Ok so i'm making my own chapter and started drawing some sketches up. Some of you may have seen the WIP and seen how picky i am...

 

I'm going to spend my time on this pencil drawing of one of the captains. It has no detail or anythign yet, but basic shapes and idea is there. Anywho, here's the proportional sketch. Does it look all the right sizes?

The elbow guard looks a bit "pointy". The greaves are a bit thin, I usually make mine a bit more flared. The sword looks a bit short, but that's just my personal taste.

The pointeness probably just look out of place atm because it is reudimentary shapes. I'm going to go for a very gothic medieval insprired artificer armour. So there will be spiky elbow guards etc

 

Anywho, here's some slightly thicker greaves (they look a lot thicker on the page in front of me tbh) and some more shape to the shoulders and stronger lines. Oh and added emperor pimp cane.

Was waiting for someone to point that out :L I've sorted that out now and made all the lines sharper. I aslo scrapped the pimp cane and gave him a trusty bolt pistol instead

Now if you'd all agree the proportions are fine i'll get on with the detailing

I'd rather see an axe with the head of it against the ground, but then I'm a huge fan of chopping people.. er.. enemies of the Imperium into multiple pieces.

D'oh.. In my mind I typed "rather than the Bolt Pistol or Pimp Cane 'o Doom" as well.

I'm trying to inject my own creativity here and avoid following what other artists have already done. So i'm taking inspiration from lots of historical source material. The sword is inspired by the Roman legionaires Gladius. Just on a bigger scale lol.

 

And Juan that's an easy mistake to be made, but i have a thing for overkill and i couldnt stomach having two close combat weapons xD He's a marine for crying out loud. If he needs another weapon he can smash skulls with his fist

Reminds me of indiana jones when the guys swinging his swords round and Indy shoots him. Imagine that with a space marine towering above a tiny tau swinging his swords and the Tau just shoots him....

It's less actively following and more that I spend far too much time posting things and reading threads :D

 

Also, frickin' awesome! I'd love to se GW do a line of minis with that kind of detail.

I love the armor.

The face looks a bit strange though, the ears look a bit far forward. And the hair is, strange.
