LPC 2011 WIPs - Raven Guard terminators and rhino.

These are just starting point pictures to prove that I actually have something to start with :) Taken with my cell's camera, but at this point quality isn't that important.

Rhino: very partially assembled (track units glued together, floor and front bulkhead glued to one of them), partially undercoated black, interior has some patches of colour on it. FW front armour and side doors. I'm planning to make the top hatch workable, but that depends on closer examination and establishing the amount of work it needs.

Terminator squad: wholly assembled and undercoated black, heavy weapon magnetized.

As the Rhino is relatively closer to completion I plan to start fulfilling the vow with it. More photos hopefully soon.

I've started on the termies first, I figured I need them more than the Rhino.

So - I've painted heads first, as they seemed most challenging and I like painting faces. After that I've decided to finish them one by one, not assembly-line style. Sarge is first in the line, as you can see. I'm thinking about giving him some more decorative stuff, maybe one or two additional purity seals or something.

What I'm happy with - sarge's face, who is officially becoming Sergeant Badass (I'm thinking of adding him a scar or two), storm bolter metallics - it's Mirthril Silver drowned in Badab Black, looks really heavy-duty.

What I'm not so happy with:

- White armour parts. Painting white on black is a torment and I'm not really happy with how it looks, despite numerous thin layers it's still a little blotchy and the colour is very chalky cold. It definitely needs some more work, maybe a layer of some greyish-brown wash to break the artificial looking whiteness? Any advice?

- I'm also not very pleased with helmets, I shaded them with black wash and I think I overdid it, especially in lens sockets, it looks a little panda-ish. Or am I imagining things? I think a little white wash to brighten the shades wouldn't hurt, and also some brownish wash to off the white.

Anyway, here's the photo:

That face is creepily realistic, well done!

But I think some lens light effects would look really cool, and you could just use a few brow/grey/green glazes and then re-highlight the helmets with white, it would look good.

And they don't look panda-ish, don't worry B)

Time is running short, but I'm confident I will manage to complete my vow on time. After all it's still 11 days left. But it's definitely time for an update.

I got tired with terminators and started painting the Rhino instead. Right now I have finished the interior and glued everything together (except the smoke launchers which I forgot and will glue on later). The model is undercoated black and ready for the detail painting, highlighting and battle damage (which I plan to do quite extensive).

I made the top hatch workable and would to the same to the side doors if it didn't require so much hacking and cutting (the inner door).

The quality of the photos is not stunning, but they're not here for admiring but as a required proof for the contest.

Ready! Kinda last minute, but I did it :)

Usually I take my "Hall of honor" pictures in daylight, today it's not the case, co the quality sucks bad, but these pics are just a proof that I did what I vowed to do. Tomorrow I'll make better ones and post them in the Hall of Honor.

Anyway:

5 man terminator squad:

Rhino APC (with workable top hatch; unfortunatelny one of the hinges broke and right panel does not open all the way, I'll have to fix it):

Whew :)

Raven Guard Terminators?! That's a rare sight to be sure. Very nice :)

I think that teleporting into enemy headquarters and smashing it apart fits quite well the RG's motto of "from the shadow we strike" :)

Better quality pictures in my Hall of Honor topic.
