Deathguard Terminator (FW top)

Vindicatus

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine from Texas wanted his new forge-world topped terminators of Nurgle to look a lot more Nurgle-y than he could manage, so he commissioned me to give my brush a whack at it. Below is an unfinished representation of a chewed up Nurgle Terminator (complete with pustules, oozing stuff, and mildew!)

Still got a bit of work to go, but I figured I'd let others take a gander and see what they thought. I'll also note that painted decayed, cracked, unkempt marines are a lot more difficult than painting up some dirty Grey Knights.

Cheers

edit: mind the horrible lighting. I haven't dug my light-box out of storage yet.

I pawned off of the Plague Marine/DeathGuard tutorial in the Librarium for part of it, but I added in an extra light drybrushing of graveyard earth in some areas to make the colours mesh a little better, and make it look more unkempt and unmaintained. I threw in some detail work here and there on the bone portions, or the Nurgle symbols, before washing it over with some good ol' Badab Black, then tossed in some Thraka Green over the portions where there were cracks/perforations/holes in the armour

After that dried (all of about thirty seconds; thank you heat gun), I touched up some Bloody Red (VMC) onto the areas where there were blisters, pustules, or deep areas in the armour that looked like they would have actually been open, weeping wounds. After that dried, I dabbed them again with some Badab Black, and threw in some Baal Red around the edges to tie it together. Once it dried, I laid in some gloss varnish around the protruding bone, the deep, open wounds, and the deeper cracks to make it look wet. I plan on doing a little more detail work when I get home today, just to make some of the cracks and creases unique to Forgeword DG tops pop out a little more. All in all, it took about 3 hours to do (and that's after stripping the grimy, gross green paint my friend had done them up in before hand)

So, after foodling around with the Terminator, some new paints, and several beers, I finished the body of the first Terminator for my friend. He originally sent me ten Terminators of his to test out how I would do things for him, to make them dirty and look like they just trudged through the swamp, and if he wanted to commission me for the rest of his army. All I got in reply was "Wow. You win, boxing up the rest now."

Below is the finished body of the terminator in question, though I still need to finish and pin/attach the arms.

More to come as I put together and knock out more of them. :)

I would have thought so too, Captain Mick, but that's the look he wanted. He wanted them to look like they had been trudging around in muddy water or a swamp, with their lower half dirty and gross. So, complying with his wishes, that's what came out. He likes it, so that's the way it is. :) I don't argue with people giving me money for it. :)

I finished terminators one and two out of a ten man squad, and the pictures are below.

And so you know, YES...that's an Ogre weapon from WFB. He didn't like some of the melee weapons and thus, provided me with what he wanted used.
