Hey everyone,

I have been painting Blood Angels for a while now but recently I find myself painting lesser Blood Angels and more Imperial Guardsmen. Could some of you check out my deviantart gallery and give some feedback on my Blood Angels? I noticed I learn a lot from those people giving feedback as well as it motivating me to continue painting.

Thanks

Greetings brothers :D

your chappy aint ad but i would tidy the blood drop on his forehead as it looks as much like spatter...

your comming captain, i instantly liked it, scope on an infernus pistol?...though id move the wingd drops on tha pack to his back somewhere like the flat plate.not bad though. prob paint it red so theres no artificer armour problems. just add extra trim sohe stands out of the crowd without not becomming compleately seperate from it...

san guard... golds hard, and hard to photo. im still not hapy with mine... thoughtso improving them are highlighting the gold with mitherial silver, develin mud wash(though i think i can make out a hint of a wash. and possibly think about drybrushing something like that before you paint gold onto it as it instantly gives a layering effect.which when followed by a silver highlight looks far better than what the effort cost.

Also note its easier for us to crtique you work if you post a more direct link like to an album if you wont post individual pics. personally i dont realy like hoking through other peoples stuff. just a thought...

Have you put pictures in the gallery here? that's probably the easiest way. I love the flying and alighting Vanguard. Possibly lots of True Line of sight comments if you use them in a game, but it does cut both ways. They can see but they can also be seen. My captain is quite similar. The commander pieces work so well with the Death company set. Definitely carry on!

Thank you both, I'm kinda new here so I didn't know I could upload pictures in the gallery :$... Will do so right away! And thanks for the feedback, especially on the Sanguinary Guard... At the time I felt like I had done an amazing job... Now.... Not so very much.. I'm thinking about buying another box...

I really like the pose of that captain. As for colour, I would go with red. The captain in the colour section of the codex is red so I think that is the norm rather than Tycho. Something that I think would add a lot to your models would be to improve the way you paint the gems and blood drops. With good brush control and a little practice its easier than it looks to make them look great. There should be something in an old White Dwarf or on the Astronomicon on the GW website. If you can't find anything let me know and ill try to explain it.

I believe I read something about it in the White Dwarf when the Blood Angels were released but isn't the basic for gems the same as with Space Marine eyes?

It's similar but easier as you're not trying to paint in an eye socket. I work down and across from dark to light starting in the top left corner and then put a dot of white in the top left. I find the trick is to make sure the colour changes a lot on the way down. For red gems I start with a very dark red, almost black, and work down via mechrite or blood red to a thin line of orange at the bottom. The smoother you can make the progression between colours the better it will look. Use thin layers of paint and don't overload your brush.

Okay thanks.. Do you use Vomit Brown as a final highlight as well?
