WIP - Scions of Dorn

Recommended Posts

I am not a pro painter by any stretch of the imagination, and after taking the photos I can already see my paints were to thick but before I dive in deep on any further models i would like some tips/critics on what is here.

First up is my corrupted Honorum. I marred up his face and put in what will be rusted steel bars for horns. The blade will have ghostly faces rolling up it once I am done but I don't know...it feels like it's missing something but I don't want to go to over the top with the model and it be closer to a saluting demon prince over just a corrupted statue.

An here was a paint on a whim turned project. The writers of the Dornian Heresy did an awesome job and it sort of inspired me one day when I saw my old can of Daemonic Yellow Army Painter primer. I think the can was to close, or more likely the paints I was using were to old and chunky and I didn't use enough water to break it up. Either way it's a tester. More to come, I would like to see a full squad of them for no other reason then just because. So give me any insight before I continue on with others please.

At last! I've been waiting to see someone do Dornian Heresy Imperial Fists and he looks great, but perhaps a bit too bright. I would suggest toning it down a little to a pale gold like Dorn's armor in the banner at the top of this page.

P.S. The Red Corsairs icon would make a great chaos version of the Imperial Fist Legion symbol.

Sat down this weekend and put together another fig for the Dornian Heresy. I stayed away from the army painter spray can (and I think it helped keep the "thickness" of the paints down) and just used a standard GW white primer. I also moved towards a more mustardy yellow then neon giving them a darker feel.

I looked over the Dornian Heresy right up and the GW Imperial Fist fluff and decided to opt for the shield motif on him. I wanted to give him a bit more flavor then the other tester model and felt the shield gave a sense of seige and defense that the Imperial Fist have been known for. The purple tongue on the daemon shield is a throw back to noticing Dorn had a deep purple cloak in the photo in the Dornian Heresy pdf. I think I will helt the purple be brighter in future model (plays well against the yellow).

I present Brother Adonus.

Well as everyone mentioned before I loved what you did with the statue and the flesh tone you have going on with the first marine's arm. As for the bright armor I was indifferent. Honestly looked fine to me. After seeing the new model's duller tone I'd have to pick that over the first. I'd say in points that you want to stand out, maybe use the brighter yellow or color in general... like maybe make the eyes and tongue of the demon face brighter, or maybe the chest vent... that sort of thing.

Hope to see more!

The yellow is ever so slightly chunky, but it's still very nice to see some Dornian Heresy Scions of Dorn, I always imagined them to have the same colors as the Imperial Fists, I can't wait to see more.

Nice work! :P I have not seriously considered what the Dornian Heresy Scions of Dorn colourscheme would be, to be honest. The norm-'verse Scions of Dorn are my own DIY chapter (link to their IA and some pictures in my signature) who got a cameo in the Dornian Heresy historical overview, but their genesis is completely different in this alternate reality.

So rather than the dark green armour, the DH Scions of Dorn would quite possibly retain armour similarities to the Heresy Era Imperial Fists, including at least some of their yellow colour scheme... they after all see the Black Legion as having turned their back on their primarch's legacy. :)

Great work - it is always really interesting to see how people are representing the Dornian Heresy legions in miniature form. :)

Cheers,

Aurelius.
