@Plague Angel if what you said is true then what qualities of a gene-seed should one consider in making a DIY Chapter?

 

The choice of primogentor can be for gene-seed traits, cultural traits, or a combination of genetic/cultural ones.

 

Does your chapter suffer the curse of the Red Thrist? Then your geneseed is that of Sanguinius.

Does your chapter suffer the curse of the Mark of the Wolfen? Then your geneseed is that of Leman Russ.

Does your chapter suffer from extreme stubbornness and a few missing super powers? Then your geneseed is that of Rogal Dorn.

Does your chapter really like bikes? I mean like-like bikes? Then they may have cultural or genetic ties to Jaghati Khan.

Does your chapter really like sneaking, skulking, and being all ninja-y? Then they may have cultural or genetic ties to Corax.

Does your chapter really like fire, hammers, fire, helping the little people, fire, and fire? Then they may have cultural or genetic ties to Vulkan.

Does your chapter have a secretive nature, dark secret, and a secret ability to look really secretive in robes? Then they may have cultural to Lion el'Johnson.

Does your chapter sp33k l33t, do they have skillz, do they think the Iron Warriors are n00bs? Then they may have cultural ties to Ferrus Manus.

Does your chapter have a tendancy to kick Zoats into nearby pits whilst screaming "This. Is. MACRAGGE!"? They they may have ties to Robute Guilliman.

 

Although, generally speaking...

You can never go wrong saying that you are of Ultramarine gene-stock.

You will probably go wrong if you chose Blood Angel, Raven Guard, or Dark Angel.

You have already gone wrong if you chose Space Wolf, Grey Knight, or any Traitor Legion.

Addendum: unless you actually play BA or DA and know the history and how you can fit in, instead of trying to break the mold — this might not go as wrong.

 

As for Raven Guard... personally speaking. I know some people are fans of Raven Guard and Corax. If you start there, cool. But if you're just making a DIY and trying to select a gene-seed source to fit your chapter (instead of making a chapter to fit your gene-seed), I don't see what Corax adds to make you pick him over Guilliman, honestly.

I was thinking of renaming the chapter to one of the followings and also thinking of using the raven guard geneseed since i like the sneakiness and all:

1. Shadow Paladins

 

2. Stealth Wolves

 

3.Black Angels (i know this sounds like it could be from a BA Chapter or even a Chaos Warband none the less)

 

or

 

4.Black Ravens (but i believe this name is taken already just not sure, if anyone knows just tell me)

 

I'm also thinking of have the Raptor chapter do the geneseed for the chapter and train them in the art of unseen warfare. like how the Raptor chapter trained themselves when they crashland on the planet, the Raptor chapter picked a planet in which is similar to the forest they trained in. but before the chapter is in full combat readiness they were called into duty to stop a ork incursion i a neighboring planet. this would result in a massacre of the chapter leaving only 5 companies intact. with the lose of their brothers, they pledge an oath that would forever change the chapter, to hone their skill to perfection against any xenos, chaos incursions.
