*Furyou Miko
Hi, Well, originally my plan was to use purely parts from the Imperial Bastion kit, since I recently acquired a Stronghold box. However, upon examination the available components in that box were all far too large - they might fit a Thunderfire Tarantula, or a static Rapier Laser Destroyer, but the traditional twin-linked heavy bolters on a Tarantula are significantly smaller than that. In the end, I'm only actually using three pieces from the Bastion kit - the shock-absorber arms meant for one of the free-standing round bases. These will end up as 'back-up' for my Sisters, most likely, though they're mostly a modelling project for the sake of it. Pieces used: 3 Shock Absorber arms from the Imperial Bastion 2 Heavy Bolters from a Baneblade sponson (left over from a Multi-melta conversion) 1 Land Raider Lascannon cowl (from the old land Raider kit, before it got diversificated) 1 Sisters Rhino turret ring 2 Immolator turret sides (The Sororitas parts were left over from the Baneblade conversion) 1 Immolator Turret Front (again, the Baneblade conversion) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Kag...ts/HBTWiP01.jpg The pegs on the sides of the Immolator's turret have already been removed as part of a previous project, which makes this a little easier, as they'll be used to bulk out the Heavy Bolters and form the main chassis of the Tarantula: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Kag...ts/HBTWiP02.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Kag...ts/HBTWiP05.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Kag...ts/HBTWiP06.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Kag...ts/HBTWiP07.jpg Note that during the WiP, I've just held it together with blu tac! Through a careful process of whittling, the turret ring and the shock absorbers come together to form the Tarantula's base. The typical Tarantula has four legs, however - mine has three, because I only had six shock absorbers and I wanted to make two Tarantulas. You could just GS on three sockets, but if you have four 'legs' to use, the ring has four 'windows', perfectly spaced, and the more solid look the recessed feet give is a bonus. As for me? I made a stupid and miscounted the number of windows in the ring the first time, so my tripod is a bit of a messy combination of the two! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Kag...ts/HBTWiP03.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Kag...ts/HBTWiP04.jpg I used the front panel of the Immolator turret to form the back panel of the Tarantula turret. Of course, the heavy bolters are much narrower than the original turret, so I had to chop a big section out of the middle: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Kag...ts/HBTWiP08.jpg Then cut the top arch off: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Kag...ts/HBTWiP09.jpg The top halves go together to make the rear turret stabiliser: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Kag...ts/HBTWiP11.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Kag...ts/HBTWiP12.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/Kag...ts/HBTWiP13.jpg And now for the really hard part. Waiting for all that milliput I'm using because I can't work greenstuff to dry! hushrong
Pretty neat work you are doing. I may have to copy this one day as I would like one or two tarantulas for myself.
