Dreadnought Drop Pods

Recommended Posts

Hello all, just wondering if the more experienced modellers can help me out with something. I've just bought a Drop Pod for (as the title suggests) my Dreadnought but I've never put one together before.

I was looking at the instructions and wasn't sure if you could/should assemble it without the central 'computer' module which the infantry harnesses attach to? Logically it seems to me that a Dread-carrying pod wouldn't have space for the column or need the harnesses?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I didn't have any trouble putting together a couple of drop pods without all the harness-guts. They don't add anything as far as stability and/or guidance when it comes to mounting those fins (at least not as much as the doors themselves). Go for it! It'll be faster to assemble and paint this way.

From what I remember, they actually MAKE dreadnought drop pods, but I can't for the life of me remember where to get them. You know they're the dreadnought ones because it only has three doors that are MUCH wider than normal, and it's a little more squat around the base than a standard drop pod.

Hell, I could care less about the 'counts as' if you just didn't install the innards and used it like that. I believe they're both the same size once they touch down on the ground anyways, so I say go for it.

I sometimes get tempted to buy a FW kit, but then the price and the amount of work it takes to build one puts me off. Call me lazy, but I don't fancy paying £56 and then spend an age cleaning, re-shaping, filing (with mask on !) and green stuffing the resin to build it.

Newbie here, but I have just built one this afternoon!

I cut away the centre bump, filed away the floor Aquilla's, then using some Slaters 1:50 Treadplate Plastikard, this is preformed plastikard, with a raised markings. I used their part no 0447. I cut a piece to a pentagon, using the inverted GW part as a template, then came in about 2mm on all sides and then cut notches for the uprights of the Drop Pod. Looks pretty good, I'll see if I can get a picture up later.
