purplehaze89
Hi to all, been on this forum, lurking in the dark for some time now and probably about time posted something. Unfortunately its a question. My main gaming friend had decided that due to the new forgeworld badab war book, he wants to do a army centered around huron for a potential campaign, or a few easy games. Since he made his decision I had the insperation to create a loyalist chapter to do battle with since my imperial fists are starting to become a chore to paint. The following chapters to decide from are: Fire Hawks (involved 904-5, 906-): Entire Chapter deployed; heavy casualites Marines Errant (904-905, 906-7): 6 Companies; heavy casualties including Chapter Master Red Scorpions (905-): 8 Companies Raptors (905-909): Taskforce equivalent to 4 Companies in size; reassigned by the Inquisition Salamanders (905-) Fire Angels (905-): entire Chapter; severe casualties Novamarines (906-908): 2 Companies plus Scout and Terminator elements; reassigned by the Inquisition Howling Griffons (906-909): approx. 250 battle brothers from across the Chapter; took heavy casualites and were later reassigned by the Inquisition Sons of Medusa (906-) Minotaurs (907-) Exorcists (908-): 1 company To start of with I eliminated the chapters i particullarly dislike such as the space sharks, salamanders and fire hawks This narrowed it down to the Sons of Medusa, and the Red Scorpions and decided to do some testers http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss172/sadaulton/IMG_1253.jpg http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss172/sadaulton/IMG_1249.jpg http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss172/sadaulton/IMG_1259.jpg From these i cant decide which i prefer and was wondering what you guys think With the red scorpions, can free hand chapter emblem, feature in other IA books and have a lot of FW support With the Medusas, IH successor potential for lots of conversions, funcky scheme, but i believe had the smaller committment to the Badab episode. The third opinion is doe a tactical for mutiple chapters to make a coalition force where each unit if from a different chapter, enabling me to paint more schemes. Any input would be great. brother varen
Have you looked up the fluff on both chapters to see which one intrests you the most? Here are some things to think about: 1) fluff (if you like it) 2) ease of building the army ( red scorpions have Forge world love / while alot of conversion work for the sons of medusa) 3) money to invest in army ( If you use the Forgeworld items for the red scorpions = $ / there are some bionic sets out there or go the conversion route) I don't know if this helps, but that is what i do. But IMHO go with the one that intrests you because if you don't you might lose intrest in building the army.
tagsta
hey great to see other people attempting some badab marines! I own both of the books and I find myself in a similar situation! I like the chapters so much but it is very hard to settle on a particular one, so I guess in the upcoming months I will create some indidual test marines and 5 man test squads and see which scheme is the most fun to paint and then settle for this one. what chapter is next? cheers
RedMoon
why did you not mention the Carchadons or space sharks in low gothic? i love there brutal style they have and the whole the imperium sent us off to the edge of known space just to kick but and take names
Lord Ragnarok
I really am enamored with the color scheme for the SoM. That would be my vote. With the new fluff, that they are a Iron Hands offshoot, I love the thought of that scheme with cybernetic implants. But yeah, You should find the best mix of fluff/color scheme that you like. Remember FW, has the cybernetic bits ;)
Evicerator
my first army was going to be a Sons of Medusa army because I loved their paint scheme. Sadly, I never got around to even starting it. Did BA instead lol. Have been working on a Salamanders force though, so I did eventually get into a green marine outfit haha.
purplehaze89
Update First I would like to say thank you for your remarks, tried my hand at a raptor marine and the medusa logo http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss172/sadaulton/IMG_1263.jpg http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss172/sadaulton/IMG_1260.jpg I was also working on a fire hawk, but it turned out terrible and now he has joined my imperial fists speaking of which http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss172/sadaulton/IMG_1256.jpg The more i paint though the more im swinging towards the sons of medusa As with the space sharks, the lexicanum fails to mention there participation on the badab loyalists page although i know they participated. Wolf Priest Haelaeif
I really like both the sons of medusa and the red scorpions schemes, and you pulled both off very well. Have you considered making it an allied chapters army with both schemes? That would also allow for other colours should you find that the other badab war chapters are too cool to pass up, too.
