Dhx711
Up until now my 40K play experinces have more or less been with the same goup of about 4 people and the armies those folks have (Tau, Orks, Space Wolves, Chaos, Nids). We just started a new campaign with some new people and armies I've never played against. The campaign is setup that you have to play once a month. Contact an oppoent, agree on points and away you go. My first game is against Eldar @ 2K. Since I've never played against Eldar I was looking for general ideas or advice on how to combat the eldar from anyone that have experince against them. Thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218791-general-advice-for-new-campaign/ Share on other sites
Ebsolom
As Ulthwé are my second army I think I can give you a few hints and tips. Firstly I think a Libby in one form or another is essential if they include Eldrad or other Farseers. If you can nullify at least a third of the Farseers powers the Eldar are a lot less formidable, especially the Guide and Doom powers. Don't expect to get to use your libby powers though as their Runes of Warding will force your psychic tests to be taken on 3d6 instead of 2d6 with perils of the warp triggering on 12 or above! Worth taking though for the Psychic Hood alone so make sure he's well protected in a squad somewhere. Secondly Eldar do NOT like flamers, especially now the BA Sergeants can take hand flamers too. Ive lost entire squads of Pathfinders to flamer templates due to them ignoring cover. Definately worth loading up on them instead of Melta wich leads to my next point... Melta are a waste of time vs. Wave Serpents as you don't get the extra d6 for pen against front and side arcs. They fair slightly better vs. Falcons and Fire Prisms but any Eldar player worth his salt will have Holofields, forcing you to roll 2 dice and pick the lowest on the damage chart. . Also the Avatar is immune to melta weaponry. Only take melta if facing multiple Wraithlord and/or Wraithguard. The most effective units for dealing with the Eldar tanks are the Rifleman Dread (2x TL Autocannons) and 5 man Dev squads with 4xML's, both being good vs infantry too. Generally it's best to avoid close combat with any Eldar specialists like Harlequins, Banshees and even Scorpions. They all have high Initiative and usually hidden Exarchs which WILL deal out pain. Best just wipe them out at range if possible. Hope this helps  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218791-general-advice-for-new-campaign/#findComment-2608760 Share on other sites

lords2001
Also, infantry will be hit hard by lots of S6 weapons most likely. Which puts the rhino's in danger as well - make sure you use cover and some priests to give cover saves.
