Shrewsgod
I, Shrewsgod of the + INDEX ASTARTES +, vow on the honour of my Chapter to paint and present at least 11 Howling Griffons (1 librarian, 5 Scouts & 5 PA marines) on or before the 31st of March, 2011. I promise to provide at least two WIP updates, preferably with pictures, in that time. I vow that if I should fail, I will provide the Librarium with an article and wear the Signature of Shame until my penitence period is done. Inspired by this thread, I have decided to create a crusading space marine army based on the chapters present during the Badab Wars. For my LPC i am going to finish building and paint up the models below: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/hs038.snc6/166868_10150093467499208_590549207_6195025_5087859_n.jpg Reading the Lexicanum - Howling Griffons, i picked up on the fact the chapter had a "high number of powerful Battle-Psykers" puching me to have the Griffons led by a Librarian - WiP shown below: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs780.ash1/167068_10150093467659208_590549207_6195030_3523191_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs781.ash1/167165_10150093467594208_590549207_6195027_2319122_n.jpg As i progress with this little project i'll post further updates to try and keep me on track! Shrewsgod
A tiny bit of progress has led to the scouts now having heads (from the Space Wolves sprue), so they're happy, just need to add arms/weapons and finish the marines Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219540-my-lpc2011-wip/#findComment-2619510 Share on other sites

Shrewsgod
@chaplain belisarius: at the moment they don't seem that bad, but i'm sure there will be struggles as i get to the detail Finally got round to adding arms, undercoat and some basecoats. I've added highlight most of the Tactical Marine, with only one to do http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs893.ash1/180124_10150100805104208_590549207_6295237_7363639_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/hs059.snc6/168986_10150100804464208_590549207_6295206_5735738_n.jpg http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs752.ash1/164321_10150100804899208_590549207_6295226_672936_n.jpg As with everything i do, alway steam ahead with characters so the librarian has also had a coat of Iyanden Darksun applied. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/hs266.snc6/179402_10150100804644208_590549207_6295215_5504789_n.jpg http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs789.ash1/167912_10150100804764208_590549207_6295221_2748882_n.jpg All of the scouts have had the mechrite red applied to their quarters, so they look like the one below: http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs800.ash1/169067_10150100804999208_590549207_6295231_3456941_n.jpg sorry for the poor photos, my cameras batteries gave up the ghost as i took my first picture so i've resorted to using my phone. Shiroyama
Oooh good, Griffons!....... I was going to say you are making a rod for your own back priming in black my friend, but the yellow is looking nice and bright, so maybe you will pull it off. I look forward to seeing more. Mithril hound
I would prime them a dark brown and do multiple layers to get up to yellow and red. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219540-my-lpc2011-wip/#findComment-2639593 Share on other sites
Shadow Nugz
Looking good! With 45 Howling Griffins under my belt I can say that Ilyaden Darksun conquers all! I am curious as to what recipe you are using for your yellow (I use Ilyaden Darksun/ Yellow Ink/ Grypphone Sepia). Looking good, keep it up. Shiroyama
It's been a long time, but I used to undercoat white and start with spearshaft brown before adding white to get the highlights, once it was dry it got a glase of yellow ink. I will have to try some foundation yellow over black to see how that works. Shrewsgod
@Shadow Nugz: at the moment it's only one coat of Iyanden Darksun, but i'm planning to apply a sepia wash and then highlight up Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219540-my-lpc2011-wip/#findComment-2639982 Share on other sites
