wos79
Hello, I am new to warhammer after many years out and love the idea of a space wolves army. I bought and painted my troops with no real setup in mind but heres what I have come up with as my army. Any comments welcome and advice is ideal. Please help me get some direction. I have 2 rune priests- 200 points? 4 GH with bolters 1 w/meltagun in Razor with HB 4 GH with bolters 1 w/meltagun in Razor with HB 8 Blood claws with ccw and bolt pistols 2 w/meltaguns in Rhino with stormbolter. 1 predator annihalator with TLLC and spon lascannons. 5 wolf scouts with pistols and knives. I have unpainted the usual suspects- logan, njal, lucas, ulrik and ragnar and could add these to this if needed. I am not looking to amass to many points but wondered if this army has any teeth??????? Could add a new unit if needed but just want to get playing and learning??? Comments please- cheers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219071-space-wolves-help/ Share on other sites
Starkhan Fellblade
First off welcome to the Fang! Now down to business the rune priests are good i assuming that you put them in with the Grey Hunters right? Blood claws are ok, I would take them out to add more grey hunters and then put the grey hunters in rhinos. If you do want the BC they are best used with a wolf priest. As for the scouts i would give them a melta gun and use them to infiltrate and maybe take out some enemy armor before they die BTW how many points are you going for? That info would help a lot! Hope I could help, Starkhan Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219071-space-wolves-help/#findComment-2612431 Share on other sites
postal105
slides the new guy a tankard of ale and welcome to the fang now down to business i see a few problem that are minor ones the minimum size for Grey Hunters is 5 not 4 and yes the 2 rune priests are 200 points with no war gear other then default war gear problem is you can t have them equipped exactly the same way now 2 different psychic powers on them will fix that equipped alike problem a wolf priest is all most a must if you are running Blood Claws also the blood Claws can only have the 2nd special weapon if they number 15 strong in the pack. so you may wan tot move that extra melta gun in the 8 man Blood Claw pack into the scout pack other then that you may want some Long Fangs because in the long run a pack of Long Fangs is cheaper on points then a Predator and allows for you to add in some toys for your boys or for you to even add more boys as one of the long fangs here likes to say boys over toys Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219071-space-wolves-help/#findComment-2612463 Share on other sites
Kassill
Aye, welcome to the Fang laddie! :P Looks like your off to a good start! A bit of tweeking, like adding a meltagun to the scouts, your list will not only have teeth, but fangs! Heimdal
Welcome to the Fang, pup. The mead is to the right and the booze is to the left. I hope you will enjoy your stay :P You have covered the basics with your force, its quite good for a beginner. However, I would recomend adding a melta gun and a power weapon to your scouts, preferably a plasma pistol as well. With those weapons they can take on most things that hangs back (usually support vehicles or infantry firebases). I would also have changed one Rune Priest to a Wolf Priest as well. The WP would accompany the Blood Claws, giving them "prefered enemy" (and being "Fearless" to boot!) so they suffer less from WS3. With an invulnerable save the WP is a better close combat fighter than the Rune Priest. Our troops can use power weapons and that is something you shouldnt leave your house without (they ignore armour saves in close combat, quite handy considering the amount of marine armies out there). One power weapon in each pack is mandatory for me. By the way, unless you have a full pack of Blood Claws (15 BC`s) you can only use one melta gun in the pack. With my proposed changes the army will size up at about 890 points. 1000 point games is common so a another 110 points of goodies is possible for a solid starter force ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219071-space-wolves-help/#findComment-2612503 Share on other sites
Quillen
Yeah. If your running Grey Hunter packs you want them to be maxed out so you get the free second special weapon. I put a fist in mine too incase they bump into a dread or a tank is near by needed to be killed. Blood Claws are too expensive for what you get these days. I would use them to fill out the Grey Hunters. As Grey Hunters have CCW and Bolt Pistols. Then you have 2 units almost maxed. Just need a second special weapon. All in all thou, it's up to you and your play style. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219071-space-wolves-help/#findComment-2612709 Share on other sites
wos79
Hello, Thankyou for your comments!!!! over a tankard of ale and a brief scrap with someone that looked at me funny- we made up over ale though and now we off lookin for trouble!!! orks asking for a ruck:-) new list- 5 GH IN RAZORBACK W/ MELTAGUN AND HB FOR RAZOR 120POINTS? 5 GH IN RAZORBACK W/MELTAGUN AND HB FOR RAZOR 120 POINTS 10 GH IN RHINO ALL 8 WITH CCW AND BOLT PISTOLS 2 MELTAGUN OR FLAMERS? 190 POINTS? RUNE PRIEST WITH MASTER OF THE RUNE WITH THE LIVING LIGHTENING, STORMCALLER AND WOLFTAIL FOR THOSE PESKY PHYSCHE- NOT SURE ON SPELLING? 155 POINTS? I HAVE THE PREDATOR ANN WITH ALL THE LASCANNONS ALREADY PAINTED 165 POINTS? DOING THIS FROM MEMORY AT WORK BUT LAST NIGHT BETWWEN THE ALE IT ADDED UP TO 750 POINTS. WOULD LIKE LONG FANGS BUT THAT REQUIRES SPENDING! I ALSO HAVE A NORMAL LANDRAIDER AND 5 WOLF GUARD TERMIES. 2 WITH STORM BOLTER AND P/F, 1 WITH CHAINFIST AND STORM BOLTER, 1 WITH STORM BOLTER ANF FROST AXE AND 1 WITH STORM BOLTER AND FROST BLADE. TOTAL 470 POINTS THIS GIVE ME AN ARMY OF 1220 POINTS. I WILL KEEPS THE SCOUTS FREE FOR ANOTHER GAME. THE REASON I POSTED THE 750 POINTS IS TO GIVE ME A SMALL ARMY TO GET GAMING AND HOPEFULLY THROW SOME WEIGHT AROUND. ONCE I GET USED TO THING I WOULD ADD THE TERMIES ETC. IM LOOKING AT A POWERFIST FOR THE GH BUT THAT WOULD REQUIRE SOME EXTRA POINTS NEEDED AT 750 SO MAY DROP THE MASTER OF RUNES TO GET THIS? ANY THOUGHT? IF IT WAS A 1250 ARMY I HAVE 30 POINTS SPARE WHICH COULD HELP? COMMENTS MORE THAN WELCOME!!!!! postal105
Grey hunters come standard with bolters and ccw and pistols that when in close combat they automatically switch out the bolter for the ccw and pistols so that you get your extra attacks. so the ones with pistols and ccw's you can have make bolter shots if you wan t to in the shooting phase. all master of the runes does is allow you to use 2 psychic powers in the same turn but you are still restricted to only 1 psychic shooting attack per turn so if you had 2 shooting powers i would say drop master of the runes. also just some thing you may want to consider with your 10 GH in the rhino you can take the flamer for free and because you have the 10 guys you can then take a melta gun for free. its the small things in the codex that make it interesting. narf
also on the subject of RP's done really need to bother with the talisman as the runic weapon does the same job better and you get it to start with. and master of runes doesnt help with two shooting attacks with that saving of 55 points, a good buy can be a chooser of the slain as it stops any cheeky infiltration and also gives you+1 BS for your shooting power. Ideally Living lightning an murderous hurricane are a good combo. With the remaining points you could look to upgrade a razorback to have twin las or las/plas which helps or make some of the GH wulfen in the smaller squads, again good and better than a power weapon at 750 points level, example below 5 GH IN RAZORBACK W/ MELTAGUN & MOTW AND HB FOR RAZOR 130POINTS? 5 GH IN RAZORBACK W/ MELTAGUN & MOTW AND HB FOR RAZOR 130POINTS? 10 GH IN RHINO ALL 10 WITH CCW AND BOLT PISTOLS 1 MELTAGUN & 1 FLAMER + MOTW 200 POINTS? RUNE PRIEST WITH LIVING LIGHTENING, Murderous Hurricane & Chooser of the slain 110 POINTS? I HAVE THE PREDATOR ANN WITH ALL THE LASCANNONS ALREADY PAINTED 165 POINTS? Even this list leaves you at under 700 points so you could add some wargear or wold standards if you wanted Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219071-space-wolves-help/#findComment-2613588 Share on other sites
Starkhan Fellblade
with the extra 30 points i would get ether a assault cannon or CML(cyclone missile launcher) fro the wolf guard termis. and to add the power fists take out master of runes.
