Advice Needed

I was just trounced by the above. His list was something like this:

3 Ironclads (Melta/HF) Pod

3 Speeders (MM/HF)

1 Tac Squad (?) Pod

1 Tac Squad (CM/PF) Pod; and

Vulkan

Librarian (Null Zone).

I was running:

2 RP (LL; MH/JotWW)

1 Lone Wolf (TDA; SS: TH)

2 8GH w/Pack Leader (PF/CM; Melta; PW; MotW; WS) Rhino (DB)

1 9GH w/Pack Leader (PF/CM; Melta; PW; MotW; WS) Rhino (DB)

2 6 LF (ML) Razorback (TLL; DB)

Is there a flaw in my list? I went to the store with a list because I didn't know what he was going to play.

We got DoW take and hold. I chose to go second because of his pods. He dropped them on my side of the field just outside of melta range, and ran the speeders to the middle of the field. The dreds got out and popped smoke. He was on top of my before I could do any damage. Fearing the lone wolf he put a good bit of dred fire into him, but the wolf went down before he could do anything.

Any thoughts on how to counter?

How many points were you playing at?

What is the Lone Wolf for?

What did you set-up initially?

Where were the Objectives?

Where is 'just outside of melta range'?

His list is slow, barring the speeders, once it has dropped. You have more speed via the Rhinos.

Your list has range, via the Fangs, Razors and LL.

Deploy the Fangs and Razor away from the Dreads and shoot, shoot, shoot down the Speeders, then the Dreads, then the Tacs.

Circle around with the Greys until you can get them both firing on one Dread. Then the next, etc. His force is slow and short ranged. Use your mobility to destroy in detail whilst chipping away with your long range guns.

:D

Slowing down dreds.

I rolled everything in on turn 2. I brought the razorbacks in roughly 12" in from each short edge and dropped off my fangs in cover. I brought in a rhino close to each fang pack to provide them some support. Then, I brought the lone wolf in the middle to tie up the dreds and I brought in the last rhino in behind him to cover the objective.

One was in the middle of the field, and the other was about 6" in from my table edge.

About 21-23" from my table edge. Far enough from my stuff that I couldn't roll on, jump out and melta spam with my GH.

He can;t deploy at range. The dreads are drop podding.

Has the new Inquisitor rule book come out? If not you can take an Inqius with 2 guys that lets him direct fire at Drop podding units and then let the long fangs beat the drad when it arrives. Cheesy to do but works.

If this is in reference to a new Codex then no. DAngels next, then 'Crons then DHunters + WHunters together in "Inquisition" 'dex.

@ Brother Caleb : lose lone wolf

Add wolf scouts with melta spam. Melta up. Also maybe a LR to keep GHs safe.

If I am misinterpreting the board please clarify

He dropped 3 Ironclads turn 1.

-1 was in the middle of the field

-1 was 6" from your edge

-1 remaining we do not know about

Turn 2 you rolled onto the board with your entire army

Major question #1-He is fielding a DP army with LS support...you have mechanized mobility. Why spread out when you had a chance to focus fire and wipe him out piece meal.

You were already told LS were one option. You also could easily have focused fire on the ironclad 6" in from your board edge. You could have wielded every single anti armor weapon in your arsenal except the LF (razor should have moved 6 then let them run while it fired)

6 meltas

2 LL

2 TLLC

Even with popped smoke he was going to take a beating from all angles and the other ironclads were too far away to do anything besides fire a long range MM. You would have faced LS and whatever DP he rolled against your entire army if he came after you aggressively. In response you wipe out whatever came close. If he stayed back you had LFs + RPs to reach out and touch him while your GHs mounted up.

Cover for the LF is generally good but in this situation the opposing list was coming in piecemeal and had no long range return fire. Priority should have gone to firing the TLLC and removing a sitting duck target

What are you smoking?

Most sites agree that its Grey Knights then Necrons, the Summer Flyers and possibly Tau because they've only started the prototype Sisters models.

DH & WH will *not* be released in the same book. Keep dreaming because it won't happen. The GK are getting some Inquisitorial stuff in their book, but no Sisters.

As for the OP, I'd echo the others sugggestions that you simply drive away and take his units apart piecemeal. If you take out the Ironclads he's got very little combat ability apart from Vulkan while your LL should maul his Speeders. You have the range in this instance.

Let me clarify. He dropped the dreds in a relatively strait line about 21-23" from, and parallel to, my long edge. The objectives were in the middle of the field and 6" from my long edge. Sorry for the confusion.

Based on the details you've provided I've gotta agree with the consensus on this thread that you deploy nothing (which you did) and then go heavy to one flank to overload his units. A drop pod army is has a great "shock and awe" ability but after that is slow and can easily be overwhelmed if attacked piecemeal.

My suggestion would've been to castle up on one flank and use your long fangs to take our the dreads and speeders at range, then use your superior mobility to take out the tactical squads at your leisure.

His list is one trick pony... just try to hel everything in reserve, he will have no idea on where to drop, and will not able to apha strike... and also, try to change the th on your lone wolf with a chainfist!
