The Fists of the Fourth

To each their own I guess. The next guardian will be a bit more dark/orange, similar to the Marines Malevolent color scheme. Since I have you here though, I would like to say that I love how your Sons of Orar came out. They are quite striking; it almost makes me want to try to paint something red.

After taking those photos I realized that my green paints also kicked the bucket. I'll need to stop in at the store and pick up a few of those. Hopefully next time I won't accidentally get suckered into buying a baby tank.

Yay, page 3!

Like I said, it's just a personal preference. Could be down to the photos too, as the marine above has a much nicer tone of yellow IMO. Really good shading and highlighting too, almost blended.

Ps. Thanks! :whoops:

You might want to ignore the later step where I add the bright Lemon Yellow reaper paint.

I found the tutorial. I'm going to link it here as a reminder to myself. I am sure there might be a few lurking sons of Dorn out there who could use it too.

AlanofAngels' great freehand tutorial.

I've done some clean up work on the next model. I made the boot leggins less chaotic, defiled a Black Templar shoulder pad for no apparent reason, and figured out where some bits will go. The beakie helmet will hang off the model's left shoulderpad, which should cover the gigantic gap that all terminator shoulder pads have.

Here is the face of the second Honor Guardian:

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r120/Jaffar_Hasad/Dark%20Angels/HPIM1317.jpg

I would have liked to do my usual Drill Through Helmet and Put Head In deal that can be seen in my avatar pic, but I'm not sure if having 2 in the army would be a bit much. What's your take Mr 1000?

The positioning of the arms is going to be quite tricky. The blade attachment is something I need feedback for though. Here's the bolter pre-bladed:

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r120/Jaffar_Hasad/Dark%20Angels/HPIM1314.jpg

Here it is with the spike and under slung grenade launcher (please note that I will be cutting off the hand grip on the bolter to make room):

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r120/Jaffar_Hasad/Dark%20Angels/HPIM1315.jpg

Here is the second option, with a chainblade bayonet (same deal with the hand grip):

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r120/Jaffar_Hasad/Dark%20Angels/HPIM1316.jpg

Those are the two choices thus far. Any thoughts?

Hmm, lets see... first, I love your choice of chestplate. That was always my favorite bit, good call. Second, I dig the head with it's mohawk, but I'm not entirely wild about the bandana to be honest. Third, the spike bayonet is probably my perfered choice. Finally, lemon yellow is delicious, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

And would Veteran-Brother Mikal work instead?

Good news and bad. On a positive note, I was able to remove the bandana.

I regret to inform you though that Brother Mikal is now the ugliest space marine in my collection.

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r120/Jaffar_Hasad/Dark%20Angels/HPIM1319.jpg

Jumbo forehead, sunken eyes, and jutting lower jaw. I think those might be symptoms of a certain disorder. The blade skipped while shaving off the bandana and managed to put a line down the model's left half of the face, so it should make for an impressive scar. I need to study the Glory and Hate thread to try to pick up the finer points of painting dirty, disgraceful armor.

@1000heathens or any Marines Malevolent owner: Is there any room in your background for a campaign involving the Imperial Fist's 8th company? I was hoping to make some back story to the model, something involving a blood-debt between the chapters, and a swapping of armor to symbolize this. (Perhaps for once you could paint a yellow marine and not befoul it's beautiful color?)

That didn't feel like it was a good enough update to me. I decided to glue fiddly bits together finally, so I should be able to actually pose the model using only pins in a day or two.

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r120/Jaffar_Hasad/Dark%20Angels/HPIM1320.jpg

Noob-tube is securely superglued, can't tell if the bayonet will hold until the GS dries, glued and reseamed the spike rack, and I added studs to the jumbo-pad. The square plate will be shaved to resemble a certain chapter symbol for his heraldy, and if I don't have space on the model's luscious hips the helmet will hang off the back of the jumbo-pad.

Do not expect a painting update tomorrow. I don't have the green needed for the grenades and laurel, so why bother doing anything?

I hate sticky tac. It seems that whenever you add a new bit to the model, a previously added bit falls off. I almost lost the head, and I bent the bayonet at the attachment point while trying to pose the model.

This is the pose I intend to finish the model with. When the epoxy dries, I'll be able to glue everything down and add decorative bits.

It will be very saddening when I add all the dried blood and rust.

Nice. Personally, I don't see much wrong with that head from the pictures, admittedly it's not quite as 'heroic' as the basic GW heads, but that's not really a bad thing. Also, it's interesting that you've built up your white from blue, I'll have to try that out.

How do you plan to do your blood/rust? Inks, paint, or some other method?

Now that I think about it, I have no idea how I'm going to do the rust. I guess I'll mix Sepia ink with a drop of Baal and see if it looks alright. I think I might need to slap on a bunch of bits to break up the larger surfaces, and then add tons of bullet holes and scrapes with my knife and drill.

For the blood I just selectively add Baal red, like I did to the Terminator with his face blown off. If that doesn't show well through the less bright yellow, I'll mix in some red paint and let it sort of dry before painting it on.

If I have you here Zincite, you could always give a suggestion for the next model, and choose it over Mr. Purple rims.

Ahh, I see. If you needed the blood to stand out more (and if you can find it) the old Magenta Ink is good for bright red blood, particularly if you apply it over Baal red.

As suggestions for a model, I've alway thought this pose was pretty awesome. Bolter in right hand, chainsword/combat blade in the other.

Or if you wanted a more 'neutral' position, the pose of this guy on the right is nice, as if he's going to ram someone with his shoulder pad, and almost seems to convey a aura of Leadership. Could look good with a bare head as well, emphasizing the armour.

Also much easier to model, e.g none required from the basic marine. Just my thoughts, so disregard me if you feel the need.

Have you made any progress on the painting?

Ahh, rust...my favorite. My mix for my MM's goes as such: one part dark flesh, one part scab red, and one part blazing orange, then water this mix down to the consistancy of a wash, if not a touch thinner than that. Brush it over the bare metal parts, let dry, and use straight dark flesh (slightly watered down) to create rust streaks. very lightly drybrush boltgun metal over the steel, just enough to return some sparkle to the metal through the rust. To finish it off, I use Tamiya Rust weathering powder, but that optional. Voila!

As for the Campaign, I'm not sure it would fit too well. The MM would need some dang good reasons to stay around, possibly the promise of fresh armour / Ammo / etc, or else they'd go skipping off to the next warzone quick. I've always seen the MM's as isolationists, better to get away with theft and indescriminate fire that way. And I'm not entirely sure they'd ever honour a debt of any sort, unless they were getting something out of it of course. Add to that, the IF use filthy Librarians, and the MM still follow the Nikea Edict strictly. That'd cause some serious friction, probably ending in blood.

On a side note, I've got an ugly mug as is, so it's pretty realistic, lol. Loving the look so far, keep it up man!

@1000heathens: I think I have all of those colors, or a close equivalent. Thank you, I should be able to start painting before next week. "That'd cause some serious friction, probably ending in blood." Tee hee

@Zincite: That Khârn pose is serious business. I'll do a rough up after I get started on the second marine's paintjob. I'm currently making a mk5 helmet, so with heresy armor this model could end up being very menacing.

---edit---

I feel terrible when posts don't include pictures.

Found a solution to the shoulderpad problem. Turns out the jumbo saw bit doesn't agree with the exhaust vents of the backpack. I used ForgeWorld's method of dealing with that sort of problem...

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r120/Jaffar_Hasad/Dark%20Angels/HPIM1325.jpg

Deny the problem, chop it up and make a confusing reposition.

Here's that helmet so far. Still needs 2 more rows of nubs, and I might chop off the cheek things and make it look a bit more like the FW model.

Oh my what a lovely shade of yellow you have there.

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r120/Jaffar_Hasad/Dark%20Angels/HPIM1330.jpg

So that's now two models that are almost tabletop worthy. One more and it is technically a squad. Sorry to any followers who were expecting serious progress on this army.

Thought I recognized that style from somewhere. I just recently stripped my old command squad's techmarine of paint, so I guess that's where the idea came from.

Holy balls it was hot out today. I'm praying for a mega-storm as it almost reached 100*F today, the humidity was through the roof, and I don't have air conditioning in this domicile. The paints dry too quickly on the palette, and my epoxy is also suffering. The hardener black half was as squishy as the white bit, so that can't be good for curing time.

  • 3 weeks later...

Started two new models that have nothing to do with the command squad.

and

I've been slacking due to laptop failures and other interests. I might take a break and pump out a single Scythes of the Emperor in true scale, so don't be alarmed when something out of place turns up.

Thank you for following.

Threw together some bits to make my first IF Librarian.

Nothing special. The dremeling of such a nice model was sort of depressing, the newer plastic GKT's are too nice to use if I ever restart my GK force.

The scything talon broke off, but I think I like it better this way. I'll just GS some mechanical bit to fill the gap.

Sapphire Blue with a Baal wash. Came out better than I thought it would.

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r120/Jaffar_Hasad/Dark%20Angels/HPIM1335.jpg

Followed up with an A-holeMan Blue. I'm sort of bummed I have to lighten up the model, but if I kept it this way and painted his hands red I feel this would be a perfect Crimson Fist scheme.
