LPC Company Master

Quite possibly the smallest (and no doubt the saddest) entry, my anonymous Company Master will be the focus of this challenge. I'll be using the model with the ridiculous sword and old-school feathered bezerker helmet. This shall be my first WIP post.

I joined the project to motivate myself into finishing this guy, as he's been black, stripped, and ignored for years. The helmet was lost to another model, so I'll end up shoving the bare hooded head from the ravenwing kit on.

The sword will be my sad attempt at NMM. So far the best result I've come up with so far is a rather nice looking stone, so I'll settle for a stone bladed bastard sword. I'll post my PIP dreadnought when I deem it photo ready, so anyone interested can see what this looks like.

Base is undecided as of now, so I guess suggestions would be great.

I'm sure there is something else I should be posting. I seems like it would sort of be a big deal, but I can't for the life of me remember what it is.

------After reading the entry thread again, there is a temptation to bomb this and start working on an article. Those trading cards look sexy ;) I'm not actually going to take the dive, but it feels as if that last slot on the prize requirements seems like a juicy incentive. I'm going to assume some jealous chapter is plotting against the Emperor's First.

Ah yes, I remember now that isn't 5am.

I started working on this fellow long ago, but it wasn't until recent cleaning did I find his missing sword hilt. Found the gray sculpting epoxy, so I guess I ought to finish the cape and waist.

I've also taken some pictures of the dreadnought to show how the sword should look.

Sigh, when life gets you down, you know what you gotta do? Just keep swimming...

Glued blade to hilt, and skull to handle.

Put the whole guy together and tac'ed the chain, head, and pack on. The chain was a recent addition, so the badge (iron halo equivalent?) sticks out too much as of now. Still need to sculpt some more folds into the cape.

Guess I haven't said it yet, though I'm sure it won't make a difference. Questions and comments are always appreciated. Suggestions for a good base are still more than welcome.

Quick worded update here. I became distracted, but I guess I'll get back to work on these models. The moral support is through the roof, that's for sure ;) . I found a proper head for the smaller captain, and I added folds to the shoulder of the cape. I'm sick of sculpting as it has taken too much time, so painting of the true scale model will begin shortly.

I was wondering how long it would take for you to mention that :eek

Interesting project, I'm looking forward to the finished project. Pictures pwease?

Don't worry LardO'Blood, I won't hold out on posting pictures. I've also found a better method to taking them, so don't expect anything as blurry as that last posted image.

I'm glad I rushed into putting paint on the model. The layers of paint cover up most of the little imperfections of sculpting.

I also pinned both the hooded face and the feathered helmet, so both models can interchange whenever the mood strikes me.

Started on the white wings for the chest and the feathered helmet. The chest is bothering me as the details on the right aren't well defined.

As for the helmet I was going to do the traditional white with colored tips, blue in this case. The only problem is that I'm liking the blue as it is, and my brush is refusing to paint on the upper edges without the paint running into the creases.

I've also wondered on how to draw more attention to get criticism or tips. Perhaps I should change the title to "More Terminator FAQ Discussion" so everyone can have the same opinion here too.

Sorry to everyone of the DA forums if any of my post have been inflammatory. My humor doesn't carry well into the toneless internet, so I'll try to keep all my posts simple and to the point.

Alright, I manned up and painted the chest and helmet wings. It didn't come out half as bad as I had predicted.

I've also started the cape, which is now my main concern. I'm mostly bugged because if you haven't been able to notice, I like to stick to 2 paints for every colored object on my minis. I've never been too good at white fabrics, but I'm guessing I need to paint the creases in a Muddy Brown and Aged Bone mix, and then do a thin line of Muddy in the deepest recesses. If those colors don't ring a bell, it's because they're from Reaper paints, but they're basically a Scorched Brown replica, and a very dark bleached bone. Perhaps I'll read into that new Robes thread someone posted here.

I'm also ignoring the bit where I have to freehand the winged sword on the cape, which shouldn't be too hard seeing as it will be my first freehand attempt ever...

-----edit------

Sorry, I broke my rule and attempted humor. Please forgive me.

You asked for comments so now don't hate me.

I like the blue feathers, and the way your green slides into black, the cloak however just doesn't do it as it looks to much like a fat slab, so you need to work on the moddeling of that.

Appart from that though it's comming along very well, this is a re-make of the DA captain model of a while ago?

On the contrary, someone finally giving out criticism after 3 1/3 weeks is nice. Now if you had bad mouthed my transition metals lightbox, that'd be another story

Yes, it's the remade model from GW, seen here:

I agree that the cloak could have used more folds, but if you could find my original thread (doubt it as BnC doesn't show threads made by users that are more than a few months old) you'd see I've been stuck on this freakin' model for a long time. I have a somewhat large collection of one-off models, but not many were ever finished. I'm using this LPC to persuade myself into to getting it done once and for all.

I do intend to break up the large open surfaces if you think that would make it less slab-like. That jagged edge may get turned into a crease if I can paint a deceiving brown line ending there. I'll also have the back pack and the large sewn-on winged sword to break up the bleak open areas.

Thank you again for posting, providing criticism, and your encouraging words.

----searched------

Just did a thorough search of the other site I frequent. I started him back in April of 2009. While this photo isn't the very first, it was still during the initial weeks of construction.

Sorry for the wordy response.

Again, thank you krewl for taking the time to provide positive criticism. I've been working on that bit flat space, and I'm hoping that by just painting anything in there it will end up less noticeable.

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r120/Jaffar_Hasad/Dark%20Angels/HPIM1239.jpg

Started the freehand on the chapter symbol. I'm probably going to paint white over the winged part and try that again. I probably should have made stencils for this first. Oh well.

for freehands I always advice to do what I do. CHEAT!

Draw your shapes with a pencil first and paint it over later, that way you get way shaprer lines.

It's called freehand, but no one is going to scratch off your paint to see if you drew a shape first.

I agree painting it up will break the flat space, and it's easier to try then to re-model the cloak.

Advice is all in my opinion, feel free to ignore it ;)

I'd break from the base colour cape you have now and go for more bleached bone then a skull white, as bleached bone has the more robe-y feel about it. (Where my skull wites are either not covering good enough or to thick so you see blobs and all.) It's not only that I like the colour better (And think it would look better on your model) but also that it covers better for a simpeler smoother finish.

If you paint the cape's freehand on it first you can judge simitry and shape before you need to fix up with paint.

Then the red symbol you can do with a dark purple first, paint in with a mixed in red/purple then a smaller line on the middle in the purer red. (To add some depth to your shapes without sculpting it)

Again, that's how I would try it, but I am no master painter. So screw it up at your own risk, but good luck and keep us posted.
