Size of pink horror squads

Hi all,

Along with another question that I am sure has been answered in the hearts and minds of many daemon players before.

Whats the better size for Pink Horror squads? I have tried them in squads of 5 with Bolt but they seem a little too easy to destroy. However having a unit of 10 seems a little too big and if they get assaulted thats a whole lot of daemons that are going to get wiped out.

How do others prefer to play them? Assuming they are played at all.

Was I on the right track with keeping them minimum sized?

I faced a Daemon army with 2 minimum sized squads of Flamers just for the Bolt of Mr. T. More expensive than Horrors chosen for the same I believe. Thing is, when a Daemon army with Fiends of Slaanesh and Blood Crushers is bearing down on you, shooting the Horrors behind them with their 4+ invulnerable is the least of my concerns :o

I think with the advent of scary DE lists and other fast armies, a few fire support models will be important even in Daemons. Relying on Fiends to hunt vehicles is ok, but they are much more fun killing infantry.

thing is TZ daemons get owned in assault, so whether they have re-rolls or not isnt that important.. the key with most daemon armies is to have them as throw away units, the aim being to smash the opponents lines early so they have less firepower shooting your dangerous stuff.. small units (no more than 8) work best as they are expendable (as much as anything is)

a unit of flamers is a must, those things are harsh

Right horrors get owned in assault. Hence keeping them small. Horrors provide VALUABLE anti tank for an army that doesn't have lots in the actual way of anti tank barring assaulting it. Fast vehicles can be a nightmare for lists without some kind of ranged attack.

Oops read GC08's wrong. We are in agreement : )

I like mine in units of 9. I run a Khorne-Tzeentch army, with Tzeentch usually in the first wave to lay down suppresive fire and to carry an icon or two. They tend to take a lot of fire, so I have found that 9 is a good number. Plus, when they eventually get assaulted, they can tar pit for a turn while reinforcements charge in. Plus, knocking 9 horrors off an objective takes a bit of work. Finally, those pesky AV 10 fast vehicles can be slowed down by 27 S 4 warpfire shots. (My composition is 9 horrors with Bolt and Icon, with one having the Changeling upgrade.)

But I can see the value of 5-horror units with Bolt spam to lay down some needed anti-tank firepower.
