FallenLion
purely fluff ok so all of the miniatures that have wings also have the single exhaust jump-packs so are the wings purely decretive? or are they made of plasti-crete? or are they bionic? confused ... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219154-wings/ Share on other sites
Brother Chris
Well, the guy on the front of the Codex, who I believe was supposed to be Dante before they decided not to change his model, and who now presumably represents a Sanguinary guard with no mates, has his wings displayed in a different configuration, so presumably they 'work'. All our guard models have the same wing configuration but Astorath and the Sanguinor have their in different configurations. If the jump packs are very old (heresy era) we might be able to deduce something from the old Raptor Jump packs. These have working bat wings on them, so quite possibly ours have working angel wings. I imagine the central exhaust has the lift and thrust and the anti grav units, while the wings are for direction, slowing for descent and aerobatics. Rybnick
The jump pack I'd say provides the propulsion, maybe the wings add a little maneuverability. I'd say they are more of a decorative or possibly iconic/inspirational addition over a functional one. Demitra
I'm treating the wings as steering devices while the jet provides thrust, as Rybnick suggested. From a modeling perspective I want to leave the wings off as the contact points are so tiny I'm sure they'll come off constantly. From a fluff/aesthetic perspective I love them. In the end they'll end up on the models, but I'll hate them every time one comes off and I have to reattach it. igotsmeakabob!!
I use ZapAGap and haven't pinned the wings (too tiny), they have yet to come off in the three or four games that they've been fielded. Don't take anything on the cover as canon or even fluffy. It was a drunk, blind dude that threw up on a piece of paper and GW, in their infinite wisdom made it the cover of our beloved codex. shdwcypher13
If I read into the fluff right then the wing can presumably be real. But for the modeling yes some sore of biometric attachments to the armor to provide directional control. Kurb
I use those Sang guard JP's without the wings. The wings I turn into storm shields. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219154-wings/#findComment-2614225 Share on other sites
Malatox
I always viewed them as ostentatious direction controllers. Being able to move in-a-sorta-way to direct the user more accurately, maybe even to raise effieciecy lost from the single thrusters. I use those Sang guard JP's without the wings. The wings I turn into storm shields. I've heard of people not using the wings, but not using them as Storm-Shields :L... I would love to see those, it sounds like it could make an awesome model.
