Lysimachus
Hello all, just wondering if the more experienced modellers can help me out with something. I've just bought a Drop Pod for (as the title suggests) my Dreadnought but I've never put one together before. I was looking at the instructions and wasn't sure if you could/should assemble it without the central 'computer' module which the infantry harnesses attach to? Logically it seems to me that a Dread-carrying pod wouldn't have space for the column or need the harnesses? Thanks in advance for any advice! Brother_Israfil
I didn't have any trouble putting together a couple of drop pods without all the harness-guts. They don't add anything as far as stability and/or guidance when it comes to mounting those fins (at least not as much as the doors themselves). Go for it! It'll be faster to assemble and paint this way. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219333-dreadnought-drop-pods/#findComment-2615838 Share on other sites
Tanhausen
I agree with Isafril. However, I'd suggest building the column and magnetizing it...you'll probably use the pod for infantry in the future :tu: Besided...it looks better and not so empty! Commander Sasha
Seeing as a Dread can't actually fit through the doorway of the model anyway, I wouldn't be too concerned about getting it wrong! Before you build, try bashing together a Dread-frame from sprue parts, see if you can make a good harness? Bartali
I'm aiming to build without the central column/harnesses for my Dread pods. The other option of course is the FW Dread Pod. Anyone had any experience with these ? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219333-dreadnought-drop-pods/#findComment-2615907 Share on other sites
Vindicatus
From what I remember, they actually MAKE dreadnought drop pods, but I can't for the life of me remember where to get them. You know they're the dreadnought ones because it only has three doors that are MUCH wider than normal, and it's a little more squat around the base than a standard drop pod. Hell, I could care less about the 'counts as' if you just didn't install the innards and used it like that. I believe they're both the same size once they touch down on the ground anyways, so I say go for it. Tanhausen
Probably the FW ones Bartali refers to... but IIRC they didn't look all that good B) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219333-dreadnought-drop-pods/#findComment-2615950 Share on other sites
Bartali
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-4000...T-DROP-POD.html I sometimes get tempted to buy a FW kit, but then the price and the amount of work it takes to build one puts me off. Call me lazy, but I don't fancy paying £56 and then spend an age cleaning, re-shaping, filing (with mask on !) and green stuffing the resin to build it. Lysimachus
Thanks guys! Yep, FW is definately beyond my level of time/skill/funds, think I'll go with the 'empty' plastic pod! Mr Perceptive
Newbie here, but I have just built one this afternoon! I cut away the centre bump, filed away the floor Aquilla's, then using some Slaters 1:50 Treadplate Plastikard, this is preformed plastikard, with a raised markings. I used their part no 0447. I cut a piece to a pentagon, using the inverted GW part as a template, then came in about 2mm on all sides and then cut notches for the uprights of the Drop Pod. Looks pretty good, I'll see if I can get a picture up later. asfargone
why a drop-pod? dreadnoughts are fully armored, just give it a thruster on front and retro-thruster on back and have it walk out the pod-bay door.....HAL!!! Mr Perceptive
Pictures as previously promised First one shows general view, the pod still needs to be tidied up prior to painting, the second shows the floor effect. asfargone
or better yet stick wings on it, it can flap its arms fast enough right? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219333-dreadnought-drop-pods/#findComment-2634838 Share on other sites

Korloth Darkwolf
Leaving the floor as is without the centre console doesn't look bad at all. I use a pod for a DC Dread. asfargone
yeah! that's awesome, now it just needs a small metal band on top playing their hearts out.
