BFG New fleet coming

Hi, I'm thinking of making a Space Marine fleet to play some BFG games in a Badab War campaign, but I'm divided as to what chapter I should choose.

I was thinking either Space Sharks (Carcharowho?) or Lamenters, being two chapters based on a fleet during the War (and I love both fluffs) but I'm open to new ideas.

So, what are your thoughts? Any other chapters I should consider? Also, what ships suit each marine force?

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

It makes very little difference in BFG since there aren't really rules for different chapters. It basically comes down to which color scheme you like best. Pure Marines only have 5 ship choices right now no matter which chapter you choose. With those there are two fairly effective routes with marines, all battlebarges and escorts and all strike cruisers and escorts. Mixing tends to leave you with too few SC to absorb losses and not enough escorts.

I went with Exorcists for thier role in the Badab War, Gothic War, 13th Black Crusade and Third Armageddon War, but Lamenters are great as you can play against *any* force and be the good guys - even other Marines...! Just have a good yellow recipe!

Solid advice. Marines are a touch underpowered, but they can compete and you'll love Thunderhawks!

ye thunderhawks are awesome :)

i found escorts to be well worth the points. theyre expendable (somewhat) and can dish out a relativly healthy amount of firepower. specialy my 4 gladius frigates suprised me. in 1 turn they basicly shot the shields from a cruiser and took like 3 points of its! (2 squadrons of 2 with both lock on special order) the escorts can also bring something the strike cruisers lack. rate of fire, torpedo's and lance :P

Fanatic Magazine 6 has rules for "Crusade Fleets" and "Dominion fleets" besides the standard planetary assault fleet.

Black Templars, and Dark Angels (if you count The Rock as a Fortress Monastery) are good Crusade Fleets.

Ultramarines and Space Wolves are good Dominion fleets (which tend to mix in Imperial Navy, and spread the Marines in the fleet more thinly).

Imperial Armour 10 also has rules for some new ships (one of which is the Carcharodons' command ship (ancient grand cruiser), another a super-sized battleship used as a fortress monastery by the Fire Hawks (Raptorus Rex) and there is a unique ship for one of the rebel chapters as well.

Absolutely! Gladius Class have surprised me as well and although the Novas don't do it for me, the upgraded speed, armour and SM abilites really mean they're worth the points and they're great to take for fluff reasons as well - I like making the IN nervous! Heh!

That sounds really great - my resistance to getting IA 9 and 10 is crumbling daily....must have a meeting with my bank manager... :)

Also - Vaaish has been tight-lipped about it, but I'm sure I saw something lurking on a forum that will hopefully give SC's another shield for +15pts. A price worth paying.

So yes - Thunderhawks - I caused 12 fires to a ship with those blighters! My buddy hates them!

I'd been avoiding mentioning specifics since the new marine PDF isn't up on GW yet so as not to muddy the waters but you are correct. Any number of strike cruisers will be able to upgrade to a second shield for +15 points.

Additionally, strike cruisers can swap their thunderhawks for either s6 torpedo tubes OR s5 bombardment cannons (F arc only) for no cost or swap their bombardment cannons (grudgeingly) for a s1 L/F/R 30cm lance for +20 points. outside of the shield, you can't exceed half the total SC with these modifications.

There's also some stuff to let marines take any IN or chaos capital ship (save light cruisers) as a Venerable Battlebarge for +35 points over the list cost. It does give out 100% VP if crippled and 150% if destroyed, so battleships work best. You only get one of these ever and it counts toward your total battlebarge numbers.

The SO also got redesigned from an awful lance monster to a more fluffy bombardment cannon monster and there's a Fortress monastery based on the ramilles.

My apologies Brother, I didn't mean to bruise your toes - but that stuff is just too good to keep to yourself...!
