Newtype
I was playing around with bits and pieces to see if I could come up with a Master of the Forge equipped with the conversion beam. Now I have been trying to use the plastic bits I have on hand along with recycleing some of my unused models as well and this is what I have put together. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n212/Donnewtype/Space%20Marines/MasterofForgewBeamRightView.jpg http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n212/Donnewtype/Space%20Marines/MasterofForgewBeamLeftView.jpg http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n212/Donnewtype/Space%20Marines/MasterofForgewBeamFront.jpg He is not very Tech Marine looking right now but I am pleased in how the gun looks. I'll try to get the gun basecoated and weathered for the next time and maybe add some armour plate detail. All for now. The Neophyte of War
Holy Carp that is ridiculously awesome! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219819-conversion-beam/#findComment-2622461 Share on other sites
Br0ther Rafen
not only is that rediculusly(sp?) massive, that is so freaking AWESOME! nice conversion man, my only critique is that you make the "barrel" of the gun a little bit shorter, since that is super big. But still, nice job :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219819-conversion-beam/#findComment-2622572 Share on other sites
Solid Zaku
This is a gun that actually gets better as it's fired FURTHER AWAY. It goes from a plasma gun to something a Titan wouldn't balk at. Keep this gun the way it is, the size is good IMHO. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219819-conversion-beam/#findComment-2622663 Share on other sites
Firepower
 Sweet Emperor's Mercy man! Well...yeah, it's big...and definitely cool looking. I would try and find some way to make it look a bit more "realistic" (always feel silly using that term in 40k) to convey the weight of that monster. A servo harness with one arm holding up that beast would be an interesting solution I think. Newtype
Ok. I thought about your suggestion brother Firepower and added the servo arm to give the gun more heft. And it works! Here are two new pictures of my Master of the Forge. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n212/Donnewtype/Space%20Marines/ConversionBeamerwithservoarm.jpg and with a bolt pistol for detail. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n212/Donnewtype/Space%20Marines/MasteroftheForgereadytopaint.jpg He`s now ready for paint I think. But instead of red, I may do the helmet white just to break things up a bit. I`m also thinking of leaving the connector pins bare as well. The bare metal would be a nice contrast to the black body. So I`m guessing that there are some other folks here who work in aviation as well? I`m an aircraft mechanic working in Toronto. And just for fun, here's the "Who wants some!" picture. Looking down a barrel full of hurt. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n212/Donnewtype/Space%20Marines/WhowantssomeMasteroftheForgewConversionBeamer.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219819-conversion-beam/#findComment-2630517 Share on other sites
Commander Sasha
OK, it's driving me mad...where are those pins from? I know I've built an audio multicore with them... Firepower
Ahhh what a beauty...see what happens when you listen to ol' Firepower? :P How do you know you've got the best gun in the army? Because it takes three arms to handle all that hurt :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219819-conversion-beam/#findComment-2630679 Share on other sites
Newtype
My Master of the Forge is painted. A late night session has him finished with just a little work left to do on the base. So now for your viewing pleasure I give you the Master of the Forge. Profile Shot: http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n212/Donnewtype/Space%20Marines/MasterofForgePaintedrightview.jpg Looking down the barrel of hurt: http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n212/Donnewtype/Space%20Marines/MasterofForgePaintedFrontView.jpg Back view: http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n212/Donnewtype/Space%20Marines/MasterofForgePaintedBackView.jpg I've been thinking of doing a squad of converted Marine Scouts for his servitors. We'll see. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219819-conversion-beam/#findComment-2639789 Share on other sites
rusty1109
The black parts of the gun are crying out for a good drybrush of boltgun metal or something. Also I would have filled the witness hole on the electrical pins, just looks a bit unsightly. Love the model as a whole though! d503
Needs more gun :P only kidding, nice mini. I would recommend a 40mm base - will he stand on an incline otherwise? Kassill
My only two critiqes is that it is not over his shoulder like I imagined it (personal opinion  ) and that your MotF doesnt look too...techy? Otherwise, the beamer looks SICK! :ermm: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/219819-conversion-beam/#findComment-2640163 Share on other sites
Newtype
Thanks for the kind words. To deal with the issue of inclines, I superglued a nickel under the base. This was a trick I used with a squad of four Plasma Cannons. The old style metal ones always tipped over. The other thing was that when I read the stats of the conversion beamer; I didn't picture a shoulder mounted weapon but a big gun. In my mind I hear the wave motion gun from Space Battleship Yamato, or the BFG gun from good old Doom. Huge plasma sphere of death kind of thing. As for him not being very "techy" looking Brother Kassill, I wasn't really keen on giving him all the cables, hoses and stuff. My background has my Marines declared traitors by the Admech and I see that as a reason to throw off all the trappings of the machine god. Or I just couldn't be bothered since I was inspired to build the conversion beam with what I had on hand. I always try to do what I can with plastic since it is easier to work with. Anyway, the base should be easy to finish and then a post of an actual finished figure. Hazaa! Dark Scipio
Great conversion job on the gun. But I think the Marine looks to plain, just like any Devastator. Perhaps use the Techmarine heads from Choruns or the vehicle sprue. The Ravenwing sprue has a nice one. Leonidus
That is freaking awesome gun on that techmarine dude!!! My only crit would be the lack of techmarine styley armour or plating. On the whole a damn fine model! And the lighting effect is kick ass too!!!
