ringlancer
Hi folks! i'm looking for IA examples of chapters that have lost their home worlds. The IA's could be official or ones here that have "made it". Any points in the right direction would be appreciated..thanks! Brother Tyler
The Fire Hawks and Scythes of the Emperor have lost their homeworlds (the former actually losing two). The Astral Claws lost theirs when they lost the Badab War, and two of their allies also lost their homeworlds. There are probably a few others. Why do you ask? ringlancer
I'm thinking about having my chapter lose its homeworld and become a fleet based chapter. I want to see how others have done it. Blacklight
Wouldn't be too far of a stretch to say the Tyranids ate it. Though most chapters would die in their entirety defending their homeworld, so if you were to have them become a fleet based chapter later, you would have to have a portion of them off on assignment somewhere and return to find their planet destroyed or overrun beyond the point of no return. It could also get consumed in a Warp storm, Necrons could rise on it and overrun it, etc. There's a variety of things that you could do. ringlancer
Opinions sought...Would Exterminatus be used on a chapter home world due to severe ork infestation/overrun, or would that be more of a slog it out kind of thing? Blacklight
I highly doubt Exterminatus would be used on a homeworld. It's up to the Inquisition, however, so perhaps if it was a hive world and there was a huge amount of heresy and corruption among the populace. But again though, very doubtful. I'm not sure if Chaos has access to Exterminatus weapons, but if they did you could have them launch one at your planet and only a certain amount of the chapter escapes. Really iffy, again. Most likely scenario in an unlikely situation would be the Inquisition. Most definitely not an Ork invasion, Space Marines pretty much enjoy fighting Orks as far as I can tell. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219004-looking-for-examples-losing-home-world/#findComment-2611366 Share on other sites
Ecritter
Well I took my homeworld to the mall once, and lost it for several hours. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219004-looking-for-examples-losing-home-world/#findComment-2611389 Share on other sites
Grey Hunter Ydalir
Warp storm swallows it up leading the chapter to believe it is lost and abandon the region. Tyranids eat it, Necrons harvest it, Orks stomp it, Chaos legions desecrate it. You name it we've got it. Really, the possibilities are rather extensive and you haven't given many, if any parameters for us to try and fit a suggestion to what you're looking for, nor have you given any information on your chapter and what you want this particular event to add to the chapter in terms of character. Why do you want them to lose their homeworld and what will it add to the chapter, other than making them fleet based which on it's own can be achieved without dedicating an entire section of your IA to it? soddinnutter
OK here is the one thing that has not yet been done in relation to loosing a planet of origin. The emperor is going to attend a meeting with several of the Ethereal Caste in the Tau Protectorate out in the Galactic Utter East. They are needing more troops to bolster their garrison of Fire Warrior Legions because of the .growing threat of The Devourer. As your chapter is the one living closest to the Tau Protectorate it is necessary for the experienced veterans of the first and second company to go and be an awesome showcase for the Imperial War Machine. (Gulliman is also rumored to be sending an Inquisitor to make notes on the Chapters progress so if they want to keep the funding they had better bloody jump to it) Three weeks into the journey and all is going well. just one more short warp jump will put them on the Eastern Galactic Edge. They emerge from the Empyrean into a nightmare parody of their universe. There is no Grand Imperium ruled over by the Benevolent Emperor. There is only horror and War Eternal. Or you could have Necrons doing the omnicide dance. Either way. This. Aside from giving them a reason to go on a crusade, losing their homeworld really offers no tactical advantages. The chapter is forced to store its relics in its ships, which is more risky, though having a homeworld means a portion of the chapter must be around to protect it. Having no homeworld also means that you have no solid recruitment base so your fleet will have to improvise when in need of recruits.
