Just a question about Prospero Burns

After reading PB, I have a question:

There are 2 Vasiliy in the book. One is a Captain, another a type of helper to Kasper, so, seriously, I might be kinda lost, are they related or somenthing?

I know they are minor characters but it REALLY bugs me, when I see TWO characters with the same name, I think they made some mistake.

I thought it was pretty clear that Isak Vasiliy is Captain Vasiliy's nephew (or at least very heavily implied during the flashback scene when she talks to Hawser about her family). That said it was fairly interesting that Vasiliy (a fairly common Russian first name) was used as a last name here.

I think Midgard got it.

In a conversation with Hawser, Captain Vasiliy had said something along the lines of "this is what is really important in life", and then showed Hawser a picture of her nephew. She also then said that she sent as much of her pay as possible to her sibling to support the child. Those who have read the book know what happened immediately following that conversation, and I thought it was a nice display of Hawser's character that he apparently sought out the nephew and offered support in other ways as something of a gesture to the Captain, for whom he clearly had feelings.

I like it, I have 4 mates called Dave

You're never more than six feet away from a Dave. Or something.

I think Midgard got it.

This exactly, I thought that was fairly obvious considering how much reference is made to Hawser's advancing age in the scenes where his assistant is mentioned, plus the constant wistful thoughts about the almost-girlfriend.
