warhawk
Hello brothers. It does my heart good to see the forums alive again. i was worried there for awhile. Just to fill you guys in I am not new to this forum but i have kept my eye on it and from time to time helped with rules and list building. I have been playing Orks and Spaces Wolves for God knows how long lol. But i am a tournament player through and through and i have always placed in the top 5 in any tournament i have tried my hands at. There is over 60 40k players in my city alone and tons more in the surrounding citys. The shop i play at is where alot of the competitive gamers go to pick knowledge from people or play test. LOL Sorry alot of gamer pride can ya tell? So back to the topic. There is a 1750 tournament coming up next sat. and are expecting a big turn out. all the reserve spots are taken up. the list i am taking has 16 wins 4 draws 3 losses. where i need some help is deciding what to swap. but before you look at this list go in with a open mind. I will be the first to admit that it is... well diffrenent :D Bjorn with ass. cannon Dread. with ass. cannon Dread with ass. cannon Ven. Dread with Melta 1x Drop Pod 5x Grey hunters 1x Ass. Razor Back+dozer blades 5x Grey hunters 1x Ass. Razor Back+dozer blades 5x Grey hunters 1x Ass. Razor Back+dozer blades 5x Grey hunters 1x Ass. Razor Back+dozer blades 6x Long Fangs with MSL 1x TWL Razor Back+Dozer blads 6xLong Fangs with MSL 1xTWL Razor Back+Dozer blades 1740 Now while this list looks kind of weak in the right hands its devastating! Its crushed pretty much anything its come accrossed if i manage to roll decent. Now where you guys come in is i need help making a decsion. I was thinking about down grading the Ven. Dread to a Reg. Dread and taking a Melta+Flamer landspeeder. Or drop the pod aswell and take a typhoon melta Speeder. Or drop the dread and pod altogther and take 2 Typhoon Melta Speeds  So what do you guys think? Flames, questions? Sturm Moonwolf
I really like that list! But I love Dreadnoughts too. IMHO you are lacking good melta, and the Venerable DN in a drop pod seems like a lot of wasted points. I'd go with more cheap melta delivery by taking out the venerable and his drop pod and the 2 dozer blades off the Long Fangs Razorbacks. I would add 3 MM/HF Landspeeder Tornados in it's place. I like deep striking my landspeeders right on top of what I need to get with them, risky, but worth the reward when it works. Plus they're only speeders anyways. And having those Heavy flamers makes your list even more deadly against any horde army. old git
A minor point really but I too have been running LFs in a dozer equipped R/back recently. For a mere 10 points you can virtually guarantee your LFs getting into the cover you need them to be in, particularly in Dawn of War missions. Overall though I would say you're lacking in melta goodness, given the generally mech heavy environment that is 5th ed. Starkhan Fellblade
I to like the dreads they are cool and deadly if properly used. I would say to drop one of the regular dreads and give your gray hunters meltaguns they are very useful on this unit. But then again it is your army to do with as you please! Hope i could help, Starkhan Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218802-tournament-prep/#findComment-2609189 Share on other sites
Godhead
if he rolls well, then the ass cannons will pop just about any transport out there.. av 13 and 14 is where the melta gains ground. The Lascannons can do well enough vs av 13 and you can never count out the tried and true rocket launcher with a good roll :). If you dropped the dread down to a reg ole dread that gives you 60 points. You could just buy melta's for all your GH squads. Or drop the dread and pod and take two mm/hf speeders and 4 melta guns for your GHs leaving you 20 points for something. Of course my personal taste when it comes to speeders is the typhoon over the regular one. Wildfire
Sort of boring to play, if you ask me. But against the right opponents I'm sure it's very effective, as it min-maxes a lot of effective unit choices. Probably it should go in the Army Lists section, though. Quillen
No it should be here cause he is asking for advice for the tourney. Just showing what he has. If you put every post with a list in the army section then everyone would be there. This would be a fun list to play. No real armor means your razorbacks will burn hot and fast. Still, you got 2 long fang packs for tank hunting too. The squads are too small to hold anything thou. And when it goes to kills for him you gave them 6 kill points the easy way and 4 more for 5 fails armor saves. So in a tourny this list has 2 strikes against it. As to the Podding dread. Well they have their purpose. Can help take something or pop something through rear armor. 2 Skimmers can do that too thou. So your choice. In all honest I would make those 4 packs into 2 tricked out packs. They will last longer and have the same firepower. You'll go to Rhinos but heck rhinos are fine. If it makes you feel better put a second stormbolter on both and call the littebacks. It's all in how you use it really. This list is alot like the old Black Templar plasma line. almost exactly really. Which was 6- 5 man squads in razorbacks. Half bolters and half las with preditor and dreadnought backing. You made a gun line and smoked anything moving. I used it too. It was a fun list. 5th Edition killed that thou. So a blast from the past returns. lol Your call thou. You are playing the tourny. Not me. I have a much different tourny list of late. And now I have not got to use it in ever. I didn't see anything asking about tourney advice, just about what units to take. Now, how about replacing the Dread with 5 WG 3 with combi-meltas and 2 w/ melta bombs? warhawk
Thanks for all the input guys. What i am thinking i want to do is take the 10 pts left over and throw 2 meltas in the hunters. Like i said at the very top this list is a unusual one. But in the right hands and a little luck this list is nasty  But the down side? you have a tough time with armor because you can't rend. And bjorn?.... The man is a monster. out of all the games i have played with this list no one has yet to kill him. they mostly ignore him and focus on the razor backs until he has closed the gap and its to late to stop him num num num. But i will take all of the ideas to the club tonight and try them out. Because tommorrow morning i go to take glory for Russ and the Emperor!
