Rayza09
Hey, just want to say im new here (first post) and im sorry if this is a bad section to post in. Like many I dislike the Khârn the Betrayer model, and want to convert one to my liking. I figured out why I dislike it, in the codex the sketch of Khârn is brutal and its because of "Gorechild". The sketch shows Gorechild as approx. 2/3rds the size of Khârn (as if it is a 2 handed weapon) with a rectangular handle (not smoothed/rounded), while the actual model pretty much has a regular Chainaxe. I have been looking into a way to create a more identical Gorechild from 2 Chain Axes from the Berzerker kit. Khârn Sketch http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/8030/kharn.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us 1. Just a regular Chain axe from Zerker Sprue http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/1097/56172292.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us 2. Chopped off head of axe (just pole remaining) and chopped off hand from another axe (to leave pole with axe head). Combined to make longer Chain Axe http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/8107/82289735.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us 3. Added the top half of an axe (edited to look nicer as if its been filed, picture the pole to be rectangular after being filed). Notice how Gorechild has no tassle on the end of it, thats why I removed it. However, do you think a tassle looks better on it? http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/2313/83150478.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us This is how I imagine this Gorchild would look on a model, its around the length of a Chain Sword http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/8270/4onmodel.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us This is a version with even more length http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/9060/42654208.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us Just looking for peoples comments and suggestions. What do you think of it? Is the longer one better? I feel it would be too large on a model and be going overboard. I did this on paint so its going to look different (hopefully better) in real life when I begin creating it. If you have any other decent looking Gorechild conversions please post them. BUILDING Khârn FROM SCRATCH: I am building the Khârn model from a regular Berzerker, im thinking of purchasing a Space Marine Commander cape (rear torso half) because I think it would look great. Im still not sure what to do about the head though. I also want to make Kharns plasma pistol have 2 holes/barrels like in the sketch too (maybe without the power chord attached). Should I make him running? I have a spare Chaos Terminator Lord scenic base I may use and a Chaos Lord backpack with the trophy racks. Just looking for thoughts and opinions. Help inspire me! :cuss Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/220038-kharn-the-betrayer-conversion-gorechild-scale/ Share on other sites
Andurin Marvak
Actually, what might be better is adding length to the bottom as well as the top. One section of the size you've cut in each direction should make a suitable large axe that doesn't look like it's being swung by a mental midget. Rayza09
not a bad idea, but im trying to base the Gorechild off of the picture. Khârn doesn't hold the axe half way up, it wouldn't be as strong if he did Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/220038-kharn-the-betrayer-conversion-gorechild-scale/#findComment-2625833 Share on other sites
Br0ther Rafen
Well, if it HAS to be at the end of the axe, then I would shorten a little bit so that it doesn't look like Kharne is trying to swing an axe the length of a spear (which is what it would be to scale). Not to much though, just a bit so that it looks MASSIVE, but still to scale with you model. Also, with the Scratch build, try using an Ork arm for his non armoured shoulder. It will look very realistic. Hope this helps. Alphz
I love the old model! But it is far to static for Khârn... In terms of length, I agree that instead of lengthening the haft more, you should add a bit more handle (so it can be wielded two handed). I intend to resculpt the old model axe using some brass wire - like stuff and was also thinking about elongating it. I'm not sure about the head as I really like the old one, and normal chainaxes don't seem to do it justice. As for the arm, I intend to use a marauder arm and maybe bulk it out with some greenstuff. Rayza09
I don't intend to leave an arm exposed... I know the model and character have it, but to my knowledge theres no big reason why he leaves it exposed and I prefer the look of the armored arm Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/220038-kharn-the-betrayer-conversion-gorechild-scale/#findComment-2627185 Share on other sites
Solid Zaku
Actually, people who use axes know it's better to hold it closer to the center if you're actually intending on hitting something other than yourself. Considering he's been fighting unholy war for ten thousand years, I'm sure he's figured this out by now.
