SA regionals- Heat 1

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, so - quick background.

SA is split into a few Provinces, one of the bigger ones where i'm from has their first regional heats (before the lead up to the Nationals towards the end of the year).

Its 6 games, 1650. Some of you may remember that my performance in the Nationals last year was a bit disappointing.

So, I had to rethink. After weeks of troubling and toiling and playtesting, I decided on the night before to try something completely different.

This is what I went for:

Mephy

Libby - Rage/Fear

Corbs

8 RAS - MG, Fist

Rhino

10 RAS - 2MG, Fist

5 RAS - MG, PW

Razor - TLPG/LC

8 DC - 2 PF, 1PW

Rhino

2 Attk Bk - MM

2 Attk Bk- MM

2 Attk Bk- MM

After day one I am 3 for 3 :)

Tomorrow however will be VERY tough with me likely to come up against my TWO IG nemeses.

The one list is so hardcore that I will need to get first turn to have a chance of winning ;)

Some of the other peeps in the top 10 at the moment are Chaos, Eldar, Nids and Pups.

I'll get some pics and a vid up soon !

Check here soon!

Hey guys! I'll try get the BatReps up asap !

Just a few comments about the list.

The libby actually goes withe the 8man RAS in the Rhino with Corbs. This actually winds up making a really good fighty unit. Nowhere near a "deathstar" but it definitely puts it out.

The thinking behind this was a recent change of heart i've had with the DC.

I was speaking to mate who kept telling me I should field DC (hes a chaos player) and i was saying, nah, i cant afford the chaplain and without the Chaplain I dont really see the point of the DC, cause they're just like Khorne Zerks...with FNP. This got me thinking that - holy crap- theyre like Zerks (but cheaper) with FNP.

DC dont really need a Chaplain. A Chaplain makes them AWESOME, but theyre so damn hot by themselves. With the bikers I have, its easier to intercept any fast units wanting to lure/kite them and with the rhino its even easier to guard them.

This way I get three really dangerous close combat units.

Its a LOT less shooty than I'm used to - but the prevalence of melta usually allows for me to take care of the vehicles and engage the units. The real test will be tomorrow though. I'm not expecting to do as well as today, but i'm gonna fight tooth and nail for it.

Will have to see what happens.

In the meanwhile, heres a vid of the scout hall where we are playing.

46 Contestants this time round.

Looking like an interesting list - good luck and I'll look forward to the bat reps...

(maybe you could put some of the lists you discarded up as well? - a post-engagement consideration of if any of them might have done better in certain match-ups?)

Heres a link to what I was considering initially -> Here

Either of those lists would have done as well if not better against the eldar opponents. However, against the Wolf player with the 2 wolf lords on thunder wolves I would have struggled.

Game 1 - Annihilation - Pitched Battle

Opponent - Eldar

Farseer- Bling, Jetbike

5 Warlocks - Enhance, 4xFlmrthingy, Jetbike

Farseer- Bling

9 Banshees (exarch has bling)

Serpent

5 Dragons

6 Jetbikes- 2 Cannons

6 Jetbikes- 2 Cannons

10 Avengers (exarch has bling)

Falcon - Bling

I won the roll off and opted to go first.

heres the board - >

and what my movement looked like after first turn ->

As you can see the army is quite fast.

I got REALLY lucky with the falcon and managed to blow it up with a lascannon, killing 3 firedragons and also breaking them, forcing them off table.

I also took out the serp in the first turn.

To be honest, I think I was quite lucky with this draw, it really, it wasnt a tough or challenging game.

The guy I played against is a decent player and no pushover, and a great guy, but the list wasnt particularly scary against what I had and there was little he could do with me on him so quickly.

I may have my opinion skewed since i took out the mobility and tank hunting so quickly.

He tried to go for KPs where he could and lure me out, but in the end, it was just systematic.

One thing I found was how nice it was to have two hoods on the table!!

Once the farseers were destroyed my Fear libby started breaking guardian bikers everywhere.

I moved mephy (just walked) in the first turn into some bushes- and actually forgot about him for two turns. Like...i forgot i had the model on the table.

Heres a pick of him enjoying the shade ->

I managed to wipe my opponent off the board by the end of the 4th turn.

Seems awfully risky however. its not hard to pop two rhinos and leave a big chunck of your units without any mobility. And with the death company rage rules , its a very expensive unit running wild in your deployment zone.

Love the Picture of Mephistion enjoying the shade.

Even the lord of Death needs a break sometimes.

Yes! You understand!

I know DC can be a huge points sink if one isn't careful, but if you keep them cheap and small they are worth every single point.

Glad it's going well! Cheers on the 1st day, looking forward to the reports from the 2nd! And I keep hiding Mephiston out of line of sight behind vehicles, and once forgot about him because he hid behind an immobilized LR. I wondered why my enemy didn't go after the LR... because he didn't forget Mephiston was there, just me!

I cant belive its that time again already!!!

Good first game, getting that fire squad off the table is a big bonus, and im glad to see you managed to wreck face without Meph (hes such a lazy sod sometimes...)

Do it good, do it fast do it THE BA WAY!!!!!!

Death Company were exceptional.

I've had a complete change of heart with them. As said above- if you play a chappy or want a chappy, then no hassles all good. But if you dont.....then no hassles all good.

DC with a bunch of special weapons WS5, FC, base 2 attacks and FNP are just crazy good for 20pnts a model.

Rage was not an issue for me at any point. The rhino was either where it needed to be when it blew up or the models were in charge range of what they needed to charge.
