they would just roll with it. Who cares about appearances when you have one of the largest fleets ever? Plus, for those lost companys, you can simply bung them in a Navy crusier and tell them to bugger off. I find it unlikely that there are still 13 battle barges unless the the companys that get lost give it back. XD I imagine that they simply convert Navy Crusiers to suit their needs as time goes on. But yeah, chances are Ragnar has a Battle Barge, but also has 2/3 strike crusiers or simlar vessals in support under the Great Wolfs control to enable the company to cover more ground, supportive. I imagine Ragnar would just use one has his personal strike crusier to make headway on a planet while the Barge is used as heavy support.
