My Honoured Lord C'yria

At last my ship have reached orbit around Bedrock, the fifth world of this forsaken system.

We were somewhat delayed in our departure from Rynn's World, due to the unfortunate loss of our Navigator to some vile disease of that planet. I suspect he contracted the illness from one of the hangar personnel, and to ensure maximum efficiency I commanded a purge of the infected workers before leaving the planet.

Luckily the process of acquiring a replacement was quite speedy as I was abel to request one from a Navy ship that happened to be taking on supplies at the time.

Surely the Emperor approves of our endeavour!

The sergeant of the Crimson Fists retinue that I brought from Rynn's World have informed me that the last contact his chapter had with the subject of this investigation was at 3251751.M41 [apparently the Crimson Fists keep very detailed records], when the two chapters cooperated during one of the numerous crusades launched against the xenos of Charadon.

When I pursued the matter the sergeant insisted that he would not stain the honour of his own and another chapter by speaking ill of them to a non-Astartes.

I believes that this statement speaks for itself.

When arriving at Bedrock, I was initially surprised with the number of commercial crafts in the system.

The records I have seen prior to this investigation all implied that Bedrock was abandoned around 900.M41 when the cost of importing foodstuff and equipment began to exceed the tithes exacted from the planet.

However, it seems that while the mighty Imperium turned its gaze from Bedrock, the Rouge Traders took advantage.

I suggest an investigation to determine the course of events that led to this situation be prepared. If value is to be had from this planet the Imperium is due its share.

But that would be the objective of a different undertaking than our own.

Another, and far more intriguing, thing I noticed upon entering the system, was a battered Accatran-pattern Forge Ship hanging in low-orbit. Though I hailed the ship several times there was no reply and if it weren't for the fact that pic-scans revealed several hundred servitors performing maintenance on the vessel I would have thought it to be deserted.

As it was I elected to approach the ancient starship in an effort to inquire into what interest the Adeptus Mechanicus might have in the area, but we were forced to rapidly withdraw when autotargeters locked unto the signature of our ship.

I am determined to get to the bottom of this affair as quickly and efficiently as humanly possible, but for the time being I have chosen to let sleeping lions lie and turn my attention to the planet and deal with the Mechanicus later. After all, even with a squad of Space Marines in support, I hardly have the resources to board a well defended forge ship.

In two standard hours we will have docked at one of the subterranean spaceports of Bedrock and I will commence my investigation proper by meeting with Chief Director Jakobus, who run the largest mining colony on the planet. If all goes well he will volunteer to arrange an audience with the Astartes. I doubt it though, so far it has been impossible to establish any sort of contact with the Foe Eaters.

No matter, he will establish a contact wether he wants to or not. The Emperor wills it.

I will report to you again after my meeting with Jakobus, hopefully he will also be able to tell me of the Mechanicus ship. Otherwise I will have to contact Accatran directly, something that will undoubtedly complicate things.

As always I remain your obedient servant

- Abram Rex

The domination of the Imperial costmetics market by the Rouge Traders is one of the unexplored aspects of the 41st millenium. I salute your innovation in exploring it.

Also, Bedrock has inspired me to commission a theme song for your Chapter:

Eaters, meet the Foe Eaters,

They're a modern bunch of Space Marines

From the world of Bedrock

They fight to save the human beings

Let's ride, with the Chapter in their Thunderhawks

We'll fly through

Their orbital spacedocks

When you're with the Foe Eaters

You'll have an utterly terrifying and probably traumatizing time

I think it needs some work, but there's hope for it.

:)

More seriously, this isn't an uninteresting start. Keep at it.

Why thank you for your comments, Octa.

You're gonna have to tell me what melody goes with that theme song, I would love being able to play it to my opponents before each game :D

Personally I love Rouge Traders and the subject of trade-politics in the 40K galaxy, and after typing out the first draft of my DYI chapter, I realized that I actually cared more about the home-system than about the Astartes... Figured this was a good way to get that creative urge off my back, while doing an in-universe description of my chapter.

I hope I won't be the only one enjoying it, and I'm very much open to criticism!

After all, I do want to make an IA article about the Foe Eaters once I'm done with this little side-project :)

Perhaps I'll end up doing it the same time, but I also finally got an idea for a traitor warband... ah, decisions!

Cheers

I'm sensing a cultural gap here. :)

It is. That said, it's spelled Rogue. Rouge is a red cosmetics powder/French for red. :)

Both could be interesting, and it seems likely you'd do either one pretty well. I honestly like what you've got so far, though it's a little short on context. I'd recommend doing an IA first - ITs often devolve into "and then they turned to Chaos" which is a little repetitive after the first few.

My God, that's hilarious!

I haven't seen Flintstones in years and I had totally forgotten that they live in Bedrock!

Actually I don't mind at all. I think 'Bedrock' is a great name (and I feel it fits very well with the concept I have in mind), and the fact that I can sing that song to people before games brings a smile to my lips!

Sometimes you need something to break up all that GrimDark; this is my new something

That however is embarrassing... I usually was the one to point out that mistake on my friends' D&D character-sheets, back in the days, so I'm not happy about falling in to the same trap.

I can't even claim it was a typo, since I repeated my mistake in my second post :P

Thank you once again, Octa.

And also thanks to you Shiny One (how's your AI?)!

I think I will be starting out with AI:Foe Eaters (who are at least as loyal as your next chapter of astartes), during the next month or so.

It will probably be a long running project, as next term starts tomorrow and I am also quite busy with a theatre-project that wont finish until January 2012.

I hope I'll have the next installment of the Inimicus Perussi Investigation (no idea if that's actual latin...) up before weekend, but I don't know quite how much time I'll be able to dedicate to it.

That said, this is recreative writing so I will most likely find some time to do it, during the week :)

Cheers all, and please do comment or make suggestions if you like (or if there is something you don't like)!

Press it three times, to really rub it in.

What gets me is that there's something in the software that's supposed to prevent this. I had to post the most recent version of the Octaguide very slowly because of it. V. strange.

I look forward to seeing what comes of this. :P
