Hyaenidae
As requested, I am here, bro, lol. Alright, let's see... 1. Despite my involuntary eye twitch when I saw the color scheme on the marine painter, it looks pretty good on the models. The only thing I'd suggest is possibly switching the purple to gold possibly. The purple makes the model a little 'too busy', while a soft gold would still keep the regal look of your marines while toning down the colors a little. If the different color eagles are indictave of the compay they serve, may I suggest the classy 'helmet stripe' instead? Or possibly the shoulder trim? 2. The conversion and kit-bashing ideas are outstanding, don't change a dang thing, lol. 3. That lumpy white paint...well, I think it's been mentioned pretty heavily already. May I suggest switching to Dheneb Stone as a basecoat, then layering up to white? Dheneb coats much nicer (no lumps), and with the layering, it'll give the white some nice depth. Also, water down your paints a little (just a few drops), you'll be happy you did. I'm not sure about spray primers or airbrushes, so I can't give any advice there. I use brushes for everything, even my big projects and basecoating. 4. I'm no master of greestuff, so take this advice with a grain of salt, brother. First, I use a little vaseoline on all the tools I'm working with, to keep the green stuff from sticking to em. Also, I found it helps to get the basic shape on the mini's, then leave it for about an hour or so. The greenstuff will harden just ever so slightly, making it easier to work with, especially to smoothen it out and remove the inevitable fingerprints (I'm looking at the badasski running leg conversion while I'm typing this, mind you, lol). I'm not sure what kinda tools you're working with, I just use the sculpting tool from Citadel...I use the rounded end, get a touch more of vaseoline on the tool, then do small circles with just a bit of pressure over and over to smooth out the green stuff until you're happy with the result. It's a pain to learn the green stuff, man, I know. Just keep practicing, and you'll nail it. 5. I always loved that bit of old fluff about the the emperor's tears being collected by his custodes, I approve, my friend. Just as a side note, if tears (crying) and tears (ripping) starts becoming too much of an issue, 'The Emperor's Sorrow' work work too. Not critisizing the name you chose, mind you, just spitting out ideas. Keep up the good work, man! Bolt16
1000Heathens really appreciate you taking a look. Thanks for the words of encouragement. I think like both you and Chappy B have said I'm going to switch to priming by painting on a base coat especially as I couldn't take another lose of detail like the last. So onto my next update while in no way helping towards my LPC and in fact getting in the way of the painting I just couldn't resist finishing Librarian Phoustos and Captain Demos. So here they are.....first Librarian Phoustos: And Captain Demos: C&C Welcome as always. GooseDaMoose
Holy crap the Captain is fantastic! That's an absolutely wonderful model. And the Librarian is pretty cool too, although I am a bit personally biased against Librarians with stuff shooting out of their hands (is it an hourglass?). Anyway. I am seriously impressed by that Captain. I don't really have words to describe it. He's just wicked awesome. One small comment on the Librarian's weapon though; I feel like one of the flames should be going the other way. At the moment it looks slightly like either the weapon itself shoots out flames, or he's pulling it sharply towards himself so the flames on both ends trail the same way, and why would he be doing that? It would look better, and more realistic, if he was spinning the weapon (for whatever reason :P) so the flames at the bottom trailed the other way. Or lose them altogther :) Anyway, keep up the great converting work! Bolt16
Thanks Goose for the kind words! Have to say I'm really pleased with the way the Captain came out. Now just hope I can paint him to match the modelling (I think I'll do him with some dripping blood coming off the chainblades of his weapon therefore maybe bit of blood splatter on his armour but no sure what do people think?). Onto the Librarian yep it is an hour glass it's my take on the Blood Angels shackles power the idea being that he can hold people in time. On the weapon I see your point and will remodel him so the bottom flame is on the other side to make it look like he is spinning the weapon. And next is on back to the painting of the lumpy primed sternguard squad....then a razorback before finally can start building again......... Thanks again Goose :o Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/218952-tears-of-the-emperor/page/2/#findComment-2659520 Share on other sites

Bolt16
Right well it's been a while but time for an update. Life has seriously got in the way recently what with crises in the world and moving country and home but there we go. Anyway It's official I failed the LPC my possesions were shipped back to the UK on Wednesday and left me with a complete Sternguard Squad but only a half painted Razorback. Anyway here are the pics: Sternguard Specialist: Sternguard Sergeant Passius: Completed Sternguard Squad: Sternguard Razorback WIP: Razorback rear ramp: Razorback Interior: So C&C welcome as ever. Also pretty sure I'm going to need to improve the shading on the Sergeants Cloak and also need to re-do the Lightning claw blades. Cheers!
