Hi all, I'm a long time lurker here and thought, what the hell! I'll post a few pics and hopefully this will spur me on to paint more and complete the Blood Angels army I started a while ago. I've been very inspired by a lot of this forum's content up to now and love looking through the old threads when I get a chance. As said I'm doing Blood Angels, so I nicked my other halfs camera and took a few pics.

Thanks for looking. I only paint for about an hour or two at a time so these have taken a while!

These guys are sweeeeeet ! I really dig the way you have super small script on the tabards and seals. Looks great !! ..... How did you do the dirt/effect along the bottom of the tanks/tracks?

Thanks SoulTang :) The dirt effect on the tanks was built up bit by bit by drybrushing on scorched brown, then snakebite leather. No mixing, just put on very lightly with a 2" brush.

No problem, happy to share. I wanted my marines to look a bit darker than the usual GW brightness (although they are getting better) and wanted to take the boring part of painting out too. Hate doing basecoats by hand. Here's how I did them:

- Black spray undercoat

- Marabu Do-it Colorspray in Scarlet Red for an even basecoat (they do other colours too *hint hint*)

- Shading wash made of 50/50 Dark Flesh and Blood Red, with a spot of Chaos Black to darken it a bit

- Drybrush on Blood Red then Blazing Orange. This was done very lightly and built up over a few layers

- Liberal wash all over of Baal Red Wash

- Edge highlight with 50/50 Blazing Orange and Vomit brown

- Liberal Baal Red Wash again

I did the marines and tanks alike with this recipe :)

Quick update on my BA. I've been working on my Sanguinary Guard. Got all the armour and bases done, so just picking out the details now.

gorgeous looking Blood angel army you have there, your red is very nice! I like that you haven't gone overboard with BA bling, less is definitely more.

Your bases are rather cool, look to be made by yourself? I'd be interested to know where you get the majority of your basing bits from?

Thanks Blindhamster. Much appreciated! I like the dark look of the red too. The bases have all been done by myself, mainly using a mix of builders sand and path gravel off the steets, both being freely available and not costing me anything. I don't like the GW basing sand as I think it looks like the model's walking on rocks. Recently though I have paid out for some plastic I-beams and some GW barbwire (see the terminator bases) and got a pack of the 40K basing kit. I've used a piece of brass etch from this on the Sanguinor base (the rusty metal part) and some of the resin pieces. Even though, I've still mainly used the sand mix. The other rusty pipes on the bases are plastic lollypop tubes picked up of the streets too. These were cleaned first with near boiling water.
