UltraRich
Evening This weekend a set of Guitar strings arrived that I bought of ebay for £2. I now have a meter of 5 sizes upto a 6th so Im now set for all types of cable. I couldnt wait to get started so I put this together as a break from my vow painting. Ive still got the heal to do and to shorten the foot but Im going to base it first so it interacts with the terrain. I might also add a ball joint at the hip because a the moment its just stuck in there. Any C and C and pics of yours would be welcomed. Note the arms and head are only tacked on as reference. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/Picture051.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/Picture052-1.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/Picture049.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219686-first-attempt-at-bionics/ Share on other sites
GooseDaMoose
It looks good. What's the rest of his thigh made of? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219686-first-attempt-at-bionics/#findComment-2620884 Share on other sites
UltraRich
It looks good. What's the rest of his thigh made of? Its thin modeling wire which is covered in white plastic. this was bent like an L to make the knee. this was passed through a drilled styreen tube to make the knee. (the horizontal bit with GS in the middle) this then had the same size tube stuck on at either side of the knee to make the joint. I shaved the back and foot of a marine leg to make the front armour plate. It was then a case of GSing the foot and hip joint and then going crazy with the guitar string and trying not to overdo it. ShotgunFacelift
Great scratch building work with the knee joint. The only gripe I have is that it looks a bit too spindly, adding a plate to the thigh region facing forward wouldnt hurt. But thats just my preference. Lexington
As others have said, the thigh could use a bit more beefing up, but the general aesthetic here is great, especially for a first-timer. UltraRich
Thanks guys I had a look at making a plate from the old leg but it wouldnt fit so I ended up GSing one. Let me know what you think http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/Picture053-2.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/Picture055-2.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/Picture056-1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219686-first-attempt-at-bionics/#findComment-2622118 Share on other sites
Terminatorinhell
That looks much better man, I think I should start practicing on bionics too, though I need guitar wire... tiny sam
never been a fan of exposed bionic so I realy like the armored bionic look you achieve Good job Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219686-first-attempt-at-bionics/#findComment-2625739 Share on other sites
Lexington
Great addition here. The fact that you actually modeled the whole thing, inside and out, shows well here and makes the piece that much more convincing. It's also subtle enough that some might not notice it at first, but it reveals itself on the full view. Love it! Grizzly Adams
looks great! with that thigh plate there, that should solve your ball joint/hip problem  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219686-first-attempt-at-bionics/#findComment-2625760 Share on other sites
celes
I've always wondered why the chapter's techmarines go to all the trouble of constructing a prosthetic limb for a bad-ass marine and then not bothering to slap a few armour plates on the damn thing. Then again I've always wondered why you can even see a bionic arm, as the whole thing really should fit into a power armour chassis anyway. This is the best bionic job I've seen in a while, and the first to really make any sense, well done. UltraRich
Well I managed to get some paint onto this mini this weekend. Ive concentrated on the bionic leg so there is still all of the battle damage/highlighting and backpack to do. Heres how its looking with some paint on it. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/Picture058-1.jpg Here he is with the WIP arms http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/Picture060-1.jpg It should be finished in the next few nights so I'll post one more update once complete Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219686-first-attempt-at-bionics/#findComment-2630758 Share on other sites

UltraRich
3 words: that..is...awesome! :D outstanding work man! how long did it take you to do the leg? Wisey :) Not that long. It was definately a "make it up as you go along" build. The inital leg was built while watching a film on my PC so that must have taken a couple of hours. The sculpt of the plate took half an hour. Its the painting that takes me an age. Ive finished the bolt pistol arm so Im going to tackle the powersword later and paint it like this one. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/Untitled-1copy-6.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219686-first-attempt-at-bionics/#findComment-2633532 Share on other sites
UltraRich
Ok so Ive not really had much time to spend on this one as Ive had big work commitments but Ive managed to get the powersword done to a standard Im happy with. This involved a load of red and black washes and wet blending but I think it turned out ok. Im tempted to do a lighting effect on the eagle and face as the swords so close but I think Id just make a mess of it so maybe not. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/Picture068.jpg Ive just noticed my U's a bit wonky too! http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/Picture066.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219686-first-attempt-at-bionics/#findComment-2636910 Share on other sites
