Dark Apostle

Tzen

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to share some WIP, Since i posted my dread and such in the other forum, I thought I'd carry on posting and see what people think!

So! I finally had time to carry on with the green stuff work. It's a little untidy at the moment because of the nature of green stuff. I'm still in the process of cleaning up, and smoothing out the edges.

Lights a lil bad, despite my daylight lamp (which keeps turning itself off...), the pics would be better during the day! Ah well!

What do we think?

Now, the Aprostle himself I'm in two minds about.

Initially I thought Astorath would make a great Dark Apostle (and I still do) however loads of people have taken this idea, and I don't think it would make him unique enough as a commander. Im consdiring converting up my own from plastic bits.

Anyway here is the Apostle, what's peoples thought on it?

I kinda agree about the skull thing.

A normal skull is too small sadly, and this one I also feel is a "bit big".

I'm mainly working on the back pack at the moment, I plan on returning to the Crozius and the body of the Apostle once I've painted the wings. Something doesn't quite sit well with me regarding them both and I can't figure out what it is.

Ah it's a shame more people have done it; I always liked Astorath's armour purely because it reminds me of Dracula's armour from Francis Ford Coppola's movie. Which is weird, because I thought the movie sucked and the armour looked ridiculous. But somehow it works in the grimdark future of war and giant genetically-enhanced super warriors whose sole tactics are based on "being badass".

Anyway, I say go for Astorath and I actually think the crozius looks good..

Well, I wanted something looking like a daemon head on his crozius, but I wanted it to look unaffiliated with the big 4 gods, and something more generic so it could be an undivided daemon. I want the guy to look like a fallen Angel. I waited for ages for Astorath to come out because I wanted the Apostle to have been gifted the back pack during the Heresy from a Blood Angel captain as a thank you for a service rendered (ooo err) on the battlefield. I haven't really bulked the fluff out here, but the concept that the apostle (or Chaplain he would have been then) did some mighty favour for a Blood Angels lord of some sort is the key. I want the proud machinery and the artistry of the Blood angles to have eroded away, and the Apostle is slowly becoming more Daemonic, and the influence is corrupting his wargear. The Jump pack no longer works, the wings now grant him flight. The Crozius is slowly manifesting into the demon the Apostle will become...

The Crozius is slowly manifesting into the demon the Apostle will become...

this saves the crozius from being aweful...just finished reading the first heretic....essentially the crozius are shaped after lorgars...

but Having a deamon reside within is a nice justification for customization..

I like him ;)

Esspecially the wings :P

Just been working on the membrane. I had to play about with some colours to see which one I preferred. Sometimes it's hard to keep things interesting and use a limited palette!

The paint job on the jump pack looks great. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the model painted in this fashion. I'm not sold on the crozius, but I'll reserve judgement till after its painted. Looking forward to the results.

I really enjoy the way your 'Apostle' is developing!

Could you 'tack' the crozious on for a qick pic? I'm curious to see how the symmetry of the head looks like...

Can't wait to see more!!!

Not finished obviously! The skeletal part of the wings are too red. But I'll be fixing that today!

Not really sure if i like this to be honest.

Are you gonna paint the face as a face or as a mask?

I'm not sure how you mean?

I think I'll be painting him the same skin tone as his wings. The reason I did this was because Lorgar was meant to be "golden skinned" and I wanted to try and make it look like the skin tones matched, so it became more organic. If I'm totally honest I'd have loved my apostle to have had a hood, which is why I may go back and re do it, or just make a totally new apostle once the army is complete. I really wanna make a Thousand Sons army!

"My name is Tzen, and I make awesome comics and great models and paint like a living god, meh meh meh."

Seriously, great stuff, bud.

If only that were true!

Ta though Lex!
