Plasma Gun Question

Hear da Lamentation

When you rapid fire with a plasmagun - how do you do the rolls to check if it "gets hot"?

Do you

1. Roll each shot singly. If so, and you get a 1 on the 1st shot, but save - do you get to roll for second shot?

2. Roll both dice together. If so, if either dice gets a 1, do you still get the shot which hits, or do neither hit.

My DW mate I played yesterday says you roll both together - either of them gets a 1 and you don't get to shoot at all and have to save.

This seems the harshest of the possible options (unsurprisingly). My feeling is that it is option 1.

The latter. Roll both dice together. For each 1 that comes up you miss and get hot. This doesnt prevent you in any way from hitting with the other die. Gets hot no longer prevents you from shooting unless you are a blast weapon *like plasmcannons*.

Pg. 31 of the core rulebook *BRB/BBB* covers all of this.

To be even more precise, if you have two identical troops in a unit with plasma guns and they both rapid fire, you roll two sets of two dice. You cannot just roll 4 dice at once, with all the dice the same color.

If you look in the rulebook, Gets Hots ONLY can wound the person firing the weapon. So you need to know who rolled the one(s). If one gun rolls two ones, comes up snake eyes, then that specific model has to save two wounds. You DO NOT transfer one of the wounds to someone else in the same squad. That is actually explicitly against the rules.

I have a question:

If 5 people shoot 2 plasma shots each, how do you do it? Do you roll 10 dice, or do your roll 2 x 5, once for each marine?

Legally, you have to do 2x5 (or 10 dice at once, with 5 pairs of different colors!).

Remember, a Get's Hot only wounds the person firing that weapon. So anytime one gun rolls two Get's Hot, it can ONLY wound the model that fires it. You cannot give one of his Get's Hot wounds to someone else. If you roll all the dice together of all one color, there is no way to know who, if anyone, rolled two ones!

If you rapid fire 6 combi-plasmas, odds of a snake-eyes result on one guy are about 1/6. So if you roll the wrong way (12 dice at once), 1 out of 6 times you will cause yourself trouble, and potentially lose two marines instead of the one you were supposed to. You could of course ignore this, roll everything all at once, and you opponent will thank you for giving yourself a slight disadvantage.

Yeah - thanks again for the clarification there guys. LOL, with my plasma rolling I need the lesson. One of my plasma guys has killed himself on his 1st shot the last 4 games ! I played last night and my plasmacannon longfang rolled 3 1's on the trot (but luckily managed all saves).
