Looking good! ^_^

I'd say just do a very minor highlight.. They look pretty solid as is, but a quick one shouldnt hurt.

On the point of 'that' cross... maybe try blacklining it with a micron pen? That way you acknowledge that it's there, but it clarifies it to still be red on red rather than the Death Company red on black.

Regardless, awesome work so far; watching like a hawk.

Got the first batch done, but not done-done, over the weekend. Eyes, chapter badge transfers, and the odd detail still remain, but they're done enough that I'm moving on to the next batch.

Pictures didn't turn out great unfortunately. I highlighted the black and red, sparingly in both cases, and did some of the little details like ropes and script on the purity seals.

This shot in particular shows how the black highlight turned out, and you can get a bit of an idea how the red looks as well. While I kept the highlights spare by design, the natural result is that they don't really show that much unless you're up close and looking for them. I may have to adjust that standard for future models. Overall I'm pleased with how this batch has turned out, now I just need to get cracking on the rest. To that end, I did the red base coat on 2.5 minis on Sunday and plan to do more today. Hopefully I can get the red done up to highlighting today, but we'll see how that goes.

Wow has it been a while since I updated this thread. Work has progressed, though slowly, since last time. The assault squad is nearing completion. I hope to finish it over the weekend, which will give me two weeks to do the Sanguinary Guard and get jump packs/wings done for everyone as well. A poorish picture of how the assault squad stands:

Blending is on my list of techniques to learn. I've been easing my way back into hobbying after a hiatus of a few years, and this squad represents my first real attempt to paint to a higher standard. I'm not 100% satisfied, especially considering how long it takes me to finish a model, but I do like the results. It's awfully nice to be looking at someone's gallery and think "Man, if only I could paint like that," then realize that I can and do paint like that.

With the deadline coming up soon, I figured it was time for another update. The assault squad is finished, at least the bodies are. The jump packs are about 50% finished, but are on the shelf for the moment because of the other half of my vow:

The Guard are coming along well. I have to check to see when the exact deadline is, but I feel better about making the cut than I have in a while. Plus I'm happy with the results, so it's a double win.

Almost done with my vow, and just in time. The Sanguinary Guard have a few outstanding details to be finished, notably the banner, while the assault squad is done. Behold, completion!

Victory, it is mine.

I was particularly pleased with how the banner turned out. Considering I kept it til the last minute and kinda fudged my way along, it came out better than I anticipated.
